Which camera should I buy ?

Recommended Posts

I currently have a Nikon D90 (which I plan on keeping) and I want to "move" to something smaller for everyday shooting. The D90 is a beast but I find it to be a burden sometime to carry around.

Here are some models I found..

Compact Panasonic Lumix ZS7

Compact Panasonic Lumix LX-3

Mini DSLR Panasonic Lumix GF1

edit // the GF1 is probably out of question since I'm keeping the D90. At this price it could literally replace my D90 but I would never do that.

I need something that's portable. Good IQ, good aperture range for DOF. Potent zoom. RAW support. Hesitating between interchangeable lens or not.

Can anyone help me decide ? :)

thanks

you could check out the new Samsung "SLR" cameras.

same size sensor as the regular SLR's, but without the mirror so it's much smaller, and you get interchangeable lenses.

the disadvantage compared to a bridge cam is of course that a bridge cam has everything from wide angle to super zoom all there right at your fingertips. if you want the interchangeable stuff you may as well just use the D90 for the extra quality anyway.

what's the model of the Samsung ?

I'm putting an X on the GF1 for now.. I'm not looking for another 1K$ camera.

It's a shame that the ZS7 has everything I need... apart from RAW, which I want.

HawkMan: Samsung HZ35W?

no the samsung I meant was their new mini SLR's (without mirrors), I'm not sure about the name, I only saw it on a trade show a few weeks back. They kept going on about how the DX sensor size gave it the same quality as a Sensor in a smaller package without the mirror. completely ignoring the fact that the tiny lenses would detract from visual quality but whatever, it's not like they're going to admit their new awesome product isn't all positives :p

the NX10 I believe

    • I'll wait for the root cause analysis. Looks like it's HP, Lenova, and certain configurations that are askew, hardly "all of windows." Time will tell.
    • Loading Topaz Photo AI freezes my system since this update...
    • I had issues with my NVME, it was running really slow (like 2/3 mb bandwidth) ... had to revert via System Restore and all is fine now.
