Xbox 360 / iPhone / Playstation 2 (Megadrive came close)

I own a PSP and NDS, got bored of both rather quickly.

iPhone might not have the hardware, but the price per game, digital distribution, and that it isn't an extra item to carry makes it a winner for me.

3DS shouldn't even be an option seeing as it isn't close to being out and I doubt anyone here has actually played one.

I decided on:

Ps3

iPhone/iPod Touch

Super Nintendo

Though my last choice would be split between Snes, PS1 and the PS2 given the choice.

In terms of pure gaming, I think the Xbox 360 is the best of the current generation. In my opinion, Live is far superior to the PSN. All multi-platform games seem to be better on the 360 than the PS3, and the controller is better. I also like the 360 exclusive games better than the PS3 exclusives.

I voted for the DS as the best handheld simply because Nintendo has sold a bajillion of them. I have one, but I hardly use it. I've never had any of the other handhelds though. The DSi is definitely the most successful of them all.

I think the PC was the best "previous" generation platform. Consoles couldn't match the controls or performance of the PC (and still can't IMO), and the games were much better than consoles back in the day. However, developers have dialed back PC implementation significantly compared to the late nineties and early 2000's. Now all we seem to get are half-assed console Ports and buggy, unfinished products. Not to mention almost every PC game now has some sort of incredibly offensive, and intrusive DRM. PC gaming's golden years have come and gone unfortunately.

PC all the way, although i've dialed back my gaming quite a bit over the last year or so.

i own a psp, never play it. what few hour si did spend on it the controls were awkward and the couple of games i've tried are not very good. it turns out the games i wanted to buy for it are only sold in japan. i tried using it's wifi capabilities at an air port once( free wifi) but it was fubared. so now i basically have a $200 shiny paperweight on my nightstand collecting dust.

i bought a ps3 for one game last year, because i couldn't find that game on xbox360(which i didn't own either), i beat the game, looked around at other games on ps3, then decided to sell teh ps3 since i don't have a tv worth watching blu rays on, and i usually watch movies on my pc anyway.

I would have loved to put my original xbox on there as the best console of last generation because it truly was a great system in terms of games, online, and 'cool-factor', but with something always going wrong with the DVD drive or just other odd issues the experience was horrible, so much so I would NEVER buy another microsoft concole (and still haven't)..

That being said my order:

PS3(Because I use it for everything...), 3DS (taking a gamble, as it's not released, but it's got me interested for the first time in handhelds), and of course my still kicking PS2(purchased at launch, now my kids use it)

PC for current generation because that's what I play on usually (nothing special Q6600, 9800GT, 4GB DDR2).

DSi for hand held because if I was going to buy a hand held it would be a DS.

Sega Genesis for previous console because of the consoles I owned I definitely put more hours in on the Genesis. Also, I can still enjoy of the Genesis games (like the games on the Genesis collection that I bought for my PS3).

You left out the C64 and the Turbografx16! I'd also say the TurboExpress, but it's the same thing as the Turboografx, just portable. Which actually makes it the coolest portable ever. How many other portable systems can play the same games as their big brothers?

For past, present and future, my PC. No competition.

If I had to pick a current console, it would be the 360 I think. (I'd still prefer gaming on a PC though.) I have a Wii, but aside from minor bouts with Super Mario Galaxy 2, its mostly a NetFlix device, at least until the next Zelda game is released.

My daughter has a Nintendo DS.. neat little bugger. I toyed with a PSP a couple times, but just didn't feel right in my hands, as impressive as the hardware is.

For the older ones, for the sheer number of games (and many were good), the Super Nintendo. For the platform itself, the Sega Dreamcast was amazing for its time. Just didn't get the developer support that it sorely needed, and died an early death.
