I suspect this will hurt more than then help:

Lens of Truth: Forza 3 outperforms GT5

Have to say I did notice the drop in FPS and the tearing in my very first race.. and immediately thought "Wait a minute...?"

Not good :(

and yeah, i think the standard cars should be in photomode quality even during races, its not like they already have too many polygons or something.... the premium cars have enough of an advantage already with their damage modelling, cockpit views, extra customization etc etc that pushing down the visual quality of the standard cars during races is just pushing down the whole game... after all, standard cars are the majority and premium cars are the minority...

From the reviews.. the damage isn't even significant (i.e bumpers flying off etc). It's hard to say this but it has to be said; the new NFS HP has a better collision model than GT5. It's true.

anyway apparently the game is freaking sold out everywhere.. I went to a random HMV and got it as a demo disc.

The extent of the damage increases as you level up, reviewers not seeing full scale damage is a correlation to how much time they put into the game.

GT5 update confirmed for Saturday

"We received a lot of demands for having more regulations placed on the online play. We're going to perform an update on the 27th that will include things like max power restrictions and weight restrictions," Yamauchi said. http://www.eurogamer....d-for-saturday

GT5 December 1st patch*not confirmed yet*

It says the patch will unlock (optional) damage for arcade/lower levels, rather than only be available for level 20 and up.

Furthermore, there will be a (small) performance upgrade. They expect more updates before Christmas. http://www.videogame....zember-801633/

Things PD are woking on:

Kazunori Yamauchi: In this release we focused on the features that allow close friends to race together. Online updates are planned of course for leaderboard and matchmaking - [they're] all planned in the process of evolution.http://www.eurogamer....view-interview

Just looked at the lens of truth video.

GT5 looks quite crappy, not sure if it's the settings but the camera looks clunky when following and I know it's small, but in forza when you turn quickly, it leaves like a little tyre mark, gt5 there was nothing.

Looks too arcadey still. Forza 3 is still superior :)

Well I guess GT5 does have some aspects that it is awesome. For an example.. the Smoke effect is amazing.. I really wish Forza had the same smoke effect.

Does anyone know how to change AT to MT?

come back when you have played the game, as a sim, gt wins.

and you shouldn't. they have 400 cars that look good, gt only 200... but the 200 smash the 400 though IMO.

Actually, Forza is over 500 premium now. As far as smashing, I am not seeing it. They do look a bit better though I agree.

I love GT5 so far, but I have to disagree.

Can't believe the screen tearing on that video from Lens of Truth. I've not seen this in my GT5 and I'm looking on a 37" TV. Their setup must be bad imo.

Having played both Forza 3 and GT5 I can see that some visuals are better in Forza 3 but overall game play a and race options are better in GT5.

Yes GT5 has issues just now, and I am disappointed by that. But patches will come.

to be honest, my expectation was that only car enthusiasts should be able to spot the difference between premium and standard... i really wasnt expecting it to have this much of a difference

arent there already freely available tools out there which will automatically increase the number of polygons in a 3d model and smooth it out? at least that way, it would take an expert or someone who has personally seen the car in real life to be able to tell that the shape isnt exactly right or a few styling cues are wrong or some of the finer details are missing... all Polyphony has to do is get someone to have a 360 degree glance through all the standard cars and make sure there are no glitches and stuff...

Is damage not unlocked at earlier levels?

Maybe it is in the GT Life mode or whatever it is called, but I know I quite easily crushed part of my car in arcade not long after I started playing.

And I was around level 10 when I nearly destroyed the front part of an expensive car on the Japanese Highway, and it didn't take long to get through the levels, I would assume if it is locked it is just so you don't destroy the cars when beginning out because you do have to repair the frame of cars after crashing them a lot.

I'm still a little disappointed you cant seem to choose the time of day and weather for courses that have them, as great as the game choosing them is, I would prefer to have it set unless I am missing the options.

