[Official] ArmA 2 : Operation Arrowhead (PC), 2010

Recommended Posts

i didnt miss the point i just doubt they can change core aspects of the game (which they never could for the BF2 engine) to improve it for pvp an example being the ability to navigate though buildings, if you cant quickly navigate a building you cant CQC

You did just miss the point

They want to add PvP to the game, that's it - They want to do it by creating consistency and creating a solid foundation, that is by getting it under a single banner that is Project Reality,

that is bringing over the community and establish some strict guidelines like it was done in Battlefield 2. ArmA II / OA Desperately needs it as it's impossible to hop online and find a player-vs-player match.

The point of PR is not to change the core of anything, it's still to have large scale warfare as the game is designed for, not to turn it into Counter-strike.

Most people are craving for proper, realistic PvP environments in this game and want some red string going through it all to create a streamlined experience, BSS is the studio to do it, for sure.

And actually, you can do proper CQB combat in this game if you know how - Most amateurs just get stuck because they don't lower their weapon etc. but that's unrelated to the subject.

Errrrr Houston, we got a demo!

Placebo informed us about the release of the Arma 2: Operation Arrowhead Demo on the BI forums.

We are still in the process of uploading the demo to our servers, until thats ready you can use one of the listed mirrors from the downloadpage.

Quote :

This 3GB demo thrusts you straight into the unique gameplay featured in the full version of Arma 2: Operation Arrowhead; it showcases the realistic sandbox environment, offers multiplayer gameplay, and gives you a peek at the vast array of vehicles, weapons, units at your disposal. The demo offers a massive amount of highly detailed content, giving you a sharp flavour of the epic new environment (modelled on real-world data), a full taste of the mission editor, and a real appetite to experience the most authentic mil-sim available: war without the training wheels.

Arma 2: Operation Arrowhead's demo includes:

* Singleplayer mission "Coltan Blues" from the main campaign

* Singleplayer scenarios "Benchmark" and "Little Bird"

* 3 Boot Camp scenarios (Basic, Driving and Helicopter tutorials)

* Multiplayer missions "Hike In The Hills" and "One Shot One Kill"

* multiplayer template "Team Deathmatch"

* Mission Editor with save/load option

Bohemia Interactive CEO, Marek Spanel, described the demo as tantamount to a game in its own right: "This demo is huge. Arma 2: Operation Arrowhead is not a simple expansion - it's a massive extension of a living world with a passionate fan community. Our goal is to offer the chance to experience as much of the new and unique features as possible. To be honest, we believe that there is more fun to be had in this demo than in some full games; the editor alone enables a user to create hours of custom content."

Set in the new, visually attractive environment of rugged Central Asia, Arma 2: Operation Arrowhead offers a realistic combat simulation experience in a modern day setting with unprecedented freedom of movement, actions and tactics. Players have the opportunity to enlist into various roles within the US Army, from basic infantryman through to special operative, to pilots and tank crew equipped with hi-end military equipment, such as thermal imaging and directly controlled UAVs, in this new instalment in the award winning line of military simulators for PC from Bohemia Interactive.

You obviously missed the point entirely, the PR team are trying to built proper PvP combat into the game and create some competitive balance. The online part of the game right now

is in a dreadful state - Servers are using a lottery of addons, some crappy private built missions and when you exclude all the servers out-of-date, using private addons, too laggy etc.

you have about 3-4 crappy Domination servers based on again, random addons! There is NO consistency in the online play of things.

Last night around 20:00 I wanted to play online, I found 1 server that was running ACE2, wasn't empty, had a ping below 200 and wasn't using any other addons - 1!!!

I'm genuinely excited about PR and hope it gives the multiplayer part of the game a kick up the B-hind.

Creating yet another mod will just fragment the community even more leaving you even less proper servers to play on :s

and BF2:PR was awesome until 0.5(or so) and then it went downhill with too much realism on an engine not capable of it..

Why not build PR on top of ACE, its already lightyears ahead of PR

Why not build PR on top of ACE, its already lightyears ahead of PR

Because no ArmA II modification was built specifically to cater for the PvP players. ACE was a realism addition that wasn't meant to unify multiplayer whatsoever, it was

just another addon to segregate the players. PR is creating a PvP specific project that will focus on ACE-ish realism features and quality addons in one package and have players only use

one release and be able to get some unified servers up and running. As I said, the community behind Project Reality will also help support the modification and help with the

unification of servers and the settings.

