Restaurant Won't Tolerate Screaming Children

CAROLINA BEACH, NC -- Olde Salty's restaurant is living up to its name in an effort to bring peace and quiet to its dining customers.

The restaurant is getting tough on families with screaming children by asking mom and dad to take their temper-tantrum tots outside.

There are signs in the restaurant that read: Screaming children will not be tolerated.

"If they find it offending, I suggest that they find another restaurant to eat at that does tolerate it, because we're not going to," said owner Brenda Armes.

Visitors think the "salty"s stance is too much.

"I've never seen a restaurant say don't bring your screaming kids in here. You can't help if your kids scream," said Ashley Heflin.

If you've ever eaten in a restaurant with a kid who won't shut up and a parent who's too busy talking to her friend to do anything about it, you'll wish more establishments did this.

Seriously, you need a licence to drive a car or own a dog. How about one for having children.

In fairness, from reading that sign I understand that they won't stand for crying, screaming or whining adults as well...

There are pubs that don't allow minors in, even though to the best of my knowledge it isn't an offence for a minor to be in the pub. I've always assumed that it's so that adults can have a place to go where there won't be children. Why should a restaurant be any different? If they want to have a mature client?le they are within their right to do so.

Then don't ****ing eat there. Nobody is forcing you to eat there. I have a son, and I agree with this stance. It's their choice. Don't like it, get the **** out.

I wish more restaurants would do that!!!! nothing worse than enjoying a dinner or lunch with someone special, or a friend.... and kids start kicking off... Granted... sometimes it cannot be helped, but parents that just let them scream and carry on, and just raise their voices to hear eachother.... does my head in. And they get all bent out of shape when you say something about it!!!!!

Take the ankle biters outside where they can get their scream out... and settle down!!!!

Nice one!!!!!

In a world of political correctness these people will probably get slapped down for this move, but I fully understand it, and as with the above poster I wish more restaurants would do it. You go to a restaurant to have a meal in peace, having a kid screaming in your ear is horribly offputting.

Hell... I went on a first date with a girl in a pub in Ottawa the other night. we were enjoying ourselves until I started to hear a baby cry and scream like crazy.

I was SO insulted! Was I right?

Unless the baby was screaming obscenities at you, I don't think you were right to be insulted per se. However, you were perfectly within your right to be irritated, annoyed, aggrieved etc. :)

I don't think posting a sign is really necessary, it puts a very negative tone out there. You cant stop a child from having a tantrum you can only hope that it does not last long. But yes i agree that the parent should take the child outside. Having common decency and manners about the people around you seems to be lost more and more these days.

I've worked in a restaurant part time for the past 5 years during Uni and school and this would be a god send. The amount of people who simply let their kid run riot and don't give two sh**s is insane. I can understand crying babies but there's no excuse for badly behaved kids.

Good for them! When I go to a restaurant, I'm playing to have a nice meal, not to deal with some parent's unruly child because they're too lazy to do anything about it, and god forbid, they try to discipline their child, it's "child abuse" according to the politically correct society of today.

Bottom line: Either remove your unruly child from the area or keep them home until they learn to behave.

This is great, and it is about time. I really get tired of parents that feel it is OK that there child is yelling and screaming, and that everyone must understand. If they can behave and be quite, or leave.

Now if they would just do this at the movie theater, I might start going back to the movies during normal showings instead of waiting for private showings.

Redirect link doesn't work.

And I fully agree with the restaurant. No one wants to have to hear someone else's kids screaming. Maybe parents should be allowed to use physical discipline. It worked fine on me.

And before anyone asks, I'm 19.

Need more places like this. Years back when Hostel the movie came out, my wife and I went to see it. There was a half dozen kids in the crowd, including a few crying babies, this was a midnight show as well. When we went to bitch to the manager after the movie, they said that in Chicago, theaters cant ban children from any movie because of a law suit a few yrs back. We never went back to that theater again.

This place is not that far from where I live and I think a lot more resturants should do this, I hate going somewhere and the kids are screaming and throwing a fit. Seriously that what Chickie Cheese is for....

    • XBOX is at the end of its generational life cycle and wasn't selling much anyway. They need to figure out the pricing for XBOX Helios. However, I'm not buying the DRAM shortage with AI preferring HBM. I think it's industry gouging.
