OpenLogic have launched a Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A) Open Source Audit Service, which uses the company's OSS Deep Discovery technology to audit a companies software assets previous to a merger or acquisition.

As part of the acquisition process, a bidding company would require a full catalogue of licenses, liabilities and limitations that are incorporated in the code that makes up a target company's assets. OpenLogic's new service aims to simplify that process by analysing the code directly and producing a suitable full audit for those companies.

OpenLogic have previously open sourced OSS Discovery, which can scan and identify open source projects used in binary code. Kim Weins, OpenLogic's senior VP of marketing, told The H that OpenLogic's OSS Deep Discovery tool deals with source code and is capable of finding open source "even when it has been modified, package names are changes, headers are removed, license files are deleted or the code is edited".
