Differences between Hiren's BootCD versions

Question

I work in a computer repair shop, and we use Hiren's to break passwords on customer's computers. Their are Hiren CDs all over the place of various versions, and although I would think that latest is better, sometimes newer CDs won't have the right drivers to boot, and older ones will. And certain versions don't even have the password breaker, while older ones do, which is even stranger.

I have to admit, the entire place is really messy, and when I say CDs everywhere, I mean that literally. And most of them aren't in any cases, and our work benches are made of some raw wood product, so they are also terribly scratched up. So I'm not even sure if this is due to the versioning, or because our CDs are bad. I was thinking I might download a copy, and keep some CDs in a separate case at work for my use only, but I wanted to make sure that I get a version, or set of versions, that would cover all the drivers I'll need to boot off computers ranging from ancient WinBook laptops to the latest dell gaming rigs, and be able to clear passwords.

Does anybody know about this?

As of version 11, Hirens removed all illegal software. He's replaced some of the programs with comparable freeware. Some people have made custom ISOs with some of the programs included in the older versions with the updated programs included in 11.0+. So either stick to pre-11 or made or find a custom version of 11.0+.

hm, but even 10.5 didn't have it, if I remember correctly... Also, password breakers are legal so long as it is done by the owner or with their consent. Were the breakers it used commercial software?

Also, that still wouldn't explain why some newer versions can't even boot, as opposed to their older counterparts.

Password removal tools aren't illegal but the ones Hirens used weren't free.

I have no idea why newer versions aren't booting. I use Hirens all the time and haven't trouble with booting. Some newer PCs have problems with specific tools on Hirens like MHDD or memtest. In that case, I just put in a standalone disc and it works.

    • Salesforce to acquire Fin, formerly Intercom, for over $3 billion by David Uzondu Image via DepositPhotos.com Salesforce today announced that it has reached an agreement with customer support software company Fin to buy the company for around $3.6 billion. Salesforce expects the transaction to close in the fourth quarter of its fiscal year 2027, and the acquisition will not change its financial guidance previously announced on May 27. Marc Benioff, CEO of Salesforce, in its press release, claimed that acquiring the startup gives Salesforce an immediate AI agent that resolves support tickets across email, WhatsApp, SMS, and Slack: You might know Fin by its former name, Intercom. If you have ever been on a website or inside a mobile app and noticed a little chat bubble widget floating in the bottom right corner of your screen, often featuring a friendly face and a message like, "Hi! How can we help you today?" you were almost certainly looking at Intercom. Intercom became Fin just last month, transforming itself into an "AI-first" platform that handles customer issues with little need for humans to intervene. The new name originates from the company's highly successful AI customer service agent, which it launched way back in 2023. This digital assistant supposedly resolves about 76% of customer service volume end-to-end on its own, so the business rebranded to match its primary software tool. Fin's new owners, Salesforce, went on an acquisition spree over the last few years, and some of them you might recognize, like its 2020 $27.7 Billion acquisition of Slack. The last few months saw the enterprise giant buy several startups, including m3ter, Momentum, Cimulate, and Contentful. Salesforce said that when the Fin deal pulls through, customers will "deploy AI agents across" various service operations, which will complement Agentforce, the platform that enables businesses to deploy customizable autonomous digital workers.
