A little over half way through the campaign. Very nice, loving it. My only complaints really would be that there was actually a section where it was entirely a cutscene and you got an aheevo for that. Really?

So far, much better than MW2 online and off.

Pretty sure that was only because that cut scene was also the end of the level. And/or what I have seen happen is I have gotten a few achievements for doing something within the level, but they do not kick in until the whole level is done.

I am about to fire up the last level of the SP, so chances are I will beat the campaign very soon, and after that I will be all about the MP.

Just another accolade for the SP... I actually find myself killing myself on purpose with a grenade, etc., just so I can replay a certain part over again... that is the sign of a good campaign.

Well, I had just received a 10 point acheevo, followed by a cutscene and then another 10 point acheevo. Unless the one prior was delayed in activation.

IIRC, it was the VIP, taking orders from Lancer....where you are walking through the Pentagon not really do any actions.I think I had just received "give me liberty" acheevo. Is it just me, or was "Lancer" really JFK?

it's because nuketown demonstrates the failed spawning system better then any other map

I really hope they fix that in the next updates...

I'm thinking about setting up an Xbox Community Playdate on a Friday sometime over the next few weeks playing Black Ops. Would anyone here be interested in joining?

I'm in. (Y)

The map voting ****es me off. We played Nuke town for 4 plays! I left after that, I don't know if they voted for it again. the voting system needs fixed.

Nice to see someone else agrees with me on this. When I get locked into nuketown I end up using my special nuketown class and going to town on all the tools who keep voting for it over and over again. I will have my revenge one way or another.

Whoever said the AK-74u with Grip is godly is correct, it's an amazing weapon. (Y)

SMGs are the last weapon I have been buying because the AK74u is the only gun I feel I need for an SMG. I just started using the MAC11 today and the only thing I can think of is why can't it be more like the AK74u.

Galil + orange dot sight = win.

It is funny because I was the first on my friends list to unlock the galil, first to use it, kept telling everyone it was a solid gun. They just blew it off like I was crazy. Then I start hearing them asking multiple times, what gun a dude on the other team is using because he is dropping people like flies with it. I respond everytime that he is using the Galil. They just blew me off like I was crazy. And then like 2 days later when they finally unlock it, they will not stop raving about how good the galil is. I just blew them off like they were crazy.

I'd be interested, too, but Fridays are tough for me (work nights). Monday nights on the other hand...

LOL can't say I've gone that far but I am enjoying SP as well. I'm actually fighting the urge to start MP so I can finish SP (something I did with CoD4 and was glad I did). And this is coming from someone who had ZERO interest in Black Ops. I just hope the MP is fairly enjoyable for us casual folks.

I started on Hardened but would like to go back for Veteran later. There's already story parts I've either missed or forgotten.

what do you use on that map?

what do you use on that map?

SPAS-12 with lightweight/sleight of hand/marathon. Eight rounds of death before a reload. Once I get in their spawn im getting between 2-6 kills every time. The bum rush will get them everytime, especially when they have their focus on other things. Vary your running routes into enemy territory and use the cover in the middle to your advantage.

God I'm sick to death of rubbish people playing Hardcore Search & Destroy, people who doesn't have a single shred of tactical ability or sense in their body. Most of the time dies within the first 15-20 seconds because they feel rushing at 350mph is the best approach, none of them could hit a barn door with a shotgun and they run around in big lumps of 3 people, getting blown to bits by a single grenade. You expect people have got your back or at least, the other entrance but then you realise they died AGAIN and you tend to get shot in the back or have to watch around you 360* limiting your effectiveness. I see myself alone so often and the matchmaking system always seem to throw me on the most incomptent teams ... Eugh.

Don't ****ing play HC modes and especially not S&D if you suck that bad and don't know any tactics whatsoever, it ruins the game for the rest of us - Thank you.

God I wish the TrueSkill system was implemented and working.

/Rant

Tough ****. I suck at cod but I'll play what I like, and the hardcore modes are fun :) If you don't like it, search with a full team..

Thanks to a lucky wink from my brother I have the PC version too and god I thought that day would never come but I truly have to say, the PS3 version is superior o.o

I did like every possible fix:

- Disabled Multi GPU in config

- Enabled Multicore in config

- Set maxpackets to 100

- Give BO CPU priority

the performance still sucks epicly, the fps in itself appear to be smooth just every now and then they drop to hell for a few seconds if I had a fps chart it would look like this:

\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/

and my ping is always +-70, the PS3 version plays like a dream compared to this sadly...