And also is there some sort of virtual checklist or something, I'm forgetting what cars I own already and I can't see any sort of marker that says what cars I have already bought?

so how do I switch to manual transmission? I can't seem to find it in the settings.

if it's like the PSP version, just before you hit "start race" via the green checkered flag icon, there is an icon there or should be that says driving options. There you go can do it.

ah thanks, do I have to change it every race once I do it?

Well I finally managed to play it last night (installation took 93 minutes, maybe something wrong with my HDD but meh) and I do like it. Like I said earlier I usually can't stick with racing games for very long at all. Last night I'd start a race, get to first place and just cruise to the end - If I was keeping my PS3 then I'd buy a steering wheel for it without a doubt and end up enjoying it a lot more.

    • Most boring game ever. Repetitive, empty, predictable, and full of cliches. Total waste of time and money, IMO.
    • Mafia: The Old Country expansion Man of Honor announced, brings back Salieri from original by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe During Summer Game Fest, 2K and Hanger 13 brought out a new Mafia: The Old Country trailer, revealing the game's first expansion. Named Man of Honor, this is slated to add two new chapters to the Enzo storyline that the game follows. There is an iconic character returning to the series with this expansion, with players set to run into Ennio Salieri, the future Don of the Salieri crime family. Fans of the original Mafia, or its Definitive Edition remake, may remember that name as one of the biggest characters in the storyline. This expansion is set prior to his rise to being the kingpin in the City of Lost Heaven. "Set in Sicily during the winter of 1905, Enzo Favara has proven himself a reliable soldier of the Torrisi crime family in the months since his initiation," says the studio about the new chapters. "Now, the Don entrusts him and Cesare with a delicate assignment of assisting Ennio Salieri, a man of honor recently released from prison and intent on reclaiming what is his." Working at Salieri's side, players will be heading into fresh environments as they return to the role of Enzo as a high-ranking soldato. The studio also promises brand-new weapons, fresh vehicles, and charms to collect in this expansion. Moreover, the expansion will add new content to the updated Free Ride mode. Alongside new collectibles and locations, this will add more challenges to beat alongside Salieri, which are described as runs that will "test the skills of even the most elite mafiosi." The Mafia: The Old Country Man of Honor story expansion will release on August 14, 2026, across PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5. It will cost $10 for owners of the base game to jump into.

    • Telltale returns with The Wolf Among Us, re-revealing the sequel and a new remaster by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe Telltale Games, the studio known for its episodic games from the 2000s, had a surprise appearance at the Summer Game Fest showcase today. The studio has gone through a collapse, an acquisition, and a revival but has largely gone silent in recent years. Today's sudden announcement was for the popular The Wolf Among Us series, with news about the sequel and a remaster dropping. Set after the events of the 2013-released title, the sequel will bring back Biby Wolf for a new adventure in Fabletown. This town of fairy tale characters is becoming unstable, with Snow White not being able to keep order as before. "When a brutal series of crimes threatens to fracture the fragile balance holding Fabletown together, Bigby Wolf, sheriff of Fabletown, finds himself drawn into a dangerous conspiracy that reaches deep into the city’s criminal underworld," says the studio. "As suspicion spreads across the city and powerful forces work against him, Bigby must uncover the truth and decide what kind of sheriff - and what kind of wolf - he is willing to become." At the same time, Telltale also announced The Wolf Among Us Remastered, bringing back the classic with a fresh coat of paint. This will include all five episodes from the original game plus over an hour of extra content that will offer behind-the-scenes videos, cast interviews, image galleries, and deleted scenes. The remaster will also have updated visuals and improved UI elements and accessibility features, alongside upgrades to the animations, audio, and frame rates. Telltale has been working on this project for almost a decade now, but if the new release schedule holds, fans will be able to jump into The Wolf Among Us 2 sometime in 2027. As for The Wolf Among Us Remastered, this is slated to release during this holiday season.
