EA have been doing this for some time and since DICE are an EA owned studio I don't think they have a say in the matter. Like it or leave and we'll find someone to replace you who doesn't mind. But I agree it's a joke. What really gets my goat is that people are so f-ing casual about it.

I'm calling it now BF3: "Rank 1-50! £10" on day one. ;)

Well if 3 of your friends bought it new and you bought it second hand. You're coughing up for the maps. :(

Oh man I though EA was just DICE's publishing partner and I totally forgot they fully acquired them back in 2006. (Just googled it).

Great, DICE just went down more notches in my book then. :p

Then yeah my view changes every so slightly.

Edit - FTR, I did know they were in cahoots, I just thought EA owned a large share and did not own the entire studio as they do. But the cobwebs in my brain are getting rattled a bit and I think I recall me flipping out at least once when this was announced, even saying Mirrors Edge was going to be a huge flop because of it.

What the hell, I didn't even know they were going to include Hardcore mode

My monitor just got covered in jizz.

The game-mode for real men (Y)

I played on a hardcore server in the PC beta. It was... fun. You can't use any unlocks; however, that could've been a restriction unique to the server I played on.

The interview doesn't say there won't be day one paid DLC either?

I think it's an interpretation question and VG just went with the most drama-hyped one.

PB: One thing that's also very interesting is how we see our customers. We see the game as the first step to a longer experience. We have an in-game store where you get free content or you can buy new content to the game, so it's a very integral part of the game that we will have a long post-launch campaign. I think people will be thrilled to see what's in that already. On day one, you will get some really cool stuff.

By the way:

@Cuban_legend Yes, many audio files in the Beta were compressed incorrectly resulting in a unnecessarily large CPU hit

I guess we can expect much better performance in the retail version. (Y)

The hardcore servers were .ini files which had been edited by the hosts. They weren't the proper hardcore mode. You'll see improvements at retail. :)

I'm considering picking this up, but I've heard from some people that it sucks while from others it's great. One comment I got was that there's too much info on the screen at once and it gets confusing.

Anyone else like this? If it gets so much stuff on screen that it looks like WoW then I won't be buying it. Can't stand too many buttons.

Probably some fanatic Apple user who think there's too much "info on screen", looks like every other shooter out there with a basic HUD

and some basic map information. You can even remove the HUD and crosshair by playing Hardcore mode if that bothers you too much.

Hm. It was just another gamer who probably plays a wider variety of games than myself. Still if it isn't too bad I'll get it. I'm trading in some 360 games soon so the credit can go to that.

(This is a direct result of the RRoD, not bothering with repair cause I don't use it enough to warrant the cost)

Oh, I see.

I thought it was just unranked servers that didn't allow unlocks?

I guess so. I normally play on ranked servers.

Wouldn't make sense not being able to use your unlocks in Hardcore.

I guess you're right. For now, the pseudo-hardcore servers (in the PC beta) are more fun than regular servers.

They really need to make HC mode built into the game and not a server configuration modification, it simply doesn't work properly.

As for day one stuff before it was pointing out most the stuff you get in limited edition/beta the Thompson, 1911, armour and dart gun or whatever it was I imagine.

Has there been any word on ranks/unlocks transferring to retail game what will and won't make it will they restrict your rank and current points and things or what ?

I'm seriously thinking of canceling my pre-order. It's not a bad game just... after playing the PS3 and PC Beta the game somehow feels empty and lifeless in it's on way for me. Yeah there is much going on but somehow that's not cutting it for me... also most of the time I had a hard time following what was happening on the screen because usually my team ran around like chickens :p and the bright maps really didn't make it easier with spotting enemies  I think I gonna wait for BF3^^

    • On xiaomi hyperos there's also an option to disable google assistant. I've got everything disabled. Only thing I do have installed is a web wrapped for duck.ai which claims to let you use various AIs anonymously
    • I need to understand the rationale of not shipping all of these K2 improvements in a single update/release. It's giving "we will fix Windows 11 but no commitments". It seems to me that they just announce these improvements just to appease the community.
    • The term "RTM" is long gone starting with Windows 10. Every current release is a GA build. This is the result of MS making Windows as a Service (WaaS).
    • Looks like no official TBW rating, which should be a required listing in my opinion for sites like Amazon (hell, put it on the box too.)
