As far as I know Dazzla has it now, but as he said, he "wouldn't give it out".

It's quite funny how he was pretty much begging others and asking them to share it but now he's doing the same thing!!!

I don't mean to offend you there, I'm a huge fan of you work. However, that sounded pretty cheap!

Sorry about before peeps, I aint really a stingy git :(

Flyers man, I noticed you've got 192MB ram on your mac. How smoothly does that run OS X?

Actually it runs quite well. On osX is was sluggish as hell, but 10.1 the increase in speed and responsiveness is incredible. I am gonna buy some more ram though, can't run ps really well with only 192 lol :D

Cool, i'm asking as many people as i can about OS X performance (10.1.2) and how much ram they have. I'm getting the Bottom of the range iMac (:( although still amazingly quick, 700MHz G4!!) which only ships with 128 by default, so the options I have are either a 256mb or 512mb SoDimm. The cost of 256mb at Crucial.com is only ?45 but 512mb is ?145 so the difference is massive. So if i get the general opinion that 384 is enough thats what i'll get, but if enough people recommend 512 or higher then I guess i'll have to splash out for the 512mb SoDimm. (640mb total, thats got to be enough.:s:s )

dazzla you do know that you can use regular pc-100 ram in an imac yeah? I dunno if those prices you were quoted were for apple ram or for regular ram (if so its got up ****loads) but yeah, just wanted to make sure you know that so you might as well get 512MB (ty neyo :p) if you want it.

Btw why are you paying for the minute when BT and Freeserve have unlimited plans now?

If anyone wants the objectdock since dazzla can't give it out drop me a line at [email protected] and I'll email it to you.

don't bother posting your email here cos i won't be sending it if you do.

hehe!

the iMac RAM is like the iBook though right?! So-DIMM .. as in (i think) 2.5" ?!

NeYo

ok i consulted with unspec before this and he says that if your talking about the new imac its got 2 types of ram in it and the user replaceable one is the same as the one in the iBook, and the other type is just a regular dimm that you can replace but as usual apple dont recommend it hehe

The new iMac has 2 types of ram, normal PC100 internally (which is changeable but not recommended) the second is SoDimm, which is laptop memory. Here's a link to a page which has standard SoDimms available. Only goes up to 256MB@?50.39, and here is a page showing 512@?148.49. So its a big jump.

I have a 128mb SoDimm lying around so if I could replace the internal Memory with a standard 512mb Dimm that would be ideal. How hard would it be to replace do you reckon? and would it invalidate my warranty?

How much ram have you got in your mac WickedKitten?

The reason I'm still stuck on dialup by the minute is because I'm waiting on NTL to deliver my new cable modem. My old one is bus:(:(

If you want to replace the DIMM RAM in the new iMac you will have to unscrew the base and once you are done re-apply the heat transfer paste. It seems to use part of the chassis as a way to dump heat. Althought it is referred to as a non-replaceable part, you can replace it.

I have no idea if that will void your warranty - my guess would be that it would.

The SODIMM, is damn easy to replace. Just pop out the bottom flap and the SODIMM/Airport spaces are right there. These are intended to be replace by the end user and so will not void your warranty.

As for the ammont of RAM, I have 384MB in my mac, but I'd say get the minimum you can from Apple and see about boosting it up to ~512MB. OS X loves RAM and you'll see an improvement. Plus if you're using Photoshop, RAM is a must :)

Well I am gonna be using photoshop (hopefully OS X native by the time i get my mac, anyone tried the beta?) a lot. So i guess that means I'm gonna need quite a bit of RAM. it comes with 128mb standard ( apple:mad: ) so i'll need a 512mb SoDimm.

like i mentioned above they are around the 135 mark (?) so can anyone recommend a place to buy Ram from in the UK?

Thank you RedMak for activating my account, been trying for ages now to post some stuff hehe..

ok on with the show..... Been working on a "theme" for legal reasons for now, only for personal use... (stilll learning how to theme objectbar and only using notepad... am I a sadist..?)

Needs a lot of work though esp on the menus (I'm never happy with what I see..)

Any suggestions..?

    • It would be surprising if even 3 year old Apple Watches (and not SE models at that) cannot run watchOS 27. Granted, it doesn't mean it would work as well. We'll see.
    • Apple launches new website for parents and a revamped Screen Time experience by Aditya Tiwari At WWDC 2026, Apple announced new parental control features for iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS 27 to keep kids' device usage in check and keep them safe online. As a parent, you'll get access to a simpler setup experience, Ask to Browse, Time Allowances, and a redesigned Screen Time. You'll be able to pick exactly which apps your child can access on their device, choosing from just a few essential apps, a curated set, or the apps you feel are appropriate. There will be an option to gradually add more apps. Ask to Browse is a new feature that requires kids to request permission before visiting a new website in Safari on iPhone, iPad, or Mac. You can also turn on a setting that requires your kid to ask for approval before connecting with an unknown contact via Messages, FaceTime, or the Phone app. You can manage your child's screen time more effectively with Time Allowances that work across categories, including Games, Entertainment, and Social Media. You can set time limits based on your kid's age and get suggestions informed by expert research. Speaking of expert guidance, Apple added that it's working with the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) to adapt its Family Media Plan to create a guide parents can refer to when using Apple products. Moreover, the company has also set up a new dedicated website, where you can find tools, resources, and answers to common questions around parental controls and child safety. Apple also allows parents to set daily schedules to manage screen time, configuring access to different apps at different times of the day and across the week. Overall, the Screen Time section has been revamped and provides a bird's-eye view of your kid's average device usage and most-used apps. "For example, to help protect important family moments, parents can quickly limit access during meals, outdoor play, and other times that deserve full attention. If kids need a little extra time to finish something in an app, parents can also easily extend access," Apple said. Apart from these, Communication Safety has been updated to block gore or violent content when detected in shared images or videos. The feature already blurs nudity in Messages and FaceTime calls, and is enabled by default for users under 18.
    • They already threw the Ultra 1st gen under the bus? It really feels like someone screwed up, and that advanced AI features will only be available on the list above but someone screwed up and said that Watch OS 27 in general will only be available for those models. I think they will pull it back. I did see someone also put a snap shot of their series 9 watch being offered the watch os 27 beta. As the backlash online is already in full swing.
    • Right, Google... because that's who this is going to. Google, the company who's entire business model is geared around ad revenue and your personal data.
    • That is the natural course for regulations. First to protect the consumer. Then to protect the business/industry from upstart competition. There are countless examples across history.
