To my hazy recollection didn't McD's recently change their fries in the UK so that they are just potato? This would make you both correct since njlouch worked there 12 years ago.

1990, from what I can gather. And all they did then was remove the beef flavoring from the frying oil. In other words, not really something that is even relevant here. I think he is just misunderstanding. Maybe he didn't realize that the fries are not raw potatoes. If you go to a store and buy a bag of frozen fries to cook at home, these are not raw potatoes either. I might have wrongly assumed that this was common knowledge. This would fit with his impression that they didn't feel like "regular" potatoes.

Ah my apologies then! Actually I was completely off - this is what I was recalling although it is a little old now - http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/3238882.stm

Now there's a good slogan, "we peel them, slice them, par-fry them, freeze them, put salt on them, maybe add some dextrose depending on the season, then we fry them and that's it"

Like what you believe matters!

I worked in McDonalds? True

I handled the fries? True

The felt like normal sliced potato? False

Proof? I don't need to prove a damned thing. I know the above is 100% true, and I feel no compulsion to justify my words to an argumentative person online.

And they lie? Well I know that their staff do yes. About a number of things from HR issues, through to global wage issues (again from personal experience). Why am I to believe that the higher up you go it gets any better?

Wait, you think they dont feel like normal sliced patatos? thats because they arnt... they are pre cooked... and no diffrent then if you buy a bag of french fries from Orieda or who ever else makes them around the world... They cook them half way then at the restruant they cook them the rest, they would never resemble uncooked patato at the resturant

I have a hard time believeing this. The bread would mold, it's just normal bread, that they toast. No way it would last a year. Not to mention the onions and pickles no way they could have lasted.

Just normal bread? Then I'd assume their apple are just normal apples. Disregard the fact that they do not turn brown despite having been cut up.

(I'm referring to their apple/yogurt/nuts packs btw)

That's a bad comparison as cut up apples have an immediate reaction and bread does not. There really isn't a need to engineer bread that doesn't mold within a year. It's easy to get bread that doesn't mold. Store it somewhere dry. If there isn't much humidity in the air then it won't mold.

Yes, they are normal apples that are disinfected to deal with contamination, and then dipped in an antioxidant. You can do the same at home by dipping them in lemon juice, although I suspect the taste experience will be.. interesting.
