the audio service is not running

Has anyone seen this ?bug? before? I just booted up my pc and the first thing I noticed was a red x on the audio icon in the system tray, I thought something had gone wrong but when I checked the services they were all on, then I loaded itunes and I got audio. Bit of a weird glitch.

Do you have software-based audio? By this I mean an application on your computer that manages your audio. If so, perhaps Windows took a while to load it. If you have hardware-based audio, which means from your mobo or sound card but with no other software aside from drivers installed, it could have been a minor conflict between OS and hardware. If it fixes itself, it should not be something to be concerned about.

The audio driver hadn't finished initializing so the red x. Windows hadn't polled the driver again so when you started iTunes, Windows checked the driver and everything started working. Nothing particular to worry about.

It happens to me occasionally with my laptop.
