Need for Speed World

Well just signed up, and not sure if it mattered or not but I did the sign up from my laptop, so it did the system profiler thing and I did not even put two plus two together while doing it, but I did not make it in the beta this time around. I wonder if I signed up with my gaming comp and it saw I actually had a gaming PC would it have made a difference. Oh well, maybe I will get in eventually.

@ w33zy, that`s odd. I read in one of the emails they sent me or on the site, that they opened the pipeline up so about 10,000 more players could join, so a lot of people who signed up should`ve had their invite and or links by now.

One more day of testing (April, 13, 2010), then we have to wait until the next phase.

It`s been awesome, my second beta test ever. I was one of the first chosen in the USA.

Hopefully anyone else here who applied gets in. :)

Hmm... I'm not even in pending status anymore, it's back to "Apply for the Beta" again. Clicking it just says I already applied.

I got demoted :(

Whoah, I just checked mine. Me too. I was demoted as well lol. What the heck!

edit: But if you click "Apply for beta" it says "

"We have already received your application for the Need for Speed World Beta. If selected, you will receive an e-mail. If you are not selected in the initial Beta group, don't despair, as we will be adding new players throughout the Beta."

applying/downloading/signing up as a type!! cool cool

I was actually in the third beta, and found it quite interesting.

I did a couple of 1v1 races, and an actual pursuit (as the chasee, naturally), and the pursuit was actually *fun*, as you got to use the traffic to try to evade, just like a real Bad Guy would. (No freeway though, darn it.)

However, I found steering with the keyboard quite a pain (though it didn't help that my keyboard is *wireless*; almost certainly a wired keyboard would *handle* better).

The world in NFS: World is an amalgam of those of Most Wanted and Carbon (as the developers themselves have said).

Also, practically everything available in those microtransactions can also be *won* in-game (so as to equalize the payers and the freeplayers; it's the same model used by BattleForge).

I'm waiting eagerly for the next round.

eh, I dunno. Kinda given up hope on racing games.

Have you tried www.iracing.com it's pay to play online only. I can't remember the price right off hand. The group from papyrus, that made the nascar series, made this one. From thier web site:

iRacing is the ultimate place to go racing online. From NASCAR, to IndyCar, to sports cars and Grand Prix racing, iRacing has it all. All you need is a PC, a gaming wheel or game pad and an Internet connection. iRacing organizes all of the racing for you, or you can choose to host your own race. Either way the competition is as real as it gets ? you?ll be racing against motorsports fans who share your passion for racing.

Just been playing this weekends Beta - Still not great IMO

If I run the game all High Settings 1920x1080 its slow and juddery, If I leave the settings exactly the same, except in windowed mode, its smooth ..... ??

Yeah it is also not running all that great for me at 1920x1080 in full screen mode. Weird.

What is funny is apparently I have been in the Beta for awhile now and never knew. I actually think I have may been in since I posted in this thread that I had signed up, but the whole process was so messed up that day I never even got a confirmation that I had signed up. No big deal really, but I definitely would have checked it out much sooner. The only reason I found out I was in was just before I got an email about how I had a free in game boost item or something and to redeem it now.

I only checked it out real, real quick, like 10 minutes tops, but seemed like it could be decent. I did read people saying they were able to use a 360 controller, but it would not show up for me. Also no matter what I did, the option for controls were actually grayed out and never let me even choose them never-mind change them. Finally no matter what I do, everytime I start the game I have to change the graphic options again, they never stick, and I have tried running it as an Administrator.

Definitely play to check it out a bit more in this upcoming week, but what I saw in a very quick SP race it looks like it could indeed be decent.

I do have to say it is a LOT of fun, but it can get stale quick.

Its good for a quick hop on and play for like 30 minutes and log off type a deal, but.. it's not bad for what they expect to be a free game.

I agree. I have been beta testing it since the alpha testing, and its a great game. Like I said before, reminds me a lot like Test Drive Unlimited, but the look of NFS:U. Overall I like it, but again, I can't play for longer than an hour at a time and I get burnt out.

It was a pretty bad experience for me. I experienced a LOT of bugs. Every time I'd start the game, my settings would go default. So I always had to change it back to 1920x1080, Max Details, etc. Then I'd get white graphical glitches when selecting an item in the menu. Also, maybe 40% of the time races would never start. We'd all just be stuck in the lobby, lol. Everyone would say "ALT F4 time". etc... But at least I did my part in submitting the bug reports! Right now it's pretty awful, but I think once everything gets sorted it, it'll actually be a pretty fun game to play. Can't wait till they get full controller support.

definitely. Had some of the same issues. No graphic issues though, other than jerky cars and such caused by lag. Can't wait for full controller support also.. Just can't play a racing game on the PC without using the good ole G27 right?

    • Epic Games says Unreal Engine 6 will help developers "build content faster" using AI models by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe Epic Games is rolling out the latest major update to Unreal Engine 5 today, and at the same time, the company also dropped some information on the next-generation version of the product, Unreal Engine 6. This was already revealed a few weeks ago alongside the new Rocket League upgrade reveal. The company says it is combining the features of Unreal Engine and Unreal Editor for Fortnite to create this new version of its popular media creation tool. On top of creating entire games, the new engine will also focus on letting developers operate large-scale live service titles more easily, whether by shipping content into their own ecosystems or into Fortnite. The use of large language models is also mentioned here, with Epic saying it will be a core part of the engine. "We see LLMs, generative AI models, and tools like Claude and Codex playing a central role in helping you build content faster while maintaining the creative control you need," adds the company. Here is the rundown of what's new about version 6 of Unreal Engine: With all these changes to the programming model, portability upgrades, and generative AI integration, Epic says the new version of the engine will "change a lot about how games are made." The company aims to ship Unreal Engine 6 into early access in late 2027, with a full release planned for 12-18 months later. Epic Games also dropped a lengthy blog post about the new Unreal Engine 5.8 update for game developers over here. The release is focused on delivering better performance, customization, and streamlined workflows for development teams. This will be the final major update for this version of the engine before Epic switches to focus fully on Unreal Engine 6's early access launch.
    • Watch Louis Rossmann's recent experience on YouTube about trying to get a warranty replacement from Samsung. It's crazy.
    • That is the thing, how many of these people don't realise they are using AI? If they use Google Search they have no choice but to use AI. So yes, maybe half of American adults do use and I expect a lot of Uk adults do to, but I bet most of them don't realise it. Myself, i avoid the rubbish.
    • They use FREE AI. They aren't paying for this meme-generating slopware...
    • Gotta' buy that there Rufus guy a beer if I ever meet him. He makes good stuff.
