Driving Forza cars with the Kinect: looks silly, feels great

Impressive... I would like to see one in person...

Even more impressive was the fact that even though I was standing in front of three or four people and photos were being snapped, the Kinect was smart enough to focus only on my movements. Very cool stuff.

(It's tricky to tell just how sensitive the Kinect camera is, but while playing the Your Shape game from UbiSoft on another level I noticed the virtualized, three-dimensional depiction of me included my media badge moving on my chest as I swayed, and the camera could see finely detailed objects such as my sleeves and collar. The tech is certainly impressive, and the way it was able to sense my movements during the Yoga workout in order to give me pointers was amazing.)

the most interesting part there is this part

and the camera could see finely detailed objects such as my sleeves and collar.

That pretty much confirm that kinect has a much higher depth resolution than was speculated in the other thread, and there should be no problems for microsoft to calibrate the camera to recognize sitting people from the chair or sofa by release.

Yea, Kinect looks real interesting to me. I might even get a 360 (oh lordy, a console) if Formula 1 2010 uses Kinect. On the other hand, I do have a g25 connected to my PC but I reckon it would be fun to do some pit stops 'n stuff as well as fisting the air and making rude gestures to other drivers if it supports online play.

Fifa 2011 would also be fun, ya know, taking penalty kicks among other things. To me, Kinect looks like another way to enjoy games. Tried my mates Wii and put it down after 5 mins since it was pretty lame and jumped onto his n64 instead. Besides, the 360 has last.fm support which is pretty cool.

Not a fan of it being an on-rails driving game. By that I mean having the game accelerate and brake for you automatically, so all you have to do is steer. Choosing your braking points, when to accelerate, etc, are all key elements to driving games so they need a way to implement this.

And also, how long am I really going to stand up with my hands out like that pretending to drive... people will get tired very quickly, I'd imagine.

    • What OS is that? It looks a bit like Mac OS but the command line suggests it isn't, either way I like it!
    • Outlook classic is inherently better than new outlook, for a number of reasons. That said, if the only reason people need office is to read email, they should just use thunderbird.
    • Windows 11 is a big thumbs down from me. I used for a period of a few days while it was in insider and windows 10 was the main OS, and realised it wasn't for me. I am still waiting for Windows to be tolerable again, a shame as at one point I was very pro Microsoft.
    • Classic outlook, not only does it have a much fuller feature set, it doesn't include Microsoft attempting to sync my emails from my servers to theirs. If classic outlook is ever removed from office, and the version I paid for in 2021 stops working for some reason, I'll use Thunderbird.
    • Kdenlive 26.04.2 by Razvan Serea Kdenlive is an acronym for KDE Non-Linear Video Editor. It works on GNU/Linux, Windows and BSD. Through the MLT framework, Kdenlive integrates many plugin effects for video and sound processing or creation. Furthermore Kdenlive brings a powerful titling tool, a DVD authoring (menus) solution, and can then be used as a complete studio for video creation. Kdenlive supports all of the formats supported by FFmpeg or libav (such as QuickTime, AVI, WMV, MPEG, and Flash Video, among others), and also supports 4:3 and 16:9 aspect ratios for both PAL, NTSC and various HD standards, including HDV and AVCHD. Video can also be exported to DV devices, or written to a DVD with chapters and a simple menu. Video editing features: Multi-track editing with a timeline and supports an unlimited number of video and audio tracks. A built-in title editor and tools to create, move, crop and delete video clips, audio clips, text clips and image clips. Ability to add custom effects and transitions. A wide range of effects and transitions. Audio signal processing capabilities include normalization, phase and pitch shifting, limiting, volume adjustment, reverb and equalization filters as well as others. Visual effects include options for masking, blue-screen, distortions, rotations, colour tools, blurring, obscuring and others. Configurable keyboard shortcuts and interface layouts. Rendering is done using a separate non-blocking process so it can be stopped, paused and restarted. Kdenlive also provides a script called the Kdenlive Builder Wizard (KBW) that compiles the latest developer version of the software and its main dependencies from source, to allow users to try to test new features and report problems on the bug tracker. Project files are stored in XML format. An archiving feature allows exporting a project among all assets into a single folder or compressed archive.
