As I've said before, the server browser is a massive pile of fail - You can't sort by anything ascending / descending, all just a big mess and couple that with the slow refresh times it's useless.

Now, then you can use the fantastic "Play Now" which constantly throws me in games based on highest pings I'm starting to believe - Israel, America etc. and the games are lagging like hell.

Starting to get mighty sick of getting thrown in laggy servers by it, just now I almost snapped when I snuck up behind a sniper and his back filled my entire screen, I press the "Knife" button

and he slashes ... Nothing, the sniper turns around and shoot me - That crap will make a ****ing Buddhist swear and scream at the top of his lungs.

So yes, the game is fantastic the 3/10 times I'm put on a server that is actually reach but the rest of the time it's a frustrating experience.

Please god, tell me they are fixing the server browser for the retail release ... please.

Apparently it's fixed, in the mean time go to: C:\Users\<user>\Documents\BFBC2Beta\GameSettings.ini

Then look for: "FavoriteGames=" and add the first line of your fave host. For example - "FavoriteGames=Multiplay.co.uk;KillerCreation.co.uk". Your Favorite Games tab will now be filled with those servers. :)

Seemed ok for me. Theres the delay while knife swinging animation goes and after that its always hit. You just have to time it.

i have to say that i was pretty dissapointed in the beta..way to many issues to even make it the least bit enjoyable..i went ahead an canceled my gamestop order but still may pick it up on steam later..that is if they get all the kinks ironed out...right now i simply can't see investing money in something this bad

Yes. That's a given.

The point of the beta is to find bugs and fix them. And to improve on the game based on feedback from the community. I'm sure the retail version will be well-polished. Personally, I have a couple of complaints myself but I'm confident in DICE and EA. I'm not trying to convince you to pre-order it or anything - definitely not my intention. I'm simply trying to point out that the beta does not represent the quality of the retail version.

I hope your not the kind of person who plays a BETA of a game and automatically doesnt like the game because of the BETA. Thats the point of the BETA, is too get a lot of feedback. Since BF2 and how long it took them to fix that, I know DICE will/is paying attention this time around. Just relax. its a BETA for a reason.

I dont know if you realized it but you did play a BETA of the game that was 6 weeks old but it was the best stable release they had. Better then releasing something new that was buggier then hell. This way people would complain a LOT more.

So far, ive been in servers that havent been laggy. Out of all the servers I joined about 10% were bad, and ive joined a LOT of servers. So relax, its a BETA and give it a chance. You dont have to pre order it, but when the game comes out and its better then everyone expected including you and you go to buy it and dont get the limited edition, well youll know who to blame. The LE might not be important to you, but ill gladly take 7 free unlocks for being a loyal/pre order for free, instead of paying $50 and getting no respect. Im proud to be a PC Gamer when a company like DICE notices you and says "reserve now and not only do you get the LE for free, your not paying $60 like consoles" i know the $50 has nothing to do with pre ordering it or not, thats normal PC game price, but the fact that its $50 and NO fee for limited edition is what sold me on pre ordering it. I got it through steam for the BETA and everything else.

So far the bad things I've experienced:

- chat spammers

- team griefers

Spam is one thing, I can mostly ignore it, but in the last game I played there was some jackass that was using mines to blow up the objectives. What do people get out of doing that sort of thing? We had really good even teams going until this person showed up. That kind of stuff really irritates me.

It would be nice if EA could somehow track these people down and ban their ips from connecting to any game servers once the game goes live. That would be justice. Hard code their ips into a black list or something.

You just got a +1 sir.

That's the problem with the gaming market today; critical users and developers misusing a tag. Back in the old days, developers could release a demo labelled as just that, a demo. A test product to demonstrate the game and entice users to possibly buy this product. Any fixes would be made for retail and sometimes they'd even leave the games alone and wait for feedback in the retail version. Today, that dog just ain't gonna hunt - Not only is the market really fierce but users are extremely critical, judgmental and not very supportive. So a simple demo with a few problems will get absolutely slammed and not only that, today it's easier for everyone to get their opinions across through official forums and channels.

So what does developers do? They label their products as "Beta" which is, basically, an excuse. Not that I blame them, I'd do the same but it is just an excuse to the user-base that you shouldn't be too judgmental or critical because it's a Beta ... Only problem is; everyone is using that tag now! It's losing its edge and the real meaning of the word.

