Wish I could reproduce this. lol I've never been able to do this in Safari 5 and I've used it every day since it was released.

Perhaps the issue with safari and the open tab was a problem all along, and they fixed a long term issue... That IPB has not come along and fixed yet.... (reverted to a normal browser) I'm still convinced that IPB does somethign special for the safari browser because if you watch it using the developer tools it doesn't fail until it loads safari specific code.

Well all I did was install Safari as normal, login into Neowin, navigate to this thread.

Then, open a new tab, load google, wait till it loaded fully, close the tab, and press reply under one of the posts

Safari opens the Google tab back up along with the reply window on this thread

On Neowin or any board that runs IPB, either QUOTE a message or use the FAST REPLY. The last tab you closed will reopen again, and steal the focus. This did not occur in Safari 4 and has been in every release of 5.

I really find it hard to believe the bug affects everyone else except for you. Are you using some kind of custom WebKit build? Because this only occurs with Safari, and it happens on both Mac OS X and Windows. It does not happen with any other WebKit browser on any other platform.

I'm not lying. I seriously can't make it happen. Standard Safari 5.0.2 with a few extensions (none of which affect Neowin).

What model Mac do you have? It just seems so strange that you are the only person I know of who hasn't had this bug. Just seems so odd.

I have both a 13" MacBook Pro and a 27" Core i5 iMac. I can't make it happen on either.

Maybe I'm doing something wrong? Here's a video of my MacBook Pro:

    • What they really need to do is automatically spell "loses" and "lose" correctly since nobody seems to know how to anymore. Then they blame spellcheck/autocomplete and don't realize autocomplete is just filling in the word for them automatically so it was misspelled in the first place.
    • If someone chooses to continue using SB and therefore goes through the manual intervention in the thread, afterwards the BSOD problem is gone. Whether they then re-enable the task doesn't matter, they're done, though on such machines it might pay to keep it disabled in case the next update (if there is a next) causes the same problem. OTOH, if someone disables SB in the BIOS, the problem is also gone. Incidentally, I noticed that this task exists even on machines that don't support SB. It's just installed across the board...and runs. Doing what on such machines is a little hazy.
