Before reporting an issue with the site/didn't receive validation email

Recommended Posts

At Neowin we strive to make your stay here as comfortable and enjoyable as possible, this is why we have a dedicated developer team, but do not expect support from us under the following scenarios;

Common unsupported scenarios:

  • You are using an Alpha or Beta web browser (we only support stable final releases as a rule).
  • You are using a custom style-sheet (CSS) & have modified the site to your own liking.
  • You are blocking Javascript with a browser extension like NoScript.
  • You are using an ad-blocker, some features are intentionally broke or disabled with ad-blocking in place.
  • You have not done a hard refresh of the site after major/minor changes (CTRL + F5 on most browsers).
  • Other frequently asked questions;
  • How do I change my display name?
  • How can I filter off topic posts on Neowin?

The answer to that and many more questions like it is simple. Explore your "My Settings" panel here: http://www.neowin.ne...e&module=usercp

I changed my email address and didn't get a validation mail!

  • Look for @neowin.net email in your spam/junk folder

And finally...

Use the Search, it's likely that an issue you are posting about has already been posted!

Hopefully that helps weed out some un-needed bug reports. How about stating specifically what should be posted in Bug Tracker vs SFI? I know I tend to post any bugs I find in Bug Tracker and often times it is reposted in SFI by someone else.

To me, we should report all issues in the SFI forum. If they are then investigated and found to be bugs then they get moved into Bug Tracker so we can follow their progress.

That's the way i would do things, don't know if that's what neowin thinks? If it's not, then how should we do it?

I thought they should be posted in the Bug Tracker, then once they are confirmed they get moved to "Confirmed (Open)."

If that's the case, I would suggest locking the Bug Tracker forum like its subforums so normal users cannot start new topics in them.

Also, on the top of the Bug Tracker forum, this is the description:

  Quote

This forum allows members to log bugs and issues we have missed while coding Neowin. If we can reproduce your submitted bug it will be submitted by staff to Confirmed (Open) forum.

This means the bug is being worked on, no further assistance is required!

Please try to be thorough when submitting bugs as staff will need to reproduce the problem. Some topics may be moved to Feedback Needed members will receive a automated PM if the topic is moved there. Members will also receive an automated PM response when a bug is assigned Fixed (Closed) status.

Some bugs may not be dealt with if it's an Invision Board issue, these can be submitted to Invision Power Services directly either by staff or yourself.

What 'features' are broke/disabled?

perhaps you should add for people to search for already created topics, I even find myself guilty of not doing that every once in a while.

Nothing, now.. Minispy used to be disabled, but AdBlock Plus team fixed that lol.

But basically, the web site might now work as expected with an adblocker, and especially NoScript!

Will do.

    • KB5060829: Microsoft confirms new upcoming Windows 11 24H2 feature is triggering Firewall by Sayan Sen At the end of June, Microsoft released Windows 11 setup and recovery updates (KB5062233/ KB5060843/ KB5062197/ KB5061090) following the month's non-security previews for 24H2 (KB5060829) and 23H2/22H2 (KB5060826). Today, the company has confirmed that KB5060829 is causing some troubles for systems in regards to Firewall. Microsoft says that IT admins and system admins may notice a recurring error entry in the Security event log related to Windows Firewall With Advanced Security wherein the Event Viewer records event ID 2042, labeled “Config Read Failed” with the message “More data is available” each time the device restarts. Although logged as an error, the tech giant notes that this entry does not indicate a malfunction of the Windows Firewall and as such it can be "safely ignored and disregarded," and that Windows Firewall continues to enforce rules and filter network traffic normally as intended. Microsoft assures that "there is no impact to Windows processes associated to this event." IT support teams and even general users often rely on error-level event entries to detect misconfiguration and other issues (Microsoft itself recommends you do so), so unexpected log noise can trigger unnecessary alerts like these. Interestingly, in this case, the logged event stems from an upcoming feature as Microsoft notes that the "event is related to a feature that is currently under development and not fully implemented." No additional information regarding this new feature has been provided at this time. For those who prefer a cleaner log, administrators can filter out event 2042 in Event Viewer or via PowerShell. In Event Viewer, create a custom view filtering out ID 2042 under the Security log and in PowerShell, use the Get-WinEvent -FilterHashtable parameter. Microsoft says that the team is currently working on a fix and an update will be released later. However, no ETA has been shared today. You can find the issue entry here on Microsoft's official Windows Health dashboard website.
    • Concerning the situation at XBOX (title cancellations, studio closures and firing employees): The management at MS gaming division (Booty, Spencer etc.) has to go. Money and time has been wasted in such amounts that those people have to be held accountable and better managers can take the lead. In most other businesses this would have happened ten years or so ago.
    • Why, because different bothers you? You aren’t using the OS per your own admission so why is it a shame? It’s a great way to focus imo.
    • People often hate on what they don’t understand. It’s not stupid, it’s different. That said, ignorance more often than not rules the roost, so it is seen as stupid instead. How much time have you spent learning how to use macOS as intended before making your proclamation?
