Hey everyone!

This is going to be the official Fusion OS thread, and the only official one. Fusion has come a long way since its last appearance in June. We are working on creating a stunning interface with our very talented Lead Graphics Designer, Cosmin. We believe the way you interact with an OS is essential to its ease of use, and overall usability. We will be ready to release an alpha build of Fusion OS in 1-2 weeks which will contain and almost final User Interface. Also if you want to learn more, and become a member of the Fusion OS Development team please visit http://www.fusionos.net/ and sign up there. We will have much more news to come. Specifically we are looking for Programmers to help with this project, but, if you feel you can contribute your time, or abilities in a different way please don?t hesitate to contact us. You will be hearing much more in the next few weeks, and we will be posting about our Milestone Achievements, and information about our upcoming OS. Thanks for reading!

This porject is based on Linux. But Fusion OS aims to create a beautiful and consistent User Experience where the average user will not even have to touch the command line. The dekstop has HEAVY modifications to it. It is based on Gnome, however we will be going a different direction with it, all the gnome branding is removed, and we have cleaned up menus, and are aiming to created a seamless, and consistent User Interface. I will post a screenshot soon, of the control panel, and current desktop, but keep in mind that it is not finished yet, and that is why there is a 1-2 week period before the Alpha will be available. Like I said before we will be removing individual branding from built in applications, and developing them as our own, no longer recieving outdated, or no updates from the individuals who creat the software, and rebranding everything as Fusion OS. Things like Tomboy Notes for example will be modified, and rebranded as simply "Notes" or "Take Notes", we will be doing this across the whole OS to create a very tightly integrated feel. All the updates for the OS will be in one place, eliminating outdated programs also.

- RKWJ25

PS: This project is not developed by Neowin, as said in a post above..

Methinks someone is missing the point of open source, and just rebranding for the sake of it.

Well then tell me something would you rather be on an OS that seems "patchworked" together? Full of outdated packages? We are not just rebranding "for the sake of it" we are doing it to create an itegrated and consistent user interface. And as for Gnome we are not just rebranding it, we are not branding it at all we are removing the branding, and are going to separate from the gnome project itself to develop upon it, our own desktop environment for Fusion.

OK, well, having looked at your site it doesn't exactly seem promising. What it does seem like is someone attempting to bite off a hell of a lot more than they can chew.

How about creating your own OS not based on Linux? as in make it all yourselves not just change the user interface on an already made OS.

Well obliviously its not just me doing this, and you can think what you want. By the way the site is not finished yet I think you probably could have figured that out by looking at it? I also don't see how you can make that judgement when you haven't even seen screen shots or anything of the project yet? Why dont you wait until the Alpha comes out give that a try and then give your opinion.

Hmm, interesting, looking forward to seeing what comes of this.

Thanks! We will be posting much more very soon! Also thinking about posting a FAQ.

Do we really need another Linux distro? I mean really whats going to set this one apart from the rest? why not just put time into helping a already developed distro? Don't take this wrong I just think if your going to bring a new distro to the table it needs much more than a new modified UI.

When you provide such screen shots, or even a modicum of information beyond "we're debranding everything", I'll reassess my position. Until such a time, my opinion remains.

Anything other than an obvious mockup?

Like it says in the origional post, we will be posting our progress, and screenshots as they come. We have a about 45% complete UI as of now, and we will be ready to show everyone the near final UI in 1-2 weeks. The UI for the Alpha/Beta build will be 95% complete, the other 5% will be for suggestions, bug fixes, improvements, other elements etc. If you, or anyone have suggestions, or questions please post them!

Next time it would be a better idea to start a thread when you actually can show us something. Right now it's all rather vague and the website isn't telling us much either.

We want to start this topic to show everyone some development, FAQ, QnA, Previews, Alpha/Beta Build, etc., etc. I will be uploading some FAQ's very soon, and I will talk to the team about uploading a pic of the OS's current state, but we want to build some hype also. Dont want to let the cat out the bag too soon. ;)

Your website is painfully slow, its not going to handle more than a few people trying to access it at the same time, once you release the Alpha. Consider posting mirrored links to the download in here rather than your site, once it is released.

Yeah, I thought so also I am going to contact my hosting company. I thoguht it was just my connection at first (its been pretty slow lately) but apparently others are experiencing it also. Thanks for the feedback!

    • Weekend PC Game Deals: GTA, Borderlands, Kingdom Come, Stray and more by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe Weekend PC Game Deals is where the hottest gaming deals from all over the internet are gathered into one place every week for your consumption. So kick back, relax, and hold on to your wallets The Epic Games Store has two more games to claim this week as part of its ongoing freebie offers. Nova Lands and Tattoo Tycoon are the latest titles you can grab. Nova Lands is an open-world factory-building experience that has players exploring its lands, fighting back against alien critters that oppose the mass resource usage. Meanwhile, Tattoo Tycoon has you taking over a rundown shop and slowly building it and a customer base up in the tattoo industry. The giveaways end on July 16, which is when Echo Generation and Luto will become the next freebies. The July Humble Choice offer was revealed earlier this week, bringing another refreshed eight-game selection to jump into. The July selection is carrying Sea of Stars: Sunset Edition, TUNIC, Neon White, Police Simulator: Patrol Officers, Drop Duchy - Complete Edition, Sledders, Dicefolk, and Our Adventurer Guild to keep as Steam keys. The $15 bundle gives you all eight games from this month's Choice selection. The month-long promotion will come to an end on August 4, giving you ample time to decide on whether you want the titles. Humble also brought out a couple of regular game bundles this week. Up first is the simply named Narrative Bundle, this carries 12 games with a $10 price tag. The games include Roadwarden, White Shadows, Gone Home, Neo Cab, The Darkside Detective: A Fumble in the Dark, The Stillness of the Wind, and The Procession to Calvary. At the same time, made for co-op fans, Squad Goals bundle carries PlateUp, TMNT Splintered Fate, Murky Divers, KeyWe, Kitchen Wars, Phogs, Human Fall Flat, Content Warning, and Kirtter: Defend Together for $10. That's it for our pick of this weekend's PC game deals, and hopefully, some of you have enough self-restraint not to keep adding to your ever-growing backlogs. As always, there are an enormous number of other deals ready and waiting all over the interwebs, as well as on services you may already subscribe to if you comb through them, so keep your eyes open for those, and have a great weekend.
    • Thanks for reminding me that I need to cancel the subscription.
    • I hope there is a way to opt out of this. Not because I'm against the idea per-se, but because I'm in the UK and I don't have a TV license. For non UK people you need a TV license to watch any live broadcasts from a media producer (Jo Blogs' YouTube/Twitch stream doesn't count). Because I'm 100% sure that Netflix will provide viewing figures to TV Licensing I don't want to accidentally find myself requiring a license (about £150 a year) because I clicked on the wrong thing.
