Question, i set my alarm, and have an mp3 i want it to use..... nice and gentle wake up music.... but it reverts back to that sudden loud screaming alarm every time... its fine if i set it for no, and test in a few minutes... but without fail, every morning that it has gone off...... i just about have a heart attack!!!! anyone think of a reason why?

Because it is on your SD card and I am sure the system somehow unmounts it when not in use. I have the same problem with my ringtone.

argh....! thanks for the info...! strange problem tho!!! you would think that if they allowed mp3's as alarms, that it would mebbe mount the sd again before the alarm is set to go off...!!!! lets hope this issue is resolved soon...!

The phone doesn't unmount the sdcard when not in use, that would be completely illogical.

You MIGHT however have the auto USB connection set to htc sync/drive mode.

i agree with you, totally illogical that it would unmount...! I dont have the usb even plugged in, as mentioned, if i test the alarm now, it works fine with the mp3... , but come tomorrow morning, it defaults to the screeching alarm....! even tho, i have also set the basic alarm to a gentler one...! bending my mind at the moment. will wait and see tomorrow.... if i am still cranky, you know it didnt work :)

Has anyone used the Zeitmann alarm app????? looks funky.... just want to know if it works as advertised, before i shell out cash for it...

Come on then, what games does everone have installed?

Abduction - Similar to the iPhone DoodleJump. Work your way up to the top.

Blow Up Lite - Features a model built with wooden sticks, and you get dynamite to blow it up. Points are scored for how far you get it to collapse below a certain threshold. Real time physics, and very impressive. There is also a ragdoll you can strap dynamite too

Jewels - Exactly like bejeweled.

Labyrinth Lite - Exactly like Teeter, but with a lot more levels, as well as a "3D" option

Math Workout - Brain training for the Desire basically, great for killing time

Milky Milky - Connect/rotate the pipes games. Replace water with milk

PapiJump - Very simple and basic version of DoodleJump (no power ups or anything) just platforms

Poke A Mole - Whack the moles game

Robo Defense Free - Addictive tower defense game. Already spent hours on it.

Shoot U! Lite - Catapult zombies to a target area. My favourite game so far, and so frustrating.

Sudoku Free - Keeps the mind active

ThrottleCopter - Stupidly hard. But great fun.

Traffic Jam - Another puzzle, standard get this block out of this area

Tux Rider - Controlling a peguin downhill trying to collect as many fish as you can (yet to get pass the first level, quite hard)

Word Search - Does what it says on the tin

WordUp! - Find/make words out a grid (from 3x3 to 9x9 I think)

Maybe illogical and completely stupid. But it does seem to randomly forget what my ringtone is.

The Alarm Clock is driving me nuts.

Often in the morning i snooze it, then i goes on after 5 mins. Normal because i configured it this way.

But, when i slide down the lockscreen to dismiss the alarm the screen simply unlocks and the alarm keeps beeping and there is no way to turn it off. SO i have to restart the phone.

I do have alarm clock issues. Sometimes it doesn't dismiss even though I moved the slider down. It just goes off again a few minutes later. I put it down to not sliding the slider properly, or hitting the snooze button by accident instead. Why don't they make it similar to the incoming calls slider instead. Slide up to dismiss, slide down to snooze. That way, sliding the phone out of a leather case won't dismiss the alarm by accident.

Just to warn some of you who haven't updated the latest patch from HTC.

My phone got useless.

Can't boot anymore, white screen. (eventually it will boot, to crash a few minutes later)

Did a hard reset, didn't help.

Maybe a special case but think well before update.

Yep, a special case. My Desire updated just fine and actually seems to run better now. The sense UI seems smoother, and things like the contact list, text message apps and email app all seem more responsive than before. All we need now is Android 2.2 and this thing will fly :)

Pretty sure there is an app for that mate. I have seen at least two different people mention something like that across several different boards/forums.

I can recommend Gentle Alarm, it does what it's supposed to and has worked without any problem, there's a trial version if you want to test before buying it although the alarm doesn't ring on Wednesdays so be careful during your tests.