I agree the spawning system is not quite perfect but I quickly adjusted to it, whenever I play Nuketown and spawn, I walk backwards till I reach the house insides :p

As for gamemodes, I found Domination quite fun, even had good team play on Summit two times so far (PS3)

Yeah, I thought the same thing. And hmmm okay about the achievement, weird then.

Yeah I always play SP first more often then not, as hard is it is, especially with everyone else I know going right into MP, I find it to be a good warm up so to speak for MP, and at the end of the day if I had to choose just playing SP or just playing MP, I personally would take SP every time. I just enjoy getting lost on my own in a game world. With that said, I do enjoy MP as well, and I can say I think you will also enjoy it. I just checked out 2 matches on my own real quick, and it is definitely enjoyable, although as expected, I was pretty much dominated. I went 9-11 and 9-7 my first 2 matches. Not horrible, but not great by any means.

Once I played the 2 matches, I had to check out the theater mode, and seriously it is so damn cool. Yet another great addition to this game. Seriously as far as bang for your buck, this is definitely the best release of the year. Between SP, DoA arcade game (which I also checked out real quick on my own), Zombies, and then just straight up MP, really does not get much better then this.

Here is my first screenshot playing around in Theater Mode.

screenshot.2047e45c9aaa5e435b6cca270da3896e.232151526578.jpg

I did get the game winning kill in my first match online.

I made a quick little video of it from the same angle, but it is not showing up on the CoD website, and now when I try to upload it, it just does nothing, so I guess they are still working some kinks out there. In all fairness, the site does say Theater mode is still in Beta. But definitely very cool.

So tomorrow morning EST time I should be on playing some MP if anyone else is around. I may wind up playing Zombie mode with a few friends, but if not, definitely into playing MP, and the more the merrier is how I see things. Hoping to be on around 11 AM EST, and will probably play until at least 1 PM, and if not a bit longer, all depends on if I want to watch some football or not.

ergh, the stuttering is so bloody annoying, i put the fps indicator on through the console, and watch my average fps of 60 drop to 15 every 20seconds or so for no reason, dropped the graphics right down so averaged at 90 but still dropped down to 10-15. I thought the latest patch was supposed to fix this

I had to just quit the game now as it was getting more frequent, it was like i had a ping of 300 or something (when it was actually 50), i hope they get this fixed very soon, as its bloody frustrating, one second no1 is in front of you, next second ur dead as some1s run upto you and knifed you

Hrm, the patch fixed it right up for me. Don't know why some people are still having issues.

Galil is awesome, and finally unlocked camo now so I'm rocking Siberia or Ice on everything. (Y)

Things are a little better now. There's less lag and my friends and I are having better luck with finding a match as a party. The spawning system is still as bad as ever though. I feel so bad when I use it to my advantage (e.g. killing people as soon as they spawn).

Just started with the SP today, it seems very engaging. Hopefully ill have be able to renew my XBL subscription by Tuesday & i would be able to check out the game MP as well .

It does? I always search with a party. Usually 3 of us but sometimes 4/5/6.

It's not my fault if you can't get basic features to work!

God you are dumb as a barn door, definitely my fault the matchmaking servers aren't working - Are you even talking about the 360 version  ?

Anyone here can confirm they don't work very well with parties at the moment, it's neigh on impossible to play with friends especially when you are more than 3 in the party, it goes all to hell.

All this because you get offended over ruining other people's playing experience.

    • Poll: Grand Theft Auto VI price predictions, cast your vote by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe After years of waiting, Rockstar will be solidifying the launch date of Grand Theft Auto VI with the launch of pre-orders next week. While the studio has confirmed a date for this occasion, it is yet to attach a price to the highly anticipated game. So let's see what our readers think it will cost at launch. The Grand Theft Auto VI pre-orders will kick off on June 25 for digital and physical editions. Unless some last-minute changes happen, the release date will be November 19, 2026, across Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5. Unfortunately, there's still no information about a PC version from the developer or the publisher Take-Two. Now the question becomes, how much will Grand Theft Auto VI cost at launch? The game is predicted by some analysts to be the biggest launch of an entertainment product ever. With the amount of hype that has been built behind it and with ballooning development costs, Take-Two may price this Grand Theft Auto entry differently from other AAA titles. The current price of a AAA game is $69.99. That norm almost rose to $79.99 before calming down. But with such a massive release, Grand Theft Auto VI may be the game that pushes the boundary again. It's also possible that Take-Two keeps the price relatively low to increase the number of players that jump in early and keep them hooked on Grand Theft Auto Online to spend on microtransactions for years to come. Keep in mind that the below poll is asking for a prediction of the standard edition price, not a deluxe or any other special edition that Take-Two will introduce for additional benefits. Also, there is also the chance of the company splitting up the campaign and online portions. If you think that will happen, put your vote on what you think will be the total cost of the two. Poll Poll: How much will Grand Theft Auto VI cost? $59.99 $69.99 $79.99 $89.99 $100 or more Submit Vote If you have a very specific prediction in mind, sound off in the comments below.

