Notepad++ is a free (as in "free speech" and also as in "free beer") source code editor and Notepad replacement that supports several languages. Running in the MS Windows environment, its use is governed by GPL License.

Based on the powerful editing component Scintilla, Notepad++ is written in C++ and uses pure Win32 API and STL which ensures a higher execution speed and smaller program size. By optimizing as many routines as possible without losing user friendliness, Notepad++ is trying to reduce the world carbon dioxide emissions. When using less CPU power, the PC can throttle down and reduce power consumption, resulting in a greener environment.

This is probably the ugliest program I've ever seen. The program icon is hideous.

It is hideous... especially that icon and tabs. It needs to make use of native Windows widgets. I don't know of anything on the net for free with the functionality this app offer.

Thanks, upgrading now :)

And what program do you use, then?

I do use Notepad++, but it is probably the ugliest program I use on a regular basis. I remember an older version had a much nicer program icon, I'm not sure why the developer didn't keep it in.

Exactly. If only this program could look like Notepad, it would be perfect. It looks like a Linux app ported to Windows. I don't think it uses any native widgets at all, outside of the chrome.

Maybe I'm missing something but my program icon looks like this:

I don't see why you think it looks so bad.

Because I just don't find that low-quality, heavily pixelated icon looks very good on Windows 7 or matches in with the Aero theme.

I love notepad++, but that is just ridiculous ;). I hope they are being sarcastic :p