What update is this and how do I get it?

Thanks

I suppose I should chip in my few cents here..

I returned the phone (yes.. I know, that makes my signature incorrect).. its good, its very very good, but having used an iphone for 18 months, I found the keyboard almost impossible to get used to, the battery life very short, and sense a little buggy..

But I wouldn't say not to get one, the battery life's supposed to get better after a couple of weeks (how valid that is i don't know) and I'm sure people could get used to the keyboard over time (I know a few people who have no problems with it, for the record I did go and buy the premium keyboard apps) and I'd imagine HTC will fix the sense bugs..

I was admittedly sad to return it, the keyboard was a bit of a show stopper for me though, but the raw speed of the device was pretty awesome..

You do realise that the keyboard on HTC SenseUI driven devices are similar to iPhone keyboards in size/feedback?

But if you still are not convinced you can install HTC_IME_Mod which goes far beyond what any other phone keyboard could ever imagine to offer iPhone included. You can even skin it with an iPhone skin.

The Desire keyboard (along with the Nexus One) have an impressively responsive keyboard, as fast and accurate as the iphone. Just search any youtube comparison video.

Does anyone know how is integration with Windows Live services on the Desire?

I guess Messenger can be used with some of the 3rd party apps I have seen, is there any way to use Hotmail without downloading email over POP?

I use Windows Live Mail on my PC's which syncs your Inbox over HTTP from what i gather.

Won't really be complete until wave 4 of the Windows Live services when Microsoft make Hotmail/Calendar/Contacts Exchange ActiveSync enabled. Until then you can only get Hotmail over POP3 which is obviously far from ideal.

    • Stopped using Windows as my main workflow. Migrated completed to Linux. Been happier than a clam without a single issue nor windows annoyance. Leaving Windows has shown me the light at the end of the tunnel, or rather I went through the tunnel and I'm already at the light.
    • AirPods Pro 3 are now available for only $179 by Taras Buria Apple's third-gen AirPods Pro 3 introduced a few important upgrades over the previous generation while retaining the old $249 price. Still, that is quite a lot of money for a pair of earbuds, but the good news is that right now, you can save quite a lot of money on them, thanks to a new all-time low price. AirPods Pro 3 retain their classic look and form factor, with changes focused on the inside. These earbuds now come with five sets of foam-silicone tips, which sit much more securely in your ear, making the earbuds a perfect choice for physical activities and workouts. Additionally, new tips provide better passive noise cancellation. Speaking of noise cancellation, ANC is now much better at blocking outside noise, with Apple claiming the AirPods Pro mute up to two times more sound than the AirPods Pro 2. The AirPods Pro 3 also have heart rate sensors for activity tracking during workouts. They also support Live Translation and Hearing Aid mode. As for battery life, you get up to 8 hours on a single charge, with the case adding 20 more. The case supports wireless (Qi or Apple Watch charger) and wired charging over USB Type-C (cable not included). • Everything I have read is that the BBC is still Pro Doctor Who but wants a solid plan before they let anyone else try to do it. Which is fair.
    • I totally agree no one should trust governments AND big tech companies that have near monopolies in certain market segments. The difference is of course citizens at least have some say in government. Yes, requiring Apple to open up Sirsi to other AI backends is in the interest of EU customers and certainly "opens" up the platform a crack. What are you saying? I wish the US would regulate tech companies more here and even break them up in some cases. Granted trusting the government to do it right is a crap shot at best but what is the alternative? To allow a few tech companies to continue to run everything and just print money? It's crazy to me for example that in most of the world 99% of communications go thru Facebook servers via WhatsApp. What kind of dystopian world are we living in?
    • You can.. make sure you have ADB tools on whatever OS you are running, plug your phone into your PC give it approval to talk to the phone then run this command. adb shell pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.android.chrome So long as you leave Android Webview untouched it wont break anything on your Phone to do this. I have been using exclusively Firefox mobile since it was released.
