New Battlefield to be announced on Friday

November 3rd, 2010 @ 09:40

By Johnny Cullen

EA?s set to drop the bass on Friday after confirming it will reveal an all-new Battlefield game.

The news was dropped by Easy, the lot behind Battlfield Heroes, and its GM Ben Cousins.

Cousins was keen to stress the game was not ? repeat, not ? Battlefield 3, however.

?Flying to London later today to show a new, unannounced #Battlefield game to the press. News goes public on Friday. (NOT #BF3)?

Whatever it is, it?s not going to be called Battlefield Assault anyways.

?Just to confirm ? I am NOT going to London to announce any game called ?Battlefield Assault?. That is just a URL EA picked up.?

And if you think it?s going to be a console port of Heroes, wrong again. Cousins says the title is ?completely new.?

So there. It?s not Battlefield 3 ? it?s reveal will come shortly, it seems ? but a new Battlefield it is.

Information on Battlefield 1943 for PC coming ?in the not so distant future?

November 2nd, 2010 @ 18:25

By Stephany Nunneley

EA has said information on the PC version of Battlefield 1943 will be coming in ?the not too distant future?.

Speaking with Eurogamer, EA Games VP Patrick Soderlund said the PC version of Digital Illusions multiplayer shooter promised it was still under development.

?We are obviously working on the PC platform and we?ll be ready to talk about that shortly, he said in the much quoted interview. ?You should see information around the PC platform in the not too distant future.?

Back in September, the EA Store got gamers hopes up when it listed the game as being for sale, but apparently, it was just a posting error.

Hopefully, it won?t be much longer, or it might win the vaporware title of the year now that Duke Nukem is definitely coming out.

Battlefield 1943 was released on consoles last year.

:woot:

I don't think DICE are involved with this one.

That would be a first. As far as I'm aware, DICE was involved with every Battlefield game since Battlefield 1942 in '02. I guess that would rule out a sequel to Bad Company 2 or Battlefield 2142.

meh, if it's not BF3 it doesn't matter. :(

Battlefield 3 was already announced (with a reveal coming soon). As for this game, my best guess is a Battlefield Heroes-type game for XBLA/PSN.

As expected, EA today revealed a new game in the Battlefield series, and as expected, it's part of the publishers Play4Free line of PC games that let you, well, play for free. Battlefield Play4Free pits the forces of the United States and Russia against each other in a 32-player online combat game for the PC that, like its "free" predecessor Battlefield Heroes, won't cost you a pretty penny to download or start playing.

Wait one minute... that looks like Strike At Karkand!!!!!!!

Regardless, count me in to check it out, the starting price is good for me. laugh.gif

Yup

I got to play the game on Karkand ? a map slimmed and toned a smidge since its previous inception as Strike at Karkand in Battlefield 2. The focus is quicker, dirtier scrapes. The tweaked map?s shorter engagement distances reduced standoffish play, but cover and assailable high points gave enough tactical depth to reward teamwork. In short, it?s Battlefield 2 that runs from a browser.

Considering it is my favorite MP Map ever made, I knew it had to be it, but thanks for the confirmation. I will literally be checking it out just to play Karkand again.

I knew that map had to be returning somehow, and I am a bit disappointed it has not made it's triumphant return using the new frostbite engine, but actually I think they probably might have even saved it just for this, as that map alone will more then likely entice some people to play it just for the nostalgia / great map factor.

Just signed up for the closed Beta so here's to hoping. Considering I have actually been part of almost every other EA Free to Play Beta, I am hoping that trend continues.

    • Nah. They'll milk the current generation in terms of design - controllers, consoles, but no meaningful hardware improvements. This is one reason why people aren't buying Xbox hardware - it's stagnant.
    • Funny, but I didn't had the issue. All PC's at work are Dell and we had the culprit version of Support Assist for about 2 weeks until we got the new one. No problem at all. And for checking you can also use Dell Command Update, no need to search in windows settings. Just check the Upgrade History.
    • YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    • Apple are scared of their customers! They have built a brand over the years of "it just works out of the box", but that slows innovation. Samsung's master stroke was the Galaxy Ultra: "Let's cram everything into one handset, make it so stupid only real nerds will love it, some of the features will work, some won't, but the audience will have such a high tolerance they won't care". Apple has no such device and so they are constantly worrying these days about the fallout of creating a new experience that customers might not like. I know it is often cited the reason they don't build a touchscreen Mac Book is they don't want to cannibalise the the iPad market, but I think it's equally cold feet after the criticism Microsoft receive trying to make a touch compatible desktop OS
