Cross-dressing robber arrested after BB Gun bank heist

Recommended Posts

A bungling bank robber disguised himself as a woman with a blonde wig and fake breasts - but didn't bother to shave his beard off.

Dennis Hawkins, 48, completed his bizarre disguise for the U.S. raid with a pair of clown's trousers.

And it didn't take much in the way of detective work to track down Hawkins afterwards - he was discovered sitting in a parked car close to the bank covered in red dye from an exploding packet hidden in his stolen cash.

The robber had shop-lifted a toy gun from a nearby shop before heading for the bank in Swissvale, Pennsylvania.

He first sat down in a waiting area and initially turned down a teller who offered to help him, police said.

Shortly afterwards, the raider approached the woman teller and robbed her at gunpoint.

He passed the teller a note that read: 'This is a hold up. Do not put no dry packs in no money because I will see your family and also your kids.'

CCTV cameras showed Hawkins hiding behind a tree near the bank, opening a money envelope then dropping it when the dye pack exploded.

Detectives said he then ran to a nearby petrol station where he asked bemused motorists for a lift.

When they refused, he climbed into a woman's car. She promptly got out, took her keys and went to call the police.

Officers on the way to the bank robbery went to the station and arrested Hawkins.

He was discovered covered in dye, with the wig and toy gun stuffed down his trousers but still wearing the fake boobs.

Police Chief Greg Geppert told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette newspaper that Hawkins claimed to have found the money and took them to the tree where the dye exploded.

'He'd be my candidate for America's dumbest criminal,' Chief Geppert added.

Hawkins is being held in jail on $230,000 (£149,000) bail.

    • Thanks, Sony and Nintendo, you effectively killed platform-agnostic gaming. Long gone are the days when you could wish to play a specific game on whatever platform you were. Now, you have to buy the hardware just to play that single game. What, you're only interested in THAT game and nothing more? Bad luck, suck it and buy our console.
