IE9 Will Be Faster and Safer than Firefox, Chrome, Opera, Safari

Internet Explorer 9 has yet to reach the Beta development stage, but Microsoft is already touting the next generation of IE as superior to its rivals. The Redmond company has obviously thrown down the gauntlet, and managed to take swings at all rivals during the recent Worldwide Partner Conference (WPC) 2010. First, Kevin Turner, Microsoft Chief Operating Officer, revealed that in the software giant?s view Windows 7 is superior to all platforms on the market including Mac OS X and Linux. But Turner also noted that the upcoming iteration of IE9 will be faster and safer than Firefox, Chrome, Opera and Safari.

At the same time, he noted that Internet Explorer 8 is already the safest browser on the web today. Of course, as was the case with Windows, Turner did not mention IE?s rivals specifically. Still, it?s nothing short of evident what Microsoft COO meant.

?IE9 is going to be not only the most safest and secure browser in the market, which IE8 is today, it will be the fastest browser in the market. You saw some demos of that on day one. It's a smoking hot browser product,? Turner said.

Microsoft offered the first Platform Preview of Internet Explorer 9 in March 2010, and since then served two additional testing releases, about 8 weeks apart. IE9 Platform Preview 3 is now available for download, still a build aimed at developers, an aspect which will only change as Microsoft will release the first Beta of the browser

?And more than ever, there's a better web on Windows. And whether it's applications you're building on IE8 or the applications that are being contemplated for IE9, just a tremendous opportunity. IE8 is the fastest-growing web browser in history, and it has now become the most popular web browser on the planet. So, a lot of opportunity to build a better web on Windows,? noted Tami Reller, Corporate Vice President and CFO, Windows & Windows Live.

can't see IE9 being faster than chrome 6! Secure is definately right, google is run by the CIA as reported in the washington post yesterday.

Don't believe stupid scare monger stories, they come up with that ******** to they've got a headline so there papers will sell.

IE8 with protected mode on is one of the securest (if thats even a word) browsers out there. The only one thats equal (if even better) to it is Chrome with its sandbox mode.

Is it a safer browser (secure and safe have 2 different meanings)? That depends on the user and how well he uses it.

Architecturally, Firefox has been the least secure of the browsers.

As to how amazing and wonderful IE9 will be, we'll see when it launches.

why need separate security for browsers. i am believe Kaspersky its works better for all round security..

and also IE always works better in case of high speed internet only..

IE9 is great! The way it renders font is far superior to any other browser. You just want to stare at it all day.

I hate it. Anyway, it's nothing special. It uses DirectWrite, which is an API any other Windows application can use as well. The latest Firefox betas do.

Seriously, reading some of the replies in this thread; it seems people hate Internet Explorer because it's Internet Explorer. Historically, it hasn't been fantastic, and it has been in more recent years eclipsed by Firefox and Chrome, but IE9 is the fastest and most secure browser there, choosing not to use it because it's IE is just, well, ridiculous. And seriously, stuff like 'hate', for an internet browser? That's some pretty strong emotions there. It's not like IE ran over your dog or something.

Keep an open mind guys.

if ur a web designer than u will hate ie also

I think you may misunderstand what security means in this context. It means that the browser is designed in a way that makes it extremely difficult for bugs to be exploited in a way that will let an attacker run code as your user. IE tries to prevent this by running the browser in a separate process with fewer rights. Whenever it needs more rights, it has to communicate with a broker process and ask it to do it on behalf of it. This means that even if you manage to get code running in the browser, it can't really do anything to your system. This is known as "protected mode." Chrome has a similar setup, although it takes it a little further.

Protected Mode isn't perfect though, because you can easily escape from the limited process by tricking the user. Graphics in Windows has no security, which means something running in the limited process can just modify a warning prompt to say "click here to install updates" or "JavaScript error." Most people would probably click it. Boom, you've escaped and now have full access.

Firefox is worse though, because there everything runs with the same rights as your user, which means that any vulnerability in it automatically gives you full access with no extra work.

i am not accept this..

Firefox always faster & safer one

Like hdood said firefox is the least secured due to some missing features like address randomization. i believe they are implementing it in FF4

but chrome has all those security features which makes it hard to hack. I am a chrome fan

I disagree with this, it seems IE constantly needs security patches, Chrome's sandbox seems to be more secure.

Chrome actually need security patches too. Chrome do it behind the hood.

I agree with chrome being more secure but IE8 is secure too.

IE 9 look so promising and i am looking forward for it.

... And what makes you think Chrome doesn't? It's had a whole bunch of them, in fact, with a few of them fixing privilege escalation exploits in the sandbox itself.

I didn't say Chrome doesn't need security patches.

Apparently you managed to ignore everything I wrote. To re-iterate; if IE9 is faster, safer, and obviously standards compliant, there's no reason to hate it. Want to hate on Firefox because Phoenix 0.1 was crap?

    • I like Tidal, but it still does not control devices from the mobile/app and still no surround support. And yeah re: above comment I still get a lot of network errors and I am on a 4/4 Gbit Fiber connection.
    • Aren`t "security features" and "AI model that can see your screen" a tad diametric!
    • Samsung, Amazon extend 990 PRO 2TB NVMe SSD deal beyond Prime Day 2026 by Sayan Sen Recently, we had Amazon's Prime Day 2026 sales wherein there were several great deals including on SSDs. One of those discounted components was the Samsung 990 PRO SSD as the 2TB variant of it was selling for $370, a very good price after a long time. Although that deal was supposed to expire today, Amazon has now extended that sale further (purchase link under the specs table down below). The 990 PRO is a PCIe Gen4 NVMe SSD and still one of the fastest drives available today for under $400. Speaking of fast, sequential reads and writes are rated at 7450 MB/s and 6900 MB/s, respectively. The random throughputs for reads and writes are 1400K IOPS and 1550K IOPS, respectively. The 990 PRO is based on Samsung's 7th Gen V-NAND flash, and it too is TLC. It packs 2 gigs of LPDDR4 DRAM cache, which helps the random performance. The endurance rating for this is 1200 TBW (terabytes written), which should be sufficient for most users. The Samsung 990 PRO is compatible with the PlayStation 5, but if you are going to use the 990 PRO on a PC, check out the Samsung Magician app that lets you track your drive's health, update its firmware, customize various settings, and more. The technical specs of the Samsung 990 PRO 2TB are given in the table below: Specification Value Form Factor M.2 2280 Interface PCIe Gen 4.0 x4, NVMe 2.0 NAND Flash Samsung V-NAND TLC Controller Samsung In-house Controller Cache Memory Samsung 2GB Low Power DDR4 SDRAM Sequential Read Speed Up to 7,450 MB/s Sequential Write Speed Up to 6,900 MB/s Random Read (4KB, QD32) Up to 1,400,000 IOPS Random Write (4KB, QD32) Up to 1,550,000 IOPS Random Read (4KB, QD1) Up to 22,000 IOPS Random Write (4KB, QD1) Up to 80,000 IOPS Operating Temperature 0°C to 70°C Reliability (MTBF) 1.5 Million Hours Endurance 1,200 TBW (Total Bytes Written) Get it at the link below: Samsung 990 PRO SSD 2TB NVMe SSD (MZ-V9P2T0B/AM): $369.99 (Sold and Shipped by Amazon US) Good to know This Amazon deal is U.S. specific, and not available in other regions unless specified.
