[WIN7] How To Make it Like XP

Recommended Posts

Ahhh... this reminds me of the days after the XP launch when countless discontent individuals would rant for days about how ugly XP was, how a cartoon had thrown up on their monitors and to vow never to run it except in Windows Classic mode.??What's old is new.??Maybe you can show this thread to the next generation when they're trying to make Windows 9 (which looks horrible) feel like good ol' Windows 7.

Winful post is winful. My opinion exactly.

Why is everyone bitching at the guy for choosing not to use UAC? I don't use UAC as I find it intrusive and a general PITA. I don't like it running in the background regardless of whether if notifies me or not.

It's like bitching at people for not running an anti-virus, I've never run anti-virus software and never will - I also can't remember the last time I got a virus... and best of all, if I do happen to get any issues I'd simply format. Formatting is not a big deal for me, it doesn't take me hours to do and I have a dedicated OS drive.

This is my point exactly. Every user has the option to adjust the level of protection their system receives. Some may not require such a high level of protection because they use their PC responsibly. Other's may just feel more comfortable with their PC running every anti-whatever software they can find. That's their choice.

Because you are basically saying "Yes, I wish to install every application I try to install"

Noone seems to understand the meaning of UAC.

BTW, if you run without UAC, then you must also run without antivirus, a firewall or antimalware correct?

The keyword here is I. Of course I do wish to install the programs I run the executable for. I copy and pasted Microsoft's definition directly from their website, and it couldn't be any more clear. I know exactly what UAC does and is meant for, and I don't receive any benefits by having it enabled. End of story.

All of my PCs do run an antivirus and firewall, and I am running one on the PC I am using to type this message. Though, to humor myself, I did decide to run my PC without any form of protection for a month, and when I scanned my system with popular protection software at the end of that month it came up clean. I take care of my PC, and with the aid of a hardware firewall built into my router there is no good reason to go over the top with protecting my system. The majority of viruses, malware and spyware aren't caused by lack of protection, they're caused by irresponsible browsing and downloading.

I visit the same sites daily, all of which I trust. I only download software from trusted sites as well. There is no reason I should have an extra layer of "security" enabled for the sole purpose of asking me if I really want to run that driver or software I just downloaded.

    • Microsoft, why can't I just turn off Copilot on my MS account (in order to stop OneDrive from wanting to summarize everything, ahem) in a way that doesn't break OneNote instead?
    • If we can't agree on a baseline of reality then there is no point in talking. Its a waste of time.
