Kinect priced at $150 on Microsoft's own store

And debunked YET AGAIN by Microsoft:

A quick update on Kinect's pricing. That $149.99 price tag spotted on Microsoft's own online store? Nope, still not to be considered official.

Says Stephen Toulouse, Xbox Live's Director of Policy and Enforcement: "All prices now *no matter what the retail source* are placeholders. We've not announced [the price]"; words that are further backed up by a Microsoft representative who's essentially echoed the same earlier today: "We haven't yet announced pricing details for 'Kinect for Xbox 360. Stay tuned."

So I guess until MS announces a price, we are just back to speculation.

lol, figured. huh.gif

Maybe someone else could be a bit more elaborate on this supposed well known MS marketing strategy.

Did I say it was limited to MS? No. Plus, nobody here is going to know an accurate date or time unless they work for them. What does it matter when in the first place? Pick up a business book sometime & educate yourself. If you can't see the benefits of leaking a price to judge the reactions, where you can adjust accordingly to something people will like better, then you & Spookie are clearly not made for the business world.

As someone already said, they've killed it already well before release. They may as well just not bother releasing it at all at this price. It really needed to be under $100. I was somewhat interested, but there's no way at that price. Reading comments around the web, it seems this has pushed a ton of fence sitters of the fence and made them lose interest.

The last year or so, MS was looking like they could do no wrong. But they've been making some very serious mistakes lately. First Kin, then the horrible UI of WP7, and now this. I like MS products, but they seriously have to re-think what they've been doing lately.

Did I say it was limited to MS? No. Plus, nobody here is going to know an accurate date or time unless they work for them.

I still can't believe some people don't understand MS will leak prices themselves to judge on the reaction of the price.

I'm sorry, was this meant to be a generalization on corporate marketing strategies?

All I wanted was substance to what you said. Not an accurate date or time and surely not some failed lecture on business ethics.

Simply any incident where this has ever occurred would've sufficed. One within MS would've been a plus to your argument.

As for business, there are countless ways for a company to be less liable than to list its products pricing in its own store with the sole intention of getting public feedback and altering it before release. Wouldn't you agree?

It's apparent this argument isn't going anywhere. So I'll leave it here. I'm 100% sure this is going to be set at the original price it was listed by it's source. Changing it in this case, would be more costly than beneficial from a business standpoint. No consumer likes to be toyed with. Except CoD fanatics :p /lowblow

Why would it cost anything to come out with an official price that's lower? A lower price would sell more and is better from a business standpoint, i don't see why or how it'd be "costly".

As for the $150 price, maybe we will see it as a official price but it could just as well be the price of the device plus a game or two. It makes more sense to sell something like this with a game at least and not on it's own. $150 for kinect + 1 or 2 games sounds fine to me as a starting bundle. The fact is we don't know, we're all guessing, you as well. Retail will price it at the highend so they don't take a hit if/when the price goes lower, it just makes sense.

Ahahaha, beautiful! You earned yourself a bit of rep for that, young man.

Never met another person in the world who knew of that game. :D

I know of it.. I'm just not happy to acknowledge the fact the fact that I've beaten it.

If I had said "I still can't believe some people don't understand only MS will leak prices themselves", then maybe you'd have a point. But seeing as this topic is 1) in the MS section and 2) about Kinect, then I really don't need to talk about any other company.

"less liable", like leaking a price themselves is going to cause any harm. Sure, there's lots of other ways to gather info, lots of them involving money. Changing the prices on their websites takes very little effort & money. It's cheaper than surveys, questionnaires or even the mythical paid forum posters. For all we know this guy is working for MS https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/911920-whats-kinect-worth-to-you/

Don't really care what you believe the price is going to be, I'm waiting for the official announcement MS said they'd make.

    • Any decent ITSM will A) have a web form that allows a user to raise a ticket, if you're writing an email you can write a ticket. B) Monitor a mailbox and auto-generate tickets based on inbound mails for those users that really can't get their heads around the concept that if you have an issue you go to support.mycompany.com and fill in the box. From your description you're having users email the desk, and then having a human read each one and manually raise a ticket on behalf of the user.

    • Fixing things? Have you ever tried linux? Everything works out of the box nowadays in most common hardware. This includes Wifi and Bluetooth. If anything, if they return back to windows is because they haven't found an equivalent program which often used on windows.
