it just takes a little getting used to. i'm the kind of person that in mmo's like wow i am looking the opposite direction of where i am running or attack more often then not, so i understand where you're coming from.

however this game reminds of dynasty warriors in terms of gameplay, with just less mobs. at least the gundam versions of dw. although in dw gundam you don't attack in the direction of the camera either :p

I'm losing interest in this game very rapidly, I just discovered that they are banning everyone who's not from the US or Canada, including US's off shore possessions such as Puerto Rico, Hawaii and even Alaska.

So basically this game is for US and Canada only.

I didn't know this before and I'm very disappointed, maybe I should have researched a bit further than the title of this thread.

If you think about how melee works in other Source engine games (HL2, TF2, L4D, etc), you always attack in the direction your mouse aims, so I doubt they can change that without modifying the engine a lot...

Also, guys, if you have a char on East, please let us know your alias!

Very true, I had forgotten it was built on the Source engine. I do not think it would be impossible to do, but it probably would require some workarounds and what not to get it working properly. You could probably check the direction of the camera and the direction of movement, then rotate the attack direction by the difference (camera is facing 0 degrees, character is facing 90 degrees, rotate the attack direction 90 degrees around the center axis of the character) but again, it would probably require quite a bit of work to do it efficiently on the source engine.

Character name is the same as my forum name BTW. I wont be on till later.

Same here.

The number of games having IP block is increasing rapidly :x

players have been asking for ip blocks by region for years, mainly in repsonse to chinese farmers and botters, and non english speakers from south america and europe. it's kind of shame though because some of the coolest players i've met in mmos have been from europe, and europeans who play mmo's tend to be fluent enough in english for text chat at the very least.

the post where they said the NA version was for only the us and canada excluding hawaii in alaska was pretty explicit, though there was some confusion and disbelief. my self included didn't truly believe it.

unfortunately there are several reasons for this kind of thing, such as german video game laws(not sure if any apply) and licensning and cash shop exchange rate issues, including taxes in countries where the game is available. the whole alaska and hawaii thing seems a little extreme though.

on the other hand you can always play through a us proxy, plenty of players in other region restricted games do this to play in their preferred region, and there a few different game oriented proxy services out there for a small monthly fee.

I'm sort of glad for the IP blocks to block out most gold farmers and tons of people who do not speak English, but its pretty crappy at the same time as it also blocks out other countries who speak English but are not the US.

Now at least if I try to talk to someone and they just look at me stupidly and ignore me I will know its just some idiot being an ass and not some Russian that doesn't understand English.

played this for about an hour last night. The game is very nice to look at and plays VERY well however, i am not certain about the instanced world situation that it shares with Guild Wars. Never did like that. However, its fun to play at least.

How exactly does that work? I haven't had time to experience it, but I know there are something like 200 channels on each server, but is the entire game world instanced by channel, or is each town instanced (like Guild Wars) split from the rest of the game world?

there is a instance for the town, and instance for the docks, and then you go on a boat so to say, which has a instanced lobby to wait for your team, and then each "battle" is an instance.

think of it like gw or a wow dungeon.

the two battles i did were really fast. the second one had an optional bonus objective to finish it in less than 5 minutes.

Wait, so will there be a European version some time in the future ? After all it's just finding a company to run the servers, the game is there to be played.

well apparently nexon, is slow at bringing the games they own the licenses to pubish to europe. according to the nexon forums at least. there are a few hoops for a publishers to bring a game to a different region, such as different laws and paying taxes to governments on cash shop transactions and such.

there is a site for vindcitus for europe though.

That is correct. There are different regions of Nexon and Nexon America is currently the one releasing this game, that's why its US and Canada only. The game has actually been out in Korea and Japan for a number of years under the name Mabinogi Heroes, and is just coming to North America now. Nexon Europe will release the game later in the year.

well i did some testing and I think mumble just doesn't like my computer,

i recorded this with the same headset as i was using last night and it sounds fine, but i still can't get any of my headsets to work correctly with mumble :/

which codec or ping or latency did you select in the setup wizard? it sounded like you were using the low quality high latency options or something more than anything else.

i don't remember seeing an option for anything like that

edit: i think i got it figured out :)

from what i understand each town has a bunch of channels and then when you leave from the docks (on a boat) your group is instanced into whatever mission you are doing

So am I reading this right, no point in us EU guys logging on?

From what I understand you guys won't even be able to log in. :(

Gotcha, so its basically just like GW in that aspect....I sort of liked that with GW, but it was kind of annoying not being able to pick up people out of town if you needed to. Its something I can deal with but it might make it less-fun than if it was open world. But destructible environments would be a bit more tricky in open world, as they would have to regenerate over time or something instead of simply get created when a party goes to an area.

Bei have you created the guild yet?

http://www.vindictuswiki.com/wiki/Guilds

they were reading some of the requirements for making a guild last night out loud in mumble

i guess we need a group of six, to go to some other town(not the starting town) and a million gold(in game currency).

then to level the guild we have to have guild only parties doing battles to gain points for it. if there's any non guild members in the party we won't get guild exp.

you can also make multi guild alliance for iirc 2million gold.

    • This is exactly why I keep saying we are not ready for human free self-driving. These little "bugs" are may seem like random one-offs. There was also the Waymo that drove between police with drawn guns and the suspect they were pointing them at. From a software perspective it is easy to understand how those extremely rare situations may not have been programed for, but that is the point. If AI needs to be told to watch out for every possible contingency, then it can never be successful. There will always be the possibility of a first encounter that the AI needs to understand to avoid.

    • Recycle Bin has been broken for literal YEARS now. The setting to delete files older than 30 days from the bin which is on by default doesn't even work. I have files older than 4 months in it and they are just there still...
