New Google Images look and interface

Recommended Posts

I think this was news a while back - I've had this new look for about a week now, and it's different. I'll have to get used to navigating it but it was in need of an update.

Really? i only just got it today... it was the old interface yesterday

Yeah not a fan of this change either. I like the old way where you could see image sizes and domains without having to hover on every damn image, and then when you go to the page it shows the image in a frame on the top and you could scroll through the page to see if it contained anything interesting.... now you just get the page in the background with the massive image sitting on top of it blocking the view, and you can't scroll! Argh

I hate the new layout too. The old layout told me exactly how big the full image was, what type of format it was in, and sometimes even how credible it was through the source URL. Now all I see is stupid ass thumbnails that are not even in a uniform grid, and are extremely frustrating to sift through.

Edit:

To all the haters, simply scroll to the bottom of the page and click "Switch to basic version", and jobs a good en :)

Thank you, I think I love you. Didn't even know there still was a page bottom. I thought it was a never ending scroll now, like Bing.

I like it a lot. The images closer to each other, IE more on screen makes me able to find an image I'm specifically looking for faster than before. Also it's great for inspirational purposes.

Strange thing is, I have this new look for about a week now in my Ubuntu install, but when I booted to Windows it took until today to get updated. :)

I've identified those benefits as well; I love it. Saying that though I've always preferred Bing anyway, so it's nice to see Google have opted for a similar approach.

What kind of images are people looking for that requires them to know the size of every/most image in the results? Whenever I search for images, I'm usually looking for particular images or I will only like some of the images; then, I'd hover over the image/s I like to find the size, if I was after a particular size.

I just don't see a need for the sizes to be placed underneath every image in the results, so if somebody could give me some examples of when this would be useful, it might help me understand better :)
