I just got burned in game pretty good. Spent good amount of time on building the perfect tree house and then decided to go crazy and build a lava river around the house for protection/lighting at night. Everything worked fine for a few in-game days, but then came a creeper exploding behind my back and ruined it all. The lava river protecting my house ran off-course and the next thing I know, it's all on fire.

Tried to save it with water, but the fire just spread way too fast :(

Never again gonna build a tree house out of wood.

You poor bugger. I have to admit that is ****ing hysterical though. :p

First I've heard of it is here - interesting concept... looks pretty cool. I could see this being scaled up to some kind of online sandbox WoW-esque world - potentially pretty awesome!

Not sure I like the idea of paying for an Alpha release though...

There is so much more stuff incoming like mob villages, seasons, alchemy and so on. Thing is when you buy the Alpha you buy all future versions too. He's already gone through two iterations so far.

It's easier if I quote his blog post from today:

Hiring some people, getting an office, and all that!

I will get back to posting about actual Minecraft development soon, but bear with me for some more business news:

It?s Monday, the trip to Bellevue is over, and plans are slowly turning into reality. I met a lot of really interesting people over there and got a bunch of new potential business contacts, but for the immediate future I will be investing the money I?ve saved up into hiring people and starting up a proper company.

Or, rather, a close friend and I will be starting up a new company together. That company will continue to develop Minecraft. I will be the main developer, and I will keep working on it just as I have now, but there will be people supporting me, such as an artist, a web site developer and a business guy to help sort out all deals and make sure that things like the Creeper plushies actually happens.

My friend (name withheld for a while for office political reasons) will lead development of a game idea he and I have talked about for a few years. It will be developed in parallel with Minecraft, and has a fairly different style both in visuals and gameplay. Everyone working at the company will be involved in both projects to some degree.

We?ll get an actual office type of thing somewhere in Stockholm. We?ll have mandatory game playing hours every week to make sure people are a jour with the latest games (indie and otherwise), and to help build office spirit.

If you live in (or can move to) Stockholm, are good at 2D graphics (pixels, gui, illustration), play a lot of games, and want to get a new job, please email [email protected] with a work sample and a short introduction and a summary of what you?ve done before.

We?re also looking for a web developer. Ideally this person should both be able to handle the front end and the back end of web development. If you know what a ?Cloud? is and can explain it to me, that?s a huge plus. ;)

[edit:]

If you?re worried this means I?ll spend more time on administration:

I spent way too much time already doing non-development stuff, like talking to paypal about them unlocking my account, traveling abroad, and sorting through support emails to see what bugs there are.

I will now hire a person to do all this for me, and some more people to help do the stuff I can?t do well myself (like the website, and some of the art (the armor)). I?m already getting amazing help with the sounds from C418, so I know getting help just makes me more productive.

I've learned my lesson and started to work on a new one... made of iron. So far, it's growing nicely.

http://img812.imageshack.us/img812/2561/61832492.jpg

Gonna add few more floors to it, try to grow a few more branches towards the water and then set it on fire intentionally to burn down all the wood, so just a huge chunk of iron will float in the air.

See how it looks and hope that in the future updates, iron will still keep floating in the air. Won't be nice, if it suddenly acts like sand or gravel.

I'll admit it, I didn't think much of this game until I played the free version online (on a server with very nice people, and like 50 of them lol) and was blown away.

I may order it tonight actually. Not sure yet, sadly my monthly funds are almost used up and I don't know if I can spend the stupid $10 it is :( (at least, I think it's $10US)

? = Euro. 9.95 EUR = almost 13 USD.

Well I looked at it this way: I buy it now I get all future iterations (beta, retail etc) included. It's worth spending the money. ;)

I just bought it i love survival mode but its annoying me at the minute im stuck at night time not being able to do anything i need coal for torches but i cant find any.

When you are first starting, I suggest you get enough wood for a workbench and a few torches (as well as a few wooden picks), then walk around the mountains looking for coal. Many times you can see it right on the surface, all you need is a few pieces for the first couple nights, enough to dig a hole in a mountain then put a few torches around the place. You can then block the entrance so nothing can wander in and just sit in there at night until you get more set up.

Basically just get enough wood for a workbench, then 1-2 picks, then go looking for coal and get enough for maybe 5 torches. From there, dig a hole in a mountainside and set up a few torches in it along with your workbench and just stay in there at night for the first few nights. Boring, but makes it easier to survive in the beginning.

What this game really needs though is a map, I know its about exploration and what not, but the first time I played I had to travel so far to get any coal that I didn't get back to my cave till after dark as I didn't know my way around at the time.

How do I get fire or torches? The wiki says I need iron and flint... do I simply mine these from the ground beneath me?

All you need for torches is sticks and coal, torches are automatically lit. All you need to do is use 1 stick with 1 piece of coal above it (you can craft it without a workbench even) and you will get a torch. For a full reference of crafting: http://minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Crafting

Fire on its own is really not useful in the game aside from burning things down, things like torches and furnaces are automatically lit when you use the coal.

    • The consumer ESU is ending in 4 months. LTSC isn't now, never has been, and never will be for consumer use, it is for OT usage - plant machinery, medical devices, manufacturing equipment etc. LTSC requires a Microsoft EA. You can't legally obtain LTSC to run on your PC at home.
    • Hmm actually looks decently interesting!
    • Being on GitHub doesn't make something safe. Like any unofficial scripts to do x or y this caters to people with just enough knowledge to be dangerous. If you want to do what this does, and you actually know what you're doing then write your own script (or maybe just add the reg keys yourself) if you don't have the ability to read and understand what a script is doing, and especially don't run it with elevated privileges. Or in this case just use an MSA, sign up the normal route, and stop trying to push water up hill