Watch the Project Reality trailer and notice how few units they actually show off, that's because the project is not about adding heaps of units and open up a load of features, it's the bring

the Project Reality mantra to the ArmA II community and any true ArmA players knows that and there's a lot of people backing the project that will help mould the community into shape.

I personally can't wait to open my server browser with only one mod loaded and be able to join some filled servers that aren't that horrible abomination called Domination and actually enjoy

true, mil-sim based Player vs Player combat - The game lacks it severely because the community is, as said, segregated as hell and that won't change if everyone keeps bitching and moaning

when a group of people actually tries to change that.

Old PR was nothing but showing off heaps of units and new maps/levels

The trailer even shows their new fancy units which were horrible in bf:pr and probably will be too in arma:pr

So you had a ******** of content, but not one model actually looked good lol

ACE2 already has a ******** of deluxe content they can use not to mention the realism also already in place - so why not just go on from there instead of starting all over again.

And the arma netcode just isnt suited for CQB PvP compared to bf2/counter strike(as an example), the community is also very small and scattered all over planet earth leaving you a ****ty ping and even ****tier ping on the russian dude youre playing..

Warfare Benny Edition with ACE2 is enough PvP for me AND arma

Seriously, take some time when posting instead of those rageface posts that makes no sense whatsoever.

Project Reality for BF2 was built up over time, constantly having new units and maps added, not to mention features until the Battlefield 2 engine unfortunately reached its breaking point or rather,

its boundary for realism. The ArmA II engine will allow for a much more accurate simulation which the developers are looking for and won't be at the expensive of gameplay as they don't need to tweak it to

hell and back, as the foundation is already there. Also, the mod will start out light and just like PR for BF2, it'll be built up to a grand modification.

And they aren't starting over, they are just adding their own units they have the rights to use and develop however they wish. As much as you want it to be, the mods and units released for the game

are NOT open-source, it's entirely up to the developer how he will distribute and license his own addon, most won't even allow further modification of units so why would the PR team want to 'borrow' such an addon?

They would be dependant on said developer every time they wanted to add something! Not to mention most developers won't even donate to ACE, the ACE team are having to built a great deal on their own because

while ACE might be big, it has a lot of bad vibes within the community.

You are the second to go on about CQB, are you people daft? Player versus player does NOT mean tiny arenas with close quarters battle - It means, oddly enough, player versus player. The game is based around large scale

warfare and that's what the Project Reality mod is going to be, they are making an entire map just for the mod - So why the hell would they need to think about CQB? It's about tank / air warfare. Not to mention it's only the

complete pillocks of the game that are unable to do proper CQB, as it's perfectly doable if you have just the tiniest clue of what you're doing.

Most people whine about getting stuck, yeah that's because they forget to lower their weapon and they bring LMGs and ARs into CQB situations, expecting to be combat effective.

Some people just need a 101 combat lesson in playing this game.

And you must live in a bubble if that's how you see the community, I'd suggest you go read the official forums and check out the clans and the people longing for PvP combat, you'd be surprised.

The project reality mod will do wonders for the realism PvP scene.

British Armed Forces To Be Deployed In Takistan

Bohemia Interactive is pleased to announce the reinforcement of Operation Arrowhead - British Armed Forces are to provide a surge in support of the ongoing coalition deployment in Takistan!

Less than two months after Operation Arrowhead successfully routed the Takistani military regime, NATO coalition forces face a large-scale outbreak of guerilla insurgency. A mechanized force of British troops are about to deploy and embark upon a large-scale counter-insurgency campaign, which will define the future of the coalition presence in Takistan: Operation "Crimson Lance".

The development of the brand new content has demanded engine updates, resulting in unique features and new gameplay options. The fully modelled artillery and mortar strikes and the extension of the engineer class to include new duties - such as vehicle repair and bomb disposal - add a new depth of realism to the most authentic mil-sim available.

"The ongoing enthusiasm and incredible passion of our community continues to inspire and encourage us" said Marek Spanel, Bohemia's CEO, "to that end, we're excited to invite them back to Takistan for another slice of tactical action. This downloadable content is both an answer to their wishes and evidence of our commitment to providing quality post release support and content to the already huge Armaversum."

