DrunknMunky Veteran Posted July 29, 2010 Veteran Share Posted July 29, 2010 July 29th, 2010 @ 14:45By Johnny Cullen Nintendo UK marketing boss James Honeywell has hinted to Electricpig that 3DS will be sold for under £200 in the UK. “Price, we haven’t made any kind of announcement at the moment, but for everyone who already knows, you know, the Nintendo DSi is available for around £129.99,” said Honeywell at a Nintendo event in London earlier this week. He went on to add: “The Nintendo DSi XL, with the larger screens, is around £159.99. So obviously, it’s going to fit, kind of, somewhere within that kind of architecture.” Nintendo hasn’t confirmed any prices yet for 3DS for any region, nor has it confirmed launch dates, but it announced earlier this morning it will announce those details on September 29. It did previously confirm that it will be in the major regions by the end of March 2011. Thanks, Kotaku http://www.vg247.com/2010/07/29/nintendo-uk-hints-at-sub-200-pricing-for-3ds/ The further away from £200 the better, can't realistically see them pricing it more than the Wii. +Audioboxer Subscriber² Posted July 29, 2010 Subscriber² Share Posted July 29, 2010 Over ?200 would be stupid for a handheld. Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/925046-nintendo-uk-hints-at-sub/#findComment-592970556 Share on other sites
MightyJordan
Over ?200 would be stupid for a handheld. Exactly. The PSP Go hasn't been selling well, even with the promise of ?200 worth of downloaded games if you buy one, so what chance would the 3DS have? Yes, I know it's a 3D console, but is it really worth nearly ?100 extra? Especially when you can get a DSi for less than ?100 now. Vandalsquad
Will be interesting to see how they price this in Australia if they are aiming for sub 200 pounds which is over $400 over here. A Wii is $299, a Xbox Elite with games is $199, Slim $399. and a PS3 is $499. I doubt it'll be £199 to be honest. Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/925046-nintendo-uk-hints-at-sub/#findComment-592977562 Share on other sites
MightyJordan
It'll probably be either $299 or $350. Just like with UK, it'll either be ?150 or ?180. I doubt it'll be ?199 to be honest. Just so you know, the current conversion rates are $300 = ?191, and $350 = ?223. And they never do a direct conversion of the price when selling it over here. There's the matter of VAT, and also the cost of shipping all the consoles over here. If it did sell for $300 in America, it'd probably be about ?230 over here. c3ntury
Would be nice if it was, but I will be waiting for a flashcart before I buy it. Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/925046-nintendo-uk-hints-at-sub/#findComment-593010854 Share on other sites

thealexweb
Nintendo not helping yourself there, that's more than the ?150 mark which is the critical price, beyond that makes it more expensive that an iPod Touch and makes huge sections of the population simply not interested. They've got 3D and a whole library of DS games at their disposal on launch - something the iPod Touch does not have. Also, they'll also have Ocarina of Time 3D on launch, which I can guarantee is definitely going to rope in a bunch of the die-hards. I feel it's going to get the hardcore/nintendo loyalists in for the first year or so until it goes to ?150, which is when the casuals come in. Happened with the first DS, it'll probably happen with this one too. When it goes cheaper I would consider getting one then again my DS Lite packed up after only 18 months so I'll think twice about it tho. Mine's still going strong 4 years later (hell my N64 is still going strong a whopping 12 years later) - Nintendo hardware is built to last so it sounds like you just got unlucky. I'm picking mine up on launch if Ocarina 3D is there at launch, which I'm pretty sure it is. I've been gunning to play it again for ages but I'm holding off for the remake. Or, alternatively, if the line up looks impressive anyway. Chasethebase Veteran Posted August 16, 2010 Veteran Share Posted August 16, 2010 Bought my DS Lite on release, still works the same, with its 30 hour battery life (Yes, I made it last that long, bus trip back to Manchester from Barcelona, 6 hrs sleep, rest playing DS Lite with friends on bus). Just change the brightness down a notch when it goes red and you're good to go for a while longer. :p Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/925046-nintendo-uk-hints-at-sub/#findComment-593038246 Share on other sites

It can only manage a max of about 5-6 hours. So yours must be really good. Richard Hammond
Lol "under ?200", ?199.99 is under ?200. From Play.com, if you click 3DS you dont see a price but if you look down on the left hand side it shows you what you previously looked at and: I think Play messed up and put price up then took it down but forgot to remove it completely.
