I used to be a PC guy when I was younger but as I've gotten older I have gotten really busy and don't have the time for all the necessary tweaking of PC games so I have switched over to consoles. I think the 360 controller is by far the best but I am tired of Microsoft treating their customers like dirt so if Sony could ever put out a decent controller I'll be buying their machine.

You will find that Sony and MS are both treating their customers like dirt. But don't let the dualshock prevent you from getting the PS3. There are a bunch of controllers out now that mimic the 360 controller for the PS3.

Serious gamers have both, or all of them for that matter. There are console-specific titles like Heavy Rain I probably won't ever see on a PC, but at the same time my PS3 doesn't really do IIS 7 and VS.NET 2010 Ultimate :)

no the most serious gamers tend to stick to one platform and focus on one game and play the rest casually.

casuals divide their game time between different platforms liberally and tend to not have a main game.

and then everyone else falls in between(yes i excluded wii owners and protable device gamers on purpose).

not saying someone who is hardcore or serious don't necessairly own a 360 and a pc for example, but chances are they have or are waiting for a main game they will focus on and play other games on their other platforms very casually or as breaks from their main game.

imho for most gamers the wii is a waste of money but for someone who wants to game with friends over drinks once a week or twice a month it's a great system. but talking as former hardcore gamer who has tried the wii, the controls were just too silly and loose/easymode to take seriously. then there's the old pc fps vs console fps players and controls argument and i would argue that someone who really wants to take fps seriously can not do so with the sloppy controls a console controller offers at best.

then there's people who spend tonnes of money on ALL gaming platforms but either play one platform more than the rest or play all of them equally rarely. you can't really call either of these serious gamers(necessarily), but rather simply people who have a lot of extra disposable income. not included in this are no lifer weflare bums who's parents buy them every system and game and spend 16 hours a day playing games, same goes for mmo players who are unemployed and spend 16 hours a day playing their mmo of choice.

in any case it's kind of silly to say something like "serious gamers..." i mean because it's a ****ing hobby. i mean i have taken it pretty seriously in the past, but no more than any sports fan takes their sport of choice(and probably less so than some of them). i spend money and time on this hobby, it makes me happy or enraged sometimes, but i definitely take whatever employement i have more seriously than gaming. sure if i make plans in a game i try to stick to them over irl engagements, but just like i have been known to skip out last minute on a social gathering for w/e reason, i have been known to skip out on a game last minute for a irl social event. do people take it seriously? probably too seriously even. but then again league play for most games these days is a hilarious joke with cash handouts and huge amounts of corruption. getting started up in paid gaming tends to be too expensive for the actually best gamers out there, and then there's lolzy **** like wow arena sponsored league play, like omg wtf is that **** because honestly until they make a pvp only server with instant max levels and free gear and fix their ****ing class balance instead of just chaning up FOTM classes and comps every couple months, wow arenas do not belong in league play. and then there's the mess korea's professional gaming scene has come to, which if you're not paying attention for the past year has been revealed to be rife with corruption and thrown games for cash from betting and so on.

You can't beat the graphics put out on a computer that has a medium-high end processor, a bunch of gigs of memory and lastly but most importantly a good graphics card. For almost all my FPS I use my keyboard but for games like HAWX and Mafia 2 the Xbox 360 controller is a must have for flying and driving. I still have my Force Feedback 2 controller waiting for MS next flight simulator if that ever comes out.

yeah i've been thinking of picking up a 360 controller for pc for mafia2 and vindictus.

i watched my bro play rdr and mass effect 2 (and a bit of me1) on my vacation on his 50" 1080p LCD tv. from 3 feet away you could really see the pixels, but from further than that the newer games looked pretty good imho.

comparing me1 to me2 you could really see the improvement in overall graphical appeal, including art direction, level deisgn and texture quality, as well as use of shadows and other tools available to the 360. my bro commented he liked me1's style of loading better(where you're in an elevator that is super slow) vs me2's loading screens which he felt got repetitive fast. he also has me1 on pc and plans to get me2 for pc as well, which he noted in me1 the elevators went super fast compared to teh 360 version.

one thing he noted about playing me2, which he felt was alot funner to play than me1 due to various control and ui improvements, is that going biotic was a lot easier to run through the game than using guns primarily due to not needing to be precise or even vaguely accurate with the biotic powers. i watched him played as both a biuotic and a ar/sniper user and biotic battles were much shorter and easier looking. i'm sure this disparity doesn't exist to this extent on the pc version.