Arma 2: Operation Arrowhead gets reloaded with new DLC

A brand new faction - Private Military Company - reports in and enlarges the already enormous scope of Arma

Prague, Czech Republic 14th October - Bohemia Interactive, the award winning Czech independent development studio, is pleased to announce a new official expansion of its military simulator titles Arma 2. A new add-on/DLC introducing the Private Military Company and it?s exotic equipment and placed in the story oriented storyline focused on new characters, is scheduled for release exclusively for PC on 24th November 2010.

One year after British and coalition armed forces successfully quelled the insurgent uprising in Takistan, the NATO Green Sea deployment is in the process of a strategic drawdown of its combat troops in the region. Private military contractors shoulder the burden of the increased workload, with competition rising between the multinational organisations for lucrative security contracts. Private Military Company, ION, Inc. (formerly Black Element), successfully bid for a contract - codenamed Black Gauntlet - to provide security for a UN investigation team as they seek to piece together information regarding Takistan's abandoned nuclear weapons programme?

Arma 2: PMC, a new addon for Arma 2: Operation Arrowhead, will feature: New playable faction - Private Military Company

Original singleplayer campaign with strong storyline unfolding across more than ten missions

Fully implemented 2 player co-op mode

New map featuring abandoned wasteland style military weapons test range environment, built upon brand new models and textures

Unique new character models

Exotic new weapons (AA-12, fully modelled XM8 variants)

Detailed new vehicles (Ka-60 'Kasatka', Armed Helicopter UAV, Armoured SUV)

Numerous new engine updgrades, including full Shotgun Ballistics Modelling and in-game Video Playback

Facility OKB-754 was the central hub of Takistan's nuclear weapons programme, which reached it's zennith in late 1999 with the detonation of a 5-10 kton device, before being forcibly abandoned due to sanctions from the international community. The test site was devastated by an underground detonation, which exceeded the expected yield and breached the surface of the ground, distributing a small quantity of radiation around the immediate area; forcing any local activity out of the region.

Operation Black Gauntlet follows a new recruit hired by ION, Inc., the PMC group tasked with providing security for a UN investigation team persuing information pertaining to Takistan's abandoned nuclear weapons programme, as he executes a conflicted contract - spanning the breadth of the volatile nation - from inception to termination.

Set in the visually attractive environment of rugged Central Asia, Arma 2: Private Military Company will add even more depth to the already extensive size of the most realistic combat simulation experience available. Unprecedented freedom of movement, action and tactics - together with hundreds of models and epic sandbox-style maps - creates the most authentic military simulation game: war without the training wheels.

Arma 2: Operation Arrowhead, reinforced by the British Armed Forces, is available now! Check out the project?s homepage www.arma2.com and learn more about Arma 2: Combined Operations; a unique collection of the original Arma 2 and the massive standalone expansion pack, Arma 2: Operation Arrowhead.

Arma 2: Private Military Company will be deployed exclusively for PC on 24th November 2010. It will be available for GBP 7.99/EUR 8.99/USD 9.99

Dwarden, please fix the existing game(s) before adding new content

Thank you

What is broken about the game? O_o

Sure the AI still needs work, but with a game that is as open ended as ArmA2 - there are bound to be a few issues. The game is not broken, however.

That is great and all but what about a proper menu interface, or a mount-interact animation where needed and not the cheap method you did by creating a simple animation that looks like the player is jumping a fence.

Or the legendary fire bug..

Or the ability to have reversed Y axis in airplanes/helis but not when on foot?

Or the vehicles that instantly explode on small bumps or hurt the players inside despite a bump like that wouldnt hurt anyone.

Or the annoying jerky movement, yes its realistic but can it be more fluid?

The towns are horrible in performance despite almost none of the buildings allow for interaction.

This game is riddled with strange **** that has been there since OFP1

Also, since this game has a big modding community it would be nice to have official support for it - then you can leave it up to modders to fix your soon to be decade old errors >_>

new beta version 1.57.75650 was released with fixes for PMC videoplayback feature and several MP related fixes

(this unfortunately makes it non-compatible for MP with 1.56 retail)

* fixed: Stuttering of the PMC campaign videos on some systems

* improved: New implementation of MP ChangeOwner. Previous owner of object must confirm the change before the new server is chosen.

* Patch: Fixed: Locality issues of objects in MP (mainly updates from nonowner errors). Version raised to 1.57 due to MP incompability.