Not only that, many developers aren't always listening to feedback or fix a sufficient amount of bugs before the game is due to release so even the retail product can be plagued by issues present in the Beta - So in my world, the Beta tag is just a hollow tag that doesn't carry much meaning and as an excuse it's getting quite tame.

With that said, I will always give developers the benefit of the doubt but slapping "Beta" on everything, demos or whatnot is really making the word lose its punch. The BC2 "Beta" is just a demo because DICE are basically doing sod all for updates during the "beta" testing period - No fixes of issues plaguing a lot of users despite claiming to have it fixed in retail, that doesn't say Beta to me honestly, that just says Demo. Beta testing a completely out of date build from what the developers have is not really Beta testing.

I'm probably the only one sick of everyone hiding behind a Beta tag and not taking it seriously ...

If you mean attacking team blowing up objectives with c4 instead of arming them, then as annoying it may be its perfectly valid technique. If you meant your own teammates blowing up own objectives... Well, not much you can do about it, but still - not worth getting all mad.

Great Wall of text

You got a +1 rep for that one (Y) fully agree with you.

Also on the server browser, you know if I remember correctly DICE has never had the best of server browsers. I remember using The All-Seeing Eye back in the day because it was so horrible.

How bad is the server browser? Please tell me it at least shows the ping in ms format. I almost purchased this over the weekend, but still a bit hesitant. Surprisingly still having fun with ETQW but there just aren't many servers out there for it.

Mine doesnt even show ping. I have always loathed the server browser in every bf game though, just because its so incredibly slow and unresponsive. They have said the browser in the beta is quite unfinished though.

Threw together a quick gameplay video yesterday, mostly just as a test. Hoping to make another one of much better quality and actually spend more than 5 mins editing it

And at all this beta crap. It IS a beta people, its an old build and its mostly to test their servers. If you have ever played DICE games at launch you know their servers are a huge mess (*cough BF 1943 *cough)

Would you guys rather have had all the crazy lag from the beta release day on the final game?

I have had it show the ping sometimes, but then 99% of the time it does not show anything. Also there is no sort options or anything, there is a very limited filter (punkbuster, password, full, empty) and thats it.

I was on a defending team and the guy was on my team using the mines to destroy the objectives. Why shouldn't I get mad? I'm supposed to not care when someone ruins a game that was pretty decently balanced and everyone in it was having fun?

I'm running Windows 7 and I only ever get ping when I run the launcher as administrator, are you? I really hope they fix that in retail.

    • I hear you on browser password manager, in my case I have two Google profiles, one was created when Google decided to grandfather us out of Workspace for Domains (with the replacement being too expensive for 25 users) resulting in my domain email address no longer being able to be registered to a new Workspace I created (for myself and another co-owner) so I could use Takeout and sync over some stuff to the new Workspace. Then I have my personal Google profile which I could be logged into on my desktop or Mobile, so I am saving passwords on one or the other, and when an URL changes another password for the same service gets added, it basically ends up being a giant mess. Unless I missed something is there a local decent password manager that can override the browser password managers for Chrome, Edge, Firefox (profiles) so that there is only one vault, and does that also support Passkeys (which to me are still confusing because sometimes it will ask for a Passkey on a phone I am no longer using!) Microsofts implementation of Passkeys is the worst!
    • It's utterly baffling that we have no idea when we'll get new features even well after they've been released. Why Microsoft thinks this is a good rollout strategy is beyond me.
    • If it makes anybody happy, others will need to be bitter about it. (apologies to Yogi Berra)
    • I owned a lot of Soundblaster cards over the years all the way back to the ISA slot era. I use a Soundblaster X3 external now because I'm able to run it through a KVM and have it follow the machine I happen to be using. It drives a set of JBL 305 powered monitors wonderfully. I'm not gaming or doing home theater through it, so rear channels aren't a consideration for me, though it does have side / rear / sub outputs.
    • I disagree that using browser based password managers is a bad idea, your passwords are encrypted by the OS password, but they also be synchronized to make them helpful. I would also use a password manager extension that supports MFA TOTP and Passkeys to manage the account that synchronizes the data. Ente is 100% free and allows you to vault important information, has password vault support, and supports 2FA TOTP support, I just don’t believe, it has a browser extension.