In my opinion using the Xbox 360 controller on my PC is difficult for sniping (herky jerky). I'm sure it just takes practice. With a mouse I can put the crosshair on a guys head very fast. Its quite the opposite for driving or flying where the 360 controller is very smooth and gradual. Not very practical on a keyboard. I would recommend any PC gamer who doesn't have one to pick one up. Sometimes when I want to get a different perspective from playing on my 27' Sceptre I switch over to my HDMI option and play on my 42" Vizio TV. Now looking at those graphics from PC to 42' LCD TV is stunning !

Well I am more of both, but since I do not have a console ATM I been getting into the PC keyboard to play; sometimes I do miss the controller though, but I do have a 360 controller for the PC as well.

Console all the way, not one positive in my eyes of pc vs console. I rather have the controller than use a mouse and keyboard anyday. And the "better graphics" on computers is a weak argument, "super cool graffix" don't MAKE the game if your a true gamer. I also perfer console because there are fewer hackers and cheats.

Well this is a PC centric website ;). Throw the same poll on a console website and I bet the results will differ :)

This is a general technology centric website, not PC IMO. There are as many mac, xbox, and PS3 users that browse this site as there are PC users, the only difference is there are simply a lot more PC users than console users.

Obviously if you put this poll on a console site then the console will win, but, similar to this site, if the poll is placed on a general gaming site (not console centric), then PC will typically come out on top because there are far more PC gamers than console gamers.

No question it has evolved. However, it's baseline has always been "Windows" (NeoWIN) and the PC since it's inception 10 years ago (when I started following the website). There are more PC users on this site than anything else. This was the place to come for PC gaming as well. Once the Xbox was introduced, they started expanding their gaming efforts.

The site is PC at heart, and they never lost focus of that.

Yes, but there are many more console gamers on this site than there would be PC gamers on a console centric website. So sure, if this poll was on a console centric site, consoles would win. But this poll is more accurate than the numbers if it were on a console centric site.

Console and controller for me. I'm pretty sure it's just because it's what I know best... growing up, we were far too poor to afford the best computers, the ones that could handle the latest games. A console was cheaper and we usually got one used, thus, even more so. Now I have a nice PC that could handle games, but I find a controller to be easier for me to use, since I've been doing that all my life.

More accurate on this site, yes, but STILL skewed to PC.

I was a big PC gamer in high school and a few years after, I moved over to console around 2002. This winter, however, I've grown the urge to get back into PC gaming. I've been playing Mass Effect via BootCamp and the difference in control scheme is unbelievable. I enjoyed ME on 360 but am absolutely enthralled with ME & Dragon Age on PC. I am in the process of putting together my first build in 7 years due to the excitement of ME3 and Dragon Age II coming next year.

For a few games - sports games, Rockstar games, etc. - the console is fine.

    • I disagree here sorry. The majority of their customers are corporations who are locked in to their eco system and have no choice. Private individuals don't contribute that much to their income.

    • When will the Photos app be updated to remember the window size and position when reopened? They addressed this issue in a 2024 version of the app (though I can't recall the build number). Unfortunately, after that specific version, the problem persists! Please prioritise this fix in your K2 schedule. Additionally, the Snipping Tool has lost the ability to capture the Windows Taskbar starting from the 2024 version!
    • Same, never saw it on Android or iOS. Guess only some people got it *shrugs*
