i don't think my ISP uses speedburst at all.

a recent 200mb upload to youtube took half an hour.

well seeded torrents or large files such as mmo clients download very fast but start slow and take about 5 minutes to hit max speed.

Well I have been in contact with 2 different Tier 3 bozos this past week. These clowns arent much better than Tier 1, its just that Tier 3 is english-speaking americans - which helps immensely, but....

As slow and boring as 6Mb AT&T DSL was, I had their service for 4 years and never had a problem - makes me kind of wish I was still with AT&T:angry:

My god.

I live in Montana. I get 150+ ping on a regular basis to something 100 miles away, and I'm capped at 1.5 mbps, 256k upload.

I would do anything for that connection speed!

Just wanted to add an update to this thread.

I have since had my line fixed, my true speeds are just as they are supposed to be. And after some research - I've figured out that SpeedTest.net is one piece of junk test w/ a cool GUI. :D

That download speed is basically useless, and the upload speed is a joke. But of course they love using a marketing gimmick saying we have the best download speed around. I'd rather have symmetrical 30/30 than that. You'll never cap out your download speed (at least not for a few years at that speed) but you'll constantly hit your upload cap.

I don't think speedtest is junk. But I believe its only valid upto 50mb/s, limitation of flash or something. You need java to accurately test speeds higher than that.

I have the same plan as the OP for now. The connection quality is very good for me and I would upgrade although my mom is paying for this for now. FiOS and U-Verse are not available in my area at the moment and it is borderline Silverlake/Hollywood areas I'm in.

Yeah, I thought 50/5 was kinda lame as well - but what the hell - if I ever find a server that lets me download @ 7MB/sec- well - I'll be ready

As for the upload limit - the only way I think anyone (not on a server) would cap that upload speed would be uploading torrents -

But, I am a lot happier with it now since it was fixed.

Exactly the same as speedtest ;) But then here in the US I only have 15/2 ( 25/2 with speedboost) =(

Wideband is supposed to be coming to my area shortly, but its going to be $15 more a month for 40/5, which then puts my monthly bill at $80 :/

I was going to say your initial posts of your speeds are the not true speeds that you are getting. Time Warner Cable's Wideband offering at this point in time offers 50Mbps down by 5Mbps up. I've seen results like that in the past. Were you perhaps pulling those results from a cached version of the page?

No Tiger I wasnt - My connection was messed up for a while - whenever I would run a Speedtest, or even TWC's speed test - it would hover around 6mb-7mb for about 5-6 seconds, then shoot up to something ridiculous. I likened it to being really constipated, then everything sh*ts out all @ once :x

So it would sit around 6mb-7mb then right at the end spike to something like 1.1Gb !

But once I had the stuff fixed by some helpful Tier3 guys @ TWC - all is well - I am @ a constant 48/5

A well seeded torrent will usually sit about 3MB/sec - not too bad