    • The Light of Life? We actually do glow till our Death, study finds by Sayan Sen Image by Rafael Rendon via Pexels A study by researchers at the University of Calgary has found that living organisms produce an extremely faint light known as ultraweak photon emission, and that this glow appears to drop significantly after death. The research was published in the Journal of Physical Chemistry in April 2025 and quickly drew widespread attention, leading to more than 200 news stories about the findings. Ultraweak photon emission (or UPE), sometimes called biophoton emission, refers to tiny amounts of light released by living cells as a result of normal biological activity. A photon is the basic particle of light, and researchers say every living system examined so far, including plants and animals, has been found to emit these photons. The glow is far too faint to be seen by the human eye. “I suppose it has a little to do with people being reminded of auras,” says Dr. Christoph Simon, PhD, one of the authors of the study and a professor in the Department of Physics and Astronomy in the Faculty of Science. “It is a fact that living beings glow. It’s a very weak glow, but it’s there and visible with very sensitive cameras.” According to the study, the light involved is extremely weak, ranging from 10 to 1,000 photons per square centimetre per second across a spectral range of 200 to 1,000 nanometres. For comparison, a nanometre is one-billionth of a metre and is commonly used to measure wavelengths of light. Detecting emissions at such low levels requires highly specialized equipment. To study the phenomenon, researchers used electron-multiplying charge-coupled device (EMCCD) and charge-coupled device (CCD) cameras. These imaging systems are designed to detect extremely small amounts of light, including individual photons, while minimizing background noise. The technology allowed researchers to capture signals that would otherwise be impossible to observe. The team worked with the Human Health Therapeutics Research Centre at the National Research Council of Canada (NRC) in Ottawa to examine photon emissions in mice. Researchers took two-hour exposure images of the animals before and after death and compared the results. “We saw that the level of light that they emit – this biophoton glow – is distinctly different between living and dead animals,” says Dr. Daniel Oblak, PhD, an associate professor in Physics and Astronomy and the corresponding author of the study. The images showed a clear decrease in photon emissions after death across the entire body of each mouse. According to the researchers, this provided direct evidence that living and dead tissue produce different levels of ultraweak photon emission. “It’s a very small amount and it’s, of course, very tricky to detect,” Oblak says. The study grew out of discussions between Simon, whose research interests include quantum biology, and Oblak, whose work focuses on detecting light for quantum communication experiments. Quantum biology is a field that explores whether processes described by quantum physics, which studies matter and energy at very small scales, may also play a role in living systems. “Since I work as a quantum physicist on light detection for quantum communication, I thought that experimentally we have a lot of the tools to be able to detect the light,” Oblak explains. The researchers also investigated UPE in plants and found that the light changed in response to stress. When plants were exposed to higher temperatures or physically injured, their photon emissions increased. Chemical treatments also affected the glow. Among the substances tested, the local anesthetic benzocaine produced the strongest emission response when applied to injured plant tissue. These findings suggest that ultraweak photon emission is closely linked to biochemical and metabolic activity inside living organisms. Metabolism refers to the chemical reactions that allow cells and organisms to stay alive and function. Because these reactions change when an organism experiences stress, injury or disease, researchers believe UPE may provide a way to monitor those changes. The researchers stress that the glow is a physical and biological phenomenon, not a metaphysical one. Oblak says more research is needed to understand exactly how the light is produced and what information it may reveal about the condition of living tissue. “We must understand what that is to figure out what’s happening,” he says. “If we can understand how that relates to certain influences on the body – stress, diseases – then that could be used as a diagnostic tool.” The researchers believe the technique could eventually help scientists study health and disease without invasive procedures. Because UPE can be measured without adding dyes, markers or labels, it may offer a way to monitor whether tissue is healthy, damaged or alive. In plants, it could help researchers better understand how organisms respond to injury, heat and other forms of stress. While the work is still in its early stages, the study demonstrates that ultraweak photon emission imaging can provide a non-invasive and label-free way to observe biological activity. Researchers say the approach could become a useful tool for studying vitality, stress responses and other important processes in both animals and plants.
