I like it except for the new close, maximize, minimize column and the iTunes icon. Everything else looks pretty decent.

Yeah, it's a pretty radical violation of the Apple HIG, especially considering how much Apple cares about consistency across applications. Granted, it does match the Mini Player, but I do hope Apple isn't planning to eventually standardize on this vertical alignment. And I do like how the volume slider is now a chrome-like button similar to the one seen on the iPhone 4 and iPod touch 4G.

The icon I'm fine with. It's no better or worse than the old one.

Hey Kol - I don't know if this was intentional or not - but I did notice a slight "Windows" reflection in the upper left corner of the 512x512 icon.

Looks pretty sweet though. Already digging the different color. :)

..... If you're the designer could you make a rounded square version? :shifty: Got a bit of a theme going with my OS X. :x

also for a company that brags about its consistent/streamlined UI in it's OS, it sure loves making iTunes break all their own rules...

and one last thing, whoever approved the design of that icon needs to be fired, not the creator, but his/her boss. fugly describes it perfectly. thanks goodness we have kol around here.

I've noticed, though, that Apple tends to use iTunes for UI experiments. Things like the unified window look, Cover Flow, the all-inclusive sidebar, the user-centric model, the pastel scrollbars, etc. all appeared in iTunes first before they made their way into the rest of Mac OS X.

And the icon is okay. But it's always easy to change it with CandyBar or something. I'm sure people will probably still hang on to the old icon in case they want to keep using it.

X64 is smaller then X32 builds? ???????????

Apparently it is. Dunno why, though.

you are right, but it just makes itunes look like the ****** child of whatever OS it's currently on. If 10.7 looks like this that would be awesome. I actually don't mind the look, it's just it doesn't look right in its current environment.

I agree, but since Day 1, iTunes has never really matched. But I remember when the unified toolbar look first showed up in iTunes 5, it eventually became the basis for the look of Mac OS X Leopard. Things like Cover Flow also found their way into Leopard. So, I'd imagine that some of the new UI controls in iTunes 10 may just show up in Mac OS X 10.7.

iTunes 9.21 wasn't slow for me on windows...

Are you being serious? It's slow like hell on two different Windows 7 32-bits computers. One is running E6750 and the other is w/ Q6600.

iTunes really sucks on them.

And I'm not even mentioning the low syncing performance w/ iPhone 3G & 3Gs.

Soooo SLOWWWW.

/me hoping 10 would improve stuff (will download and test today).

My impressions:

  • iTunes 10 feels snappier? on OS X.
  • Monochrome sidebar icons are growing on me.
  • Dock icon: It's not bad. Can live with it.
  • WTF were they thinking with the position of the 'traffic lights?'
  • Tried Ping, didn't really see the point of it yet.
  • Neat trick in the OS X version: If you have the album art showing in the sidebar, double-click it and see what happens.
  • New volume slider etc a hint at the design of future OS X UIs?

All in all a solid upgrade.
