Hi all, just to give some comments. I have a Omnia 7 and loving it. The screen is really great. HD7 screen display is really very dull compare to that. The only downside is the 8gb memory which filled up quite fast. So have to make a decision to see whether u all prefer storage space or screen. For me, i can live with 8gb. Staring at dull display is a big turn off.

Planning to pick Dell Venue Pro. It seems like the best option right now. It comes with expandable storage too + 4.1" Screen and that too AMOLED.

440 Pounds seems cheap, i hope its available in India soon. My only concern is that due to that sliding keyboard which I have no use for, it will be very thick width wise.

So the Omnia 7 doesn't have a microSD card slot like the Samsung Focus does? Isn't there a 16GB Omnia 7 model out there?

The 'fatness' of the Venue Pro is 14.7mm at its widest. This is compared to 14.2mm for the (android) HTC Desire Z (landscape slider). Sliders with a keyboard are thicker, just because there's more to pack in there, but they're hardly 'thick'. For comparison, the iPhone 4 is 9.3mm and the HD7 and Omnia 7 are both 11mm.

Nope. Omnia 8 doesn't have any microSD slot. During the time of purchase, the 16gb was not available. Don't know whether that exist or not thot.

It's weird because I tried the HD7 in the O2 shop and it looked very dull; however, my Mozart is far from dull. The screen - and how vibrant it is - is either better than the Zune HD or just as good as.

Your Mozart on Contract or PAYG? I really want to buy one on PAYG :p Dammit I just want to test my application! (Not that I could push an update for it if it were broken, even if I want too - it's nowhere near as broken as Microsoft's app submission system is at the moment :shifty: )

HD7 has a normal LCD screen, whereas Mozart has a Super LCD screen, so Mozarts would look quite a bit better =). Zune HD still has a much better contrast ratio though, mainly because OLED screens blacks are actually black, unlike LCDs due to their screen's backlight.

I now have a HTC Mozart

Nice. I really hope some shop here in Greece will get some WP7 devices soon, I don't want to be forced to import it from some outside source at this point.

If you're still not sorted with a handset come November 8th (when mine arrives), I'll happily deploy the XAP to my handset and run it through some testing. Of course you'll probably be sorted before then, but it's an open offer :)

HTC HD 7 is phone of my choice.

But I will wait for another 6 months before purchasing. May be something better comes along. Basically, I expect it to eliminate laptop requirement for me.

Whoop ^.^ Got an Omnia 7. Urgent question though guys (only because it's really annoying me :p ). Is there a way to stop your messenger contacts invading your Peoples list/phonebook, without unlinking your Live ID. I really, REALLY don;t need or want 100+ contacts in there who don't even have phone numbers. =/<img src="">

So I got a question about the Xbox Live features, the Xbox Live Extras App is free with WP7 or does it cost money (I already have an xbox live gold membership)? I'm switching from a Samsung Captivate to the HTC Surround on Nov 8 for the US release. I figured the OS is smoother than this Droid I'm on and equivalent to iOS smooth which I've recently ditched to enjoy my mobile phone enthusciasm again. I just need a phone that has smooth transitions like an iPhone minus the App Store junk that keeps us zoned in our phones. I hope this will satisfy me. Also, you think in the future WP7 would offer some kind of Access Point app or MyWi type app? It would be a nice feature to have for my new iPod Touch or future iPad WiFi only.

Which phones are tri or quad band btw? I want a phone that will work in the US and the EU since I tend to travel between to two from time to time.

There's contrast and then there's contrast.

OLED variants appear to have good contrast because they have completely black black, making the colors stand out. But in actual contrast and color quality th eOLED variants are lower quality than the better LCD's. They lack the levels of detail in that LCd's offer. it's kind of like using dynamic contrast, as long as you're not looing at the details(or lack thereof) it looks really good and vibrant.

It's free. I don't believe any WP7 handsets currently have tethering, although it isn't verboten by MS. It's up to carriers to do it, because it's kind of a carrier specific thing.

Things about Omnia 7 after a day of usage:

  • Holy moly it's bigger than I though :D It's actually bigger than my HD2 (well taller and thicker), despite the small screen. Anyone who's getting a Dell Venue Pro - be warned. That thing is actually going to be obnoxiously big and thick in your pocket.
  • It looks amazingly, ridiculously gorgeous on the SAMOLED screen. Even my application looks super awesome on it D:
  • F*****g pentile matrix :/. Honestly, I thought people were fluffing over nothing, but it's instantly noticeable. It's like looking at a badly dithered GIF a lot of the time.
  • I think these maybe be 65K colour screens - or an OS limitation at the moment. I'm seeing a lot of colour banding.
  • Samsung have the worst carrier specific apps out of the lot. It's like they haven't even tried. :/

And about Windows Phone 7
  • Smooth. Ridiculously smooth. Outclasses the iPhone imo.
  • Why, the helll, would I want *all* of my Windows Live Messenger contacts taking up my phonebook. Seriously? And hte only way to get rid of them is to delete them from Windows Live Messenger. Stupidness.
  • Choosing to only download Facebook contacts already on your phone only hides them from the peoples hub - try adding a number from the SMS app, and all those Facebook people who've put anything in the mobile number section on facebook (even those who write "er, NO!"), still show up. Grrr.
  • Can't view deleted texts. I don't even know how but I managed to delete an entire conversation of about 60 texts. And thats it. Never coming back. :/
  • Argh, why can't I trun off the camera shutter sound. It's so loud too :[
  • GPS is always off target.
  • Needs better Calendar scheduling

It hoesntly doesn't feel like any other phone I've used before. It's certainly a unique, and with an OLED display, and visually brilliant experience. And having the next item in the panorma pop out of the right side of the screen is an excllent idea - I gave the phone to my mother to look at - at she instantly scrolled over hte panorama to see what's going on on the right, no instruction necessary. Awesome design choice.

The Omnia 7 was going to be much choice as well but it seems it doesn't have a hidden microSD slot like the HD7 does, so if you get 8GB you're stuck with 8GB, and that's a too little for me going forward, I might switch to the Optimux 7 with 16GB, doesn't have the great screen the samsung does, but I hear it's got good battery life and comes in a 16GB version.

As for the OS, I'm sure updates will start coming in time so I don't worry about missing features and or little things that don't work quite right atm. I also don't use FB so I don't expect crazy contact overload. I want it more for Xbox to game and Zune for my media needs than any of the social stuff, I basically do all my social networking through IRC (old school yes) and some WLM on the side, that's it.
