Before reporting an issue with the site/didn't receive validation email

Recommended Posts

At Neowin we strive to make your stay here as comfortable and enjoyable as possible, this is why we have a dedicated developer team, but do not expect support from us under the following scenarios;

Common unsupported scenarios:

  • You are using an Alpha or Beta web browser (we only support stable final releases as a rule).
  • You are using a custom style-sheet (CSS) & have modified the site to your own liking.
  • You are blocking Javascript with a browser extension like NoScript.
  • You are using an ad-blocker, some features are intentionally broke or disabled with ad-blocking in place.
  • You have not done a hard refresh of the site after major/minor changes (CTRL + F5 on most browsers).
  • Other frequently asked questions;
  • How do I change my display name?
  • How can I filter off topic posts on Neowin?

The answer to that and many more questions like it is simple. Explore your "My Settings" panel here: http://www.neowin.ne...e&module=usercp

I changed my email address and didn't get a validation mail!

  • Look for @neowin.net email in your spam/junk folder

And finally...

Use the Search, it's likely that an issue you are posting about has already been posted!

Hopefully that helps weed out some un-needed bug reports. How about stating specifically what should be posted in Bug Tracker vs SFI? I know I tend to post any bugs I find in Bug Tracker and often times it is reposted in SFI by someone else.

To me, we should report all issues in the SFI forum. If they are then investigated and found to be bugs then they get moved into Bug Tracker so we can follow their progress.

That's the way i would do things, don't know if that's what neowin thinks? If it's not, then how should we do it?

I thought they should be posted in the Bug Tracker, then once they are confirmed they get moved to "Confirmed (Open)."

If that's the case, I would suggest locking the Bug Tracker forum like its subforums so normal users cannot start new topics in them.

Also, on the top of the Bug Tracker forum, this is the description:

  Quote

This forum allows members to log bugs and issues we have missed while coding Neowin. If we can reproduce your submitted bug it will be submitted by staff to Confirmed (Open) forum.

This means the bug is being worked on, no further assistance is required!

Please try to be thorough when submitting bugs as staff will need to reproduce the problem. Some topics may be moved to Feedback Needed members will receive a automated PM if the topic is moved there. Members will also receive an automated PM response when a bug is assigned Fixed (Closed) status.

Some bugs may not be dealt with if it's an Invision Board issue, these can be submitted to Invision Power Services directly either by staff or yourself.

What 'features' are broke/disabled?

perhaps you should add for people to search for already created topics, I even find myself guilty of not doing that every once in a while.

Nothing, now.. Minispy used to be disabled, but AdBlock Plus team fixed that lol.

But basically, the web site might now work as expected with an adblocker, and especially NoScript!

Will do.

    • WUT?! Tell us you've never built desktop software without telling us you've never built desktop software... The chromium rendering engine is the content-rendering engine for "chromium-based browsers," but that does NOT mean there's a full-on UI underneath that is somehow bloating these products. The bloat is from the additional UI components that the browser vendor (Vivaldi) is adding atop the base package. Most chromium browsers customize the default skin/theme of the overall package so there's absolutely zero added overhead; it's really just a different CSS-based theme pack. Vivaldi, however, adds more than just a different skin; they add built-in extensions (that are managed by other built-in extensions), add other customization modules, and all kinds of other bloat -- and these add-ons are EXACTLY where the resource-hogging stems from. The mere fact it's a chromium-based browser has no impact on the matter. Lastly, power users literally DO notice resource-intensive applications -- they'll even be familiar with tools and widgets that expose those measurements the way only a power-user would! General consumers, however, would simply remark that their rig is sluggish and probably outdated and blindly upgrade to whatever the salespeople are hawking at the local computer store. General consumers wouldn't even upgrade their existing computer cuz they wouldn't know how to!
