Executor89
I have a XFX Nforce 750i mobo and I wanted to update the BIOS, so I burned the ISO and restarted my computer. When the CD tried to update the mobo, this is what I got: CD ROM Device Driver for IDE (4 Channel support)Driver Version: V340 Device Name: XFX 001 Error: Unable to detect ATAPI IDE CD-Rom drive Aftewards it shows a list similar to the below: PRIMARY MasterPRIMARY Slave SECONDARY Master SECONDARY Slave The confusing bit is that I do not have an IDE cd rom drive (I use SATA). Can anybody help me out? Another problem: now my BIOS freezes for 2 seconds every 5 seconds. Really annoying. Does anybody know why this happens? Any way to roll it back? Phenom II
Ive never heard of updating the BIOS by burning an ISO and booting the CD Which ISO did you burn ? Usually you download the BIOS, copy it to a FAT32 flash drive, restart the computer with the flash drive in, goto the BIOS and choose the update utility from inside the BIOS, point it to the flash drive and press go Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/936696-strange-bios-update-error/#findComment-593137212 Share on other sites
hjf288
Its the same thing, you make a bootable iso with the flash utilities... Either boot in manually or flash it or the manu providers a auto flashing disc :p I have a XFX Nforce 750i mobo and I wanted to update the BIOS, so I burned the ISO and restarted my computer. rakeshishere
@Phenom II You do get BIOS update in ISO/EXE form for various motherboards such as Intel/AMD etc @Executor89Was there any power interruption or did you connect any device during BIOS update? One option could be to clear CMOS setting after doing a BIOS upgrade which can be done by reseating CMOS battery Else You can try downloading the previous version on manufacturer's website and try to read motherboard manual in order to check process of rolling back the BIOS as different motherboards work in different way. I'm not quite sure how it goes with XFX Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/936696-strange-bios-update-error/#findComment-593137224 Share on other sites

Usually you download the BIOS, copy it to a FAT32 flash drive, restart the computer with the flash drive in, goto the BIOS and choose the update utility from inside the BIOS, point it to the flash drive and press go This was the only way I could get my BIOS to update, by using an image on a CD!! Also correct me if I am wrong, but I think SATA runs in IDE mode if AHCI is not enabled. I also had issues with my machine when I tried to enable AHCI, perhaps the version of your BIOS is enabling AHCI by default and often when you already have an OS installed this will cause issues. Executor89
This is the readme from the zip: Please BURN ISO image back to Blank CD by using a program such as Nero, Roxio, Magic ISO or Ultra ISO for example. Please choose BURN IMAGE TO CD in the program, the choose the ISO image in the location you saved it to. IMPORTANT NOTE If you have 2 CD / DVD ROM drives installed, you may get an error message when running this update, if you do see the error message " Cannot Read Drive R " or similar, then please just place CD in your second drive and all should be ok. I tried resetting the CMOS, but I still get 5 second mini-freezes on the BIOS. There was no power interruption... honestly I don't even think it updated the BIOS due to that "IDE not found" error. I think the only option I have is to disable AHCI (as Farstrider pointed out) and try to update the BIOS again. Lol, XFX only provides an ISO for 1.4 and a .113 file for 1.3, anything else is non-existent. Also they don't even have a forum where you can ask questions like these :(. Yes, the site must rank as one of the most pathetic I've run into ever!!! My God, I even registered to see how far I can get, but now I have to "register" a product and they want the same info AGAIN! They can get knotted as far as I am concerned! What a bunch of dickwads! Sorry dude, if I can find something to help I will let you know but I can't really see that happening! Good luck, I sincerely hope that you come right.