    • NVIDIA announces 35 new AI HPC supercomputers across Europe by Fiza Ali NVIDIA has announced that 35 AI high-performance computing (HPC) supercomputers are planned to open throughout Europe this year. This marks what the company describes as the largest single-year expansion of AI infrastructure in the history of the continent. These new systems, unveiled at ISC High Performance 2026, will be placed at a number of national supercomputing centres, AI factories, and research institutes to provide advanced computing resources to more than three million researchers. Describing AI, NVIDIA founder and CEO Jensen Huang stated, "AI is the new instrument of science, and Europe is building the infrastructure to put it in the hands of millions of researchers." Built on NVIDIA's Blackwell and Hopper architectures, the new systems will support research in climate science, healthcare, clean energy, quantum computing, and other scientific fields. Among the major projects are the Barcelona Supercomputing Center's MareNostrum 5 AI upgrade, BavariaAI's Blue Swan platform in Germany, Italy's IT4LIA AI factory, Germany's HammerHAI project, and Sweden's Mimer AI Factory. The Barcelona Supercomputing Center plans to expand MareNostrum 5 with NVIDIA GB300 NVL72 and GB200 NVL4 systems. In total, the BSC expects to deliver up to 20 exaflops of AI training performance and 33 exaflops of AI inference performance. This increased computational capability will support research efforts related to climate modelling, biotechnology, energy systems, etc. Furthermore, as part of the IT4LIA project, more than 8,000 GPUs, each based on NVIDIA’s GB200 NVL4 architecture, will be used in Italy. This represents one of the largest AI factory initiatives announced to date. Additionally, the Blue Swan platform from BavariaAI will include about 1,000 GPUs to help develop multimodal AI models for use in the medical field, robotics, and various areas of scientific research. NVIDIA also emphasized in the announcement how rapidly growth of accelerated computing usage is taking place within both energy and climate-related research. The company said Siemens Energy uses NVIDIA-powered technologies to significantly accelerate the process of designing and simulating hydrogen-capable gas turbines. Using those same acceleration technologies, Siemens was able to reduce simulation time by up to 77 percent. The company also highlighted several quantum computing initiatives across Europe. CINECA, EuroHPC, and Pasqal are integrating a quantum processing unit into Italy's CINECA supercomputing centre using NVIDIA's CUDA-Q platform. Meanwhile, researchers at Germany's Julich Supercomputing Centre recently simulated a universal 50-qubit quantum computer on the JUPITER supercomputer. The announcement demonstrates Europe's continued commitment to building out its infrastructure supporting AI and supercomputing as governments, research organizations, and technology companies compete to build out their respective computing capacities and secure their positions in advanced scientific research.
    • It's about to become harder to turn off your Samsung TV, thanks to Instagram by Aditya Tiwari Meta announced that its Instagram for TV app has arrived on Samsung TVs in the US as part of its latest expansion, giving users one more way to scroll through Reels. The social media giant often comes under scrutiny for the "addictiveness" of its features, which leads people to spend excessive time on the platform. Interestingly, Instagram boss Adam Mosseri described spending 16 hours on the platform as "problematic use" but not "clinical addiction." Mosseri also compared scrolling on Instagram to binge-watching a show on Netflix. Instagram for TV is now available on Samsung TV models released in 2020 or later. The app is already available on Amazon Fire TV and Google TV in the US, which together account for the majority of connected TV devices. The company said it will test several new features to improve the living room and family experience while using Instagram on the big screen. Watching vertical videos on a big screen isn't something many would be excited about. Probably that's why Meta is testing a dedicated home for horizontal videos. Creators will get the opportunity to design content for TV screens and get more ways to reach audiences, according to Meta. If you found an interesting Reel while doomscrolling on your phone, you'll be able to cast it to your TV. The feature is available for testing on Instagram for TV on Google TV and Amazon Fire TV, and it will also support videos from the Saved tab. Instagram for TV will be testing Channels organized around user interests, across genres such as comedy and sports, as well as content from favorite creators. Moreover, you can watch Stories on your TV. While Instagram is known for short-form videos, it's knocking on more doors to keep the audience hooked. The company said it's exploring new content formats for the big screen, including long-form creator content to cover topics in detail, episodic series to build suspense across multiple episodes, and creator live sessions on TV. All of the new updates put Instagram in competition with established giants like YouTube (and Netflix), which already have a robust presence on the big screen. In recent updates, Instagram added the ability to write an individual caption for each carousel image, manually re-order posts, and a paid version of the app.
    • I know RAM and storage prices are high right now, but I think it would have been better to have 1TB as the base level storage, especially as it's supposed to be for gaming. Plus a 2.5gbe ethernet port rather than only 1gbe.
