[Official] Battlefield: Play4Free

I heard there are already hacks in the beta. Though that should be no surprise considering the MoH and BC2 betas were both ruined by hackers. I don't really get the purpose of hacking in a beta game..and I don't get why DICE hasn't done anything about it. Why do they not have PB enabled in their betas?

I love it so far, but there are graphical slowdowns for no reason at certain points. Also, why are you forced to name each soldier? Why can't I have a soldier for each class and have them all be "Ayepecks"? I started out using a class I hate, and now that one will be Ayepecks even though I'll never use him. What's the point?

Got a key thanks to one of the EA guys (who have been really rather nice and supportive of the anti-cheat movement, which is more than I can say about Activision...), looking forward to really starting to play the game. Just remember those who have keys - you are under a pretty restrictive NDA :(

Biggest two annoyances so far (these have already been revealed, so pretty sure there's no NDA violation):

1. Not being able to change your character class (or change mid-game between your characters), and not being able to have multiple characters listed under a single persona.

2. EA has apparently said they have no plans to support widescreen monitors via Twitter. So the HUD is always going to be F'ed up if you have a widescreen monitor.

Other than that, I love it. Think it's quite amazing, really, and a great service. I highly recommend it when it comes out of beta. It's pretty polished as it is, but there are some obvious bugs.

Not sure how I feel about it yet, glad they carried over some of the aspects like spotting, etc., but definitely feels like a free game, and all it really did was made me want to launch BF2... But I definitely felt at home, not the best score and my team was pretty bad...

This is seriously pathetic, they've regressed back into their bf2 mindset. Its ****ing 2010, how can you release a game that does not support widescreen properly? Especially WHEN THEIR NEWER GAMES ALREADY SUPPORT IT.

And those two reasons are the reason it'll fail.

Any gamer who is serious about gaming has a wide screen monitor.

I have played maybe 4 games with it, it locks up all the time, and it freezes up for about five minutes before I can even see the menu :p When playing it runs pretty smooth every once in a while there are some lag spikes which make sniping a challange however, overall its a rather good game especially for being free.

    • JetBrains launches Rider 2026.2 EAP 5, bringing several AI improvements by David Uzondu JetBrains has released the fifth EAP version of Rider 2026.2, bringing a faster startup flow with the new non-modal startup screen and quality-check hooks for Claude Code and Codex. In the latest EAP release, Rider now has newly bundled "quality-check" hooks that run background tests on code edits before the external agent proceeds. For example, after Claude Code rewrites a class, Rider immediately triggers a PostToolUse hook that analyzes the code for syntax errors and formatting warnings. It then passes those findings back to the model as feedback, allowing the agent to fix its own output before finalizing the task. If Rider detects compilation errors, the IDE prevents the agent from treating the task as complete, while minor formatting warnings simply help guide the model toward better output. The "Explain with AI" feature can now tackle tricky build errors directly from the console, helping .NET developers who frequently wrestle with multi-targeting failures and MSBuild errors. JetBrains introduced Explain with AI back in the 2024.1 release cycle. With this feature, instead of forcing developers to copy long diagnostics into a separate chat window, Rider now lets you trigger these explanations directly from the error source. In similar EAP news, JetBrains recently opened the first EAP for IntelliJ IDEA 2026.2, with features that appeal to both those who are into AI-assisted coding and those who prefer "classic" manual development. For manual developers, the release adds revamped dependency completion for Maven and Gradle build scripts, which pulls data directly from the local cache to suggest relevant versions. It also brings the Spring Debugger update, displaying security indicators next to endpoints to visualize secured routes during runtime. In addition to database migration tools for Flyway and Liquibase, this build introduces a Hibernate debugger that shows the exact SQL or HQL queries that the framework plans to execute, letting developers jump directly to the Java code that triggered them.
    • I have updated my Series 9 Watch so I assume there is either a mistake in what was said, or as suggested - the new AI feature set isn’t supported on anything other than those listed above.
