My Desire has shipped and should be arriving today / tomorrow all been well, woo! :D

third quarter?????!!!!

damn it, should have gone for the Nexus ONE :(

Can you not basically flash a stock Andriod rom on to the Desire that has everything except the Sense UI anyway? would that not been the same as having the Nexus one? From what I have read both phones are almost the same.

I'm sure sooner or later Desire owners will need to rely on home made roms to have the latest version of Andriod, I read HTC are not very good with offering upgrades and such.

One thing that annoys me is, you can't have a photo associated with contacts on your SIM - Then you basically have to manually enter all those contacts into the phone's address book to be able to get a

picture up.

I know it's not the biggest issue to complain about but I like being able to give all my contacts their own picture :p

Why do you have them on your SIM mate? Just stick'em on Google Contacts. Problem solved.

What HTC phone is coming after the Desire which matches the Desire or Nexus in capability, does anyone know?

I'm getting a bit disillusioned with the iPhone 4 now. First the stock issues and now the defects. Does anyone know if I manage to get a Evo 4G, it will work with the carriers in the UK, specifically Three?

The Evo 4G isn't coming to the UK AFAIK. There is talk of a model similar to the EVO 4G or its direct counterpart coming to Europe. But thats all it is at the moment - talk.

I wish Facebook would not update my phone contacts, I've already set my Contact pictures nicely. Is there any way to disable Facebook updates so I can link my contacts to Facebook again?

Hit Menu on the home screen, choose settings, Accounts and Sync, Facebook for HTC Sense, then disable Sync Contacts.

I think this will do what you're after!

Had the same problem mate, I feel for you. What I did was remove the FB account from the Desire compelte (you can find it under the Accounts and Sync page), and then use the bog standard FB widget for all your FB needs.

I managed to get it to use my pictures instead of the Facebook version. In the Phone tab, click on the contact you wish to edit, click on the name and it should bring you to a menu where you can tap on the contact's picture. There you can select either to have the Facebook picture or the Google/Phone picture.

Hope this helps.

I've just realised that my HTC Desire is now showing that it's running out of space, so now I can't update my applications on the market :( . I'm now seriously thinking of rooting my Desire but I'm so afraid about my warranty. In Malaysia, it's very hard to get things repaired so the two year warranty means a lot to me. If I can root my device and if something happens unroot it, that'll be great. So far, I can go around with my PSP not having a warranty as spare parts are in abundance here.

I would highly advise you to wait if you aren't comfortable in rooting your phone. It is a little tricky.

do a lot of you accidentally press the lock button? causing it to unlock in your pocket?

No, never happened to me. Even if it did, I still have the on-screen lock code thingy.

Same here, I got my desire on the 25th and by the 28th I had managed to just about fill the phone memory.

It really is silly how Android has been around all this time yet installing apps to the sd card is something that has only just been officially implemented in 2.2

I know that i'm more than capable of rooting it, this guide here makes it look easy. However I hoped that I could go until Android 2.2 is released as i've just got my desire setup how I want and it will be a right pain to do it all again.

I guess were not likely to get 2.2 any time soon so I might just have to bite the bullet and root it before then.

I've got the link to root the phone, as well as one to unroot it as well. My concern is that HTC can detect it if my phone was rooted previously when I claim my warranty. If they can't detect a rooted phone, then I will not hesitate to root it straight away. Rooting also allows me to install themes, something that interested me in the Android platform in the first place :p .

    • Edifier's popular R1280Ts bookshelf speaker can be a nice upgrade for your PC desktop audio by Sayan Sen Yesterday we covered a very nice discount on Sony's high-resolution SS-CS5M2 speakers, which are currently on sale for just $178. It packs the rather rare super tweeter that offers an additional level of clarity and "airy"-ness which a tweeter cannot provide. It's a passive speaker though which means it will require external amplification, which will cost extra. Let's say though that you have a budget of under $150 but still want a decent-sounding speaker that's active. The Edifier 1280Ts can help in this regard, as the unit is currently at a decent price of $130 (purchase link under the specs table down below). While you will not get deep sub-bass from the 1280Ts, you should get clearer vocals and highs like cymbals than a cheaper satellite-based 2.1 system. Obviously the soundstage and imaging will also improve due to the better reproduction of highs. As mentioned above, the Edifier R1280Ts is active and so does not need a separate amplifier, as it's a powered system with its own amplification. A great thing about this model is that you can add a separate active subwoofer to it too using the "sub out" option, which essentially acts like an LFE. This way, you can add in the missing deep bass. The technical specifications of the Edifier R1280Ts are given in the table below: Specification Value Total Output Power 42W RMS (21W + 21W) Driver Units 4-inch mid-range/bass driver + 0.5-inch silk diaphragm treble driver Frequency Response 52Hz – 20kHz Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR) ≥85dBA Input Sensitivity Line In1: R/L: 500±50mV Line In2: R/L: 700±50mV Inputs Dual RCA inputs Outputs Sub Out port for external subwoofer Get it at the link below: Edifier R1280Ts Powered Bookshelf Speakers - 2.0 Stereo Active Near Field Monitors with Subwoofer Line Out: $129.99 (Sold by Edifier Online Store, Shipped by Amazon US) This Amazon deal is US-specific and not available in other regions unless specified. • Appreciate the focus on UI performance, but this is going the wrong way. Instead of optimizing performance, coding to lower latency, etc. this is just throwing horsepower. This is lazy.
    • I agree, but that's the popular online opinion about them, so I followed it. I do think they have their point, no matter how combative they sound most of the time.
    • M$ can bring whatever the hell it wants, and then guess what's not installed in my Mac.
