Now hiring driven and motivated writers

Recommended Posts

Update: Thanks to all who applied for the position, we had a very successful turnout this season, and have filled our available positions. Thank you all for your contribution, interest and support.

This Spring, Neowin has several news poster positions available. If you have a passion for writing informative and inspiring news articles, Neowin might be the right place for you.

What are our expectations?

  • Be active: We require no less than 4 articles a week, but the more the better. We pay our writers per original article depending on the comments/hits. This won't replace your full time job, but is an easy way to earn extra cash for an MP3 player or copy of Windows 7.
  • We expect all articles to be originally written, we have strict guidelines for approvals. You must be proficient in English and grammar. We understand no one is perfect, but we do have high standards in order for a post to be approved on the main page.
  • You need to be able to bite your tongue when negative criticism occurs. It happens from time to time, but remember you represent Neowin on and off this site.
  • Although not mandatory, living near a convention/tech hotspot such as LA, Seattle, New York, or Tokyo would be a plus.

We do not assign people to different areas unlike other established news sources. Our writers will write from a variety of different categories.

Here's a general idea of what we cover here at Neowin:

  • Microsoft
  • Apple
  • Linux
  • Gaming
  • Software
  • Hardware
  • Gadgets
  • Mobile Devices
  • Editorials & Reviews
  • And anything else that's related to technology

Think you have what it takes?

You can apply by visiting www.neowin.net/contact/apply and following the instructions.

Please note that due to the volume of applications we receive, we may not be able to reply to you instantly. Please give us at least a week to reply to you.

Thanks and Good luck!

Good luck to all who apply! It's definitely worth having a go at, the experience and knowledge you obtain from it is great, and the staff are some of the nicest people you can work with.

Look forward to reading articles from new faces :)

couldn't have said it better (Y) I enjoyed my time as a news writer!

Hm. Why don't you apply to join the writing team and post more Linux news? :)

Heck, you don't even have to join the team to write up something and submit it. I wrote up an original article a couple of months ago, and it got approved.

I will never join the staff.

  1. I'm not a news writer.
  2. If I or any other that has over 1000 FLOSS daily news entries in their feeds would join the newstaff the non-existant agenda of posting every fart that leaves Redmond would be compromised.

This is indeed a good opportunity. I know there are doubters about the whole Linux thing, but the fact is that it's all about market forces here and what can pull in the readers. I used to write Linux articles (and legal-issue articles) for Neowin, and I routinely got the page-reads needed to earn money. If that's your thing (as it was mine), then I'd say, have a go!

It was a minimum of three articles a week back when I wrote for the site. If Neowin is keen to recruit Linux writers, then maybe it would be good to lower the minimum requirements for those keen on that issue, as the number of things one can write about Linux that will have the audience reach here is, well, not as high as the number of things one can write about Windows, of course!

Just a suggestion. And I'd seriously like to emphasize again that it's cool to be a news writer for Neowin. I am proud of my own work here! :)

I'm proud of my work as a Newsie here on Neowin as well.

Personally I'd love to reapply to do gaming news yet again, but alas I don't think I'd be invited back on staff still :(

Needless to say it's a fun time doing news coverage, and all the little things that go with it (podcasts etc). I highly recommend if you haven't applied for a position yet, do so!

We're still going through all the entries; don't worry, you will receive a response either way but the exact timeframe is yet to be decided :) Thanks for your patience.

Ah, fair enough. Thank you for the response. :)

Still interested, still haven't heard anything. Are the applications being done in order of being received or are they just being grabbed randomly?

We are in the process of getting feedback from all the editors and prioritizing applications. There is a lot of applications to sort through, sorry for the delay, but we are working at a steady pace to ensure we don't rush this process.

Alright, thank you for the update.

Can we still apply?

    • I'm not unblocking my camera for this crapola. Sorry, Google.
    • Ummmm that is what is it supposed to do. Just turn if off in settings if you do not want it analyzing your open tabs. Chrome does the same thing with Gemini. Sarfari will do the samething after Apple's AI and even more so with the release of their 27 versions that is now powered by Googles LLM/ML models. Understanding why it is doing it and how it can help you vs jumping to some conspiracy theroy is a much better approach. As long as it can be turned off, all is good. Yes the default should be off but the a lot of people would never discover these features.
