Gran Turismo 5 Standard Cars to be Upgraded to Premium

In the latest issue of Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu (via AndriaSang), Kazunori Yamauchi has revealed that [at least some of] GT5's "standard" cars will be upgraded to "premium" models in future updates to the game. This is good news for many fans who may have initially been disappointed their favorite car didn't get the "premium" treatment (with a more detailed 3D model and interior view), though we still don't know, of course, which or how many models will actually be upgraded:

Nevertheless, it's good to get another peek at what's in store, and we're looking forward to more news on the next December update. Thanks to a "random person" for the tip!

Sweet! :D

Cool, but way late. Probably best to incorporate this into GT6.

The game is a month old please elaborate on how this is way late?

PD will offer great after release support, GT5P changed quite a bit.

Late? Admittedly the damage is pretty much done in respect of the reviews etc. But in terms of gamer support this is great in my opinion. Chances are that these models will be transfered into GT6 anyway. Pretty certain he mentioned before that the models in GT5 were beyond what the PS3 could manage and get scaled down during the racing and then obviously increased for the photomode.

I agree it's a good thing, but we have so many other problems with this game that are much more important, I think he should send the developers to concentrate on fixing the game instead of working on some visuals. Just my opinion.

You do know that there are different departments in a game company don't you? :shifty:, go watch the credits cause 3D modelers don't program the game. The game can be visually updated and get performance fixes without sacrifice.

Amazon are selling the GT5 wheel for $99 Larry - http://www.amazon.co...ASIN=B0015HYPOO

Be quick :p

I think I should be getting it. I just told my wife about how that wheel I wanted for Christmas went back down to the price it once was, and she said "well you are done being shopped for" and I said, "well then I am just going to buy it for myself then" and she got all ****y, and said how I always do this and I ruin my gifts and why can't I just wait to see what I am getting. So yeah, I think I will be getting it.

Thanks for the heads up though, much appreciated. (Y)

might as well do them all!

Looks like he is only doing "historic classics" in the standard upgrades:

"Famitsu also asked if plans are in place to redo the game's low fidelity "standard car" models as higher quality "premium car" models. Yamauchi responded in the affirmative. "Among the standard cars are some historical classics, and we plan on remaking them as premium cars. There are currently some cars that have both standard and premium versions. Those are cases where the cars were remade."

Have to agree with you there. I am level 17 and still have not seen an improvement in AI. There are two types of AI, the 3 designated to take first, second and third. The rest are designated to block me and have no physics to worry about. The AI does not promote racing. It promotes moding my car so that I can blow past them and then drive the track all by myself. A good AI is very possible, F1 2010 has a decent AI and makes the racing fun, GT5 AI makes the game frustrating or boring. As for the video, yes sometimes the AI will go around you but most of the time they will smash right into then turn you side ways and keep the gas to the floor pushing me like a snowplow so yes the AI sucks.

Uhh.... no. The AI is really good.

ok i need someones help lol, can someone please lend me either a mazda 787 or the minolota as iv been tryin to do the "like the wind" race for around 3hours now and the best iv come is 2nd by 0.005, if you could lend me one of the cars i would be very greatful! lol my psn is chemaz101

Killa, sorry for the delay in your friend request acceptance. I have been off the console for a bit taking a break. I have gone and put a request back to you. Boy, you canceled your request fast though! lol

Gotcha.

historic classics? hmmmm...If my 180sx/Sil-80 and SS AE86 are included I will be happy. Just have a gut feeling they won't be.

I managed to unlock the long ending movie last night, after doing the Dream Car Championship. I managed to do it with a Suzuki Escudo Dirt Car, which I bought for 1.9 million in the used dealership. :pinch: It was worth it though; it was also able to win the races I couldn't win in my maxed-out Bugatti Veyron over in the GT All Stars championship. Unfortunately, I can't win the Indy race in the Like the Wind championship with it. :( The problem with it on the oval tracks is that while it's faster through the corners than all the other cars, it can only reach 200MPH at most of its own accord, so you have to constantly draft to keep up on the straights, and the moment you get out of the slipstream to overtake, you shoot straight down from ~230MPH to below 200MPH. It's so bad that you can never overtake anyone on the straight, because you lose too much speed too quickly.

Oh yeah, not forgetting the fact that you have to lengthen the gear ratios even to be able to hit 230MPH while slipstreaming.

It performs so weirdly when you're accelerating. There's almost nothing, then when you hit 6,000 RPM, you're kicked up the backside! :p

Anyway, has anyone got suggestions for what car to use for that race? I won a Ford GT LM II last night, so I don't know if you could do that up to take them on. I think I might have to end up saving money to buy a Formula Gran Turismo though. I did see one in the dealership last night when I bought the Escudo, but it was nearly 5 million credits! Although I guess you could breeze your way to that many credits just by doing an oval race over and over again. Shame they seperated A-Spec or B-Spec. :p I'll probably have to do the 10 lap Indy race in the Dream Car Championship. That takes about 7 and a half minutes, and gets you at least 70,000 CR for winning.

3 free cars for Christmas - http://www.andriasang.com/e/blog/2010/12/15/gt5_bonus_cars/

Sony has some sweet Christmas presents on the way for Gran Turismo 5 players. Owners of the recent racer can look forward to three free downloadable cars: the Lamborghini Murci?lago LP 640, the BMW M3 Coupe, and the Jaguar-XJ13. These cars have seen design arrangements by Polyphony and fall under the "Chrome Line" series,

■Lamborghini Murci?lago LP 640

■BMW M3 Coupe

■Jaguar-XJ13

The cars will be distributed through PlayStation Store from December 24 through January 31. Anyone with GT5 will be able to make the download for free.

Are they going to be fully premium versions, or just nice standards without interiors?

I know which one I am hoping for, lol.

Free cars are always a plus though. thumbs_up.gif

As they are part of the Chrome Line I would imagine they will be premium :)

Can't say I know what the Chrome Line is, lol.

The Joystiq article says these will be japan only, hopefully there not, but if they are then I hope they work across accounts or I guess you can just play the game on a Japanese accept and gift them to your proper one, lol.

Turn all the driving aids off but the skid recovery or whatever it is, I've got a gold in all three now, it just takes some time to learn how to shove your cars ass round a corner properly, braking properly and not overshooting corners that will smack you into a fence.

Thanks for the tip, I managed to Gold the first challenge! Still got the others to do but this helped alot!

    • I can answer about the Linux bit. I only used AMD GPUs. I currently have a 9060XT (8GB) that fits my needs, I'm not a gamer, so I don't need that much GDDR. But lately, NVIDIA has grown a lot in the recent years. Oh, the horrors of NVIDIA drivers not working. But they have been getting better. I know a lot of members onm here that are running cachyOS and other distros, and are fine with a 4090/5090 variants. Really, though, I would stick with AMD variants.
