Mac OS X Lion Discussion

The cursor won't turn "vectorized" until you click it once on the desktop or any other application (except System Preferences). You don't have to quit System Preferences, just make it unfocussed.

Are we talking screenzoom here or what? Cause I can't get it to do a darn thing. :p

I've noticed, though, that some cursors, such as the resizing handles when taking a screenshot via CMD+Shift+4, are still heavily pixelated, and it shows up from time to time in Safari. Has this occurred for you? I suppose doing a full system logout may fix the issue. If not, probably just a bug.

It's a Developer Preview, not everything is done yet.

Apple even made the NeXTstep-style camera icon you see when doing CMD+Shift+4+Space a vector, as well. However, I did find a bug: Immediately after taking a screenshot, the cursor goes back to being pixelated. Clearly a bug, but you can fix it by clicking on an unfocused object, as .Neo pointed out.

EDIT: Okay, logging out of the system doesn't fix the pixelation, so it's obviously a bug. Seems only the main cursor and the text selection cursor are fully vectorized. I'd get a screenshot of the vectorized camera and finger icon, but I can't figure out how to take screenshots of the CMD+Tab screen and the CMD+Shift+4+Space screen, or even how to get a cursor in a screenshot.

How can you change anything on the launchpad?

It still shows icons from programs i removed.

How can you update the launchpad or remove the old icons?

It shows the program icon with a questionmark behind it.

Right now, you can?t, and it doesn?t matter because it?s a developer preview. Application developers don?t need a working Launchpad to develop apps.

Launchpad needs a lot of work. Lots of potential though

Found out, i can move old/removed icons to a separate page...

Tried dragging it to the trash, tried any key combination... how does this work on a ipad?

Maybe the same method works

On the iPad/iPhone you have to press and hold an icon to go into "Editing mode" where you can drag them to different positions and screens. When in this mode every installed app has an X you can tap to uninstall it.

Yea, that was the first thing I tried until I realized that when you click and hold, it only picks up the current icon. I imagine they're going to make it a "drag to trash" action since the dock shows up while Launchpad is enabled.

To delete an app from launchpad, all you have to do is press cmd+ctrl+option key at the same time then click on the app. Hope this helps.

Now the question remains: How does one delete a folder in Launchpad? When deleting all apps from a folder an empty folder is left behind. Restarting the Dock won't get rid of it. :/

Guys, what do you think'll happen if I reinstall Snow Leopard directly over the top of Lion? All my user settings should be preserved... right? Don't have time for an Erase and Install right now.

Yup. Be warned: Many popular third-party applications don't work properly, if at all, on it.

I'm talking about in reverse, I installed Lion over Snow Leopard, now I want to go back to Snow Leopard. Would have worked but the disk image I have is SL 10.6.0 and my MBP Shipped with 10.6.3 so it won't boot from it! D'oh! Any idea if I can integrate the Lion Drivers into the Snow Leopard DMG?

Drag an app into the empty folder and then drag it back out. Poof, gone. :p

Apple likes putting us to work with Launchpad right?

So do any of you guys think we'll see the App Store window style go system-wide in Mac OS X Lion? Or is this pretty much it?

I think this might be it. The App Store style toolbar doesn't necessarily suit every app, so I think it's going to be pretty much up to the developer.

I'm wondering what else they're going to do to Safari. I know they've isolated the rendering process and sandboxed it (and updated WebKit [though not to WebKit 2] in the process), but I feel like there's more that they're going to do to the actual interface.

It's possible. I think the next build will have quite a few changes in it, based on what I've read in the seed notes.

Has anyone else had issues with audio corruption when plugging headphones/speakers into the audio out jack?

i can listen just fine with the built in speakers, but when i plug in headphones or speakers the audio turns into random scratches, and when i unplug the problem persists until i reboot.

can't seem to figure out what the problem is

    • NVIDIA officially supports Ubuntu, as linked above with the GeForce NOW Hands on I did in collaboration with Paul Hill.
    • TO be clear I am not running linux today, however I keep thinking about it. And I want to make sure there are minimal obstacles if I decide to make that switch in the coming months.
    • Yes, I actually glossed over the Linux part from the OP. You could always go for a 9070 XT and if you really want to play Ray Traced games in the future, GeForce Now is pretty damn good on Linux https://www.neowin.net/news/nvidias-native-geforce-now-app-for-linux-bridges-the-gaming-gap-hands-on/
