Skyrim should definitely trump BF3 for GOTY, no doubt.

It is simply amazing, i cannot get enough of it!

Does anybody know how to recharge magic weapons? especially on a regular basis? I have the Nightingale bow, and its out of charge and feels quite a lot less cool now :(

Same as in Oblivion, you need to use captured souls.

Soul stones. Petty, lesser, common, greater, grand, dark. You can find them all over the place in most dungeons and a few shops. There is a lady in Riften's castle (name escapes me at the moment) that sells them and you get an amusing conversation and a quest when you first talk to her, too.

Is there morality in this game? Just curious,

those of you that did the "In My Time of Need" side quest, what did you choose to do with Saadia? I ended up turning her over to Kematu for her treason.

AFAIK there is no karma system, nor should there be. There are no right choices. Only what you think is right.

For example, I thought that killing a priest to consume his flesh was right. They always say your first bite is the most memorable... I hunger for that bloody, succulent meat at the thought of it. Since, I have eaten many bandits and imperial soldiers. None of them quite compare to the rich taste of an Arkay worshiper.

I just started playing a stealth character after trying a basher. There is something so satisfying about silent killing with a bow, especially in groups. My biggest problem is that I need to slow down. I rush through conversations and books. I need to relax my mind and get involved int the story!

Ok is there a way I can tell for sure if Lydia is dead or not? I was running through a tomb and all the sudden she wasn't following me and some undead came up from behind. I couldn't find her body though(she has my dragon bones) and she is pretty freaking tough. I fast traveled to white run after I finished but she wasn't there. Unless I can find another companion quickly I might reload and lose a few hours if she is really gone.

Since I got her for becoming Thane can I get it again?

Dear god I love this game! Finished getting my smithing to 100 last night, and now the money is rolling in, up to 24,000G! Took about 4 hours, was not hard at all. Kind of actually felt underwhelming, but still awesome. I just finished crafting my Dragonscale armor about an hour ago, and went out and got a couple more scales for tempering it. I decided to go up the alchemy tree to get better Blacksmith potions, and also got a Blacksmith necklace that increases my items by 17%. Does anyone know what level alchemy has to be to combine 4-items? I don't want to invest to much into alchemy, perk wise just for smithing potions. I only got 32% potions right now, that I can make.

Last thing I need to find is a damn Daedra heart. Been looking forever for one.

If she isn't showing back up after quick travelling a couple times, she more than likely died. I try to always make sure she is with me through dungeons (she gets hung up a lot and slows me down, but I don't want to lose her.) I've lost her twice and had to reload. I really need to get her resist gear, because when fighting dragons, she gets stomped.

At Whiterun, in the bar, there is a lady sitting at the table straight from the entrance near the back, who will want to fist fight you. If you win she will become your companion. I used her for a little, until I got Lydia.

I don't think she lives your house like Lydia does though (considering Lydia is your housecarl.)

By far most epic defeat of a dragon yet just happened! Travelled to Morthal to visit the alchemy shop and a dragon came down to the village to attack. After a couple arrows and some guard help he landed on the bridge. I ran to him and started slashing when the game went into third person, he went to try and eat me and my character jumped ontop of his head, and with him thrashing about, I got to lay into him with my axes, and delivered the final blow with an ax into his face. Than I hopped off his head and claimed my reward.

Dude that is the one thing I promised myself before I started, that I would take my time and enjoy everything - especially the lore. I kick myself because I sped through Fallout 3.

So I am getting the books and reading them, I am not pushing the main quest along at all (STILL finding stuff to do in Whiterun), and I am not using horses or fast travel. Last one might be a bit much but I fast traveled a lot in FO3 and missed sooooo much.

My only thing now is keeping track of the story and all the surroundings. It's a lot of information. Anyone have a site for TES lore and, especially, regarding the provinces?

Dude... I tremble to think how much time I've spent reading books. lol

But hey, someone took the time to write the stories, I might as well

take the time to actually read them.

Like half of them, if not most, are from Oblivion and might even be from their previous games.

They weren't written specifically for Skyrim.

Warning to all, before you go into Volunruud, be high level, because the boss is very tough and has a mage partner. Dragon word for Life Aura is in there though.

And note to self, disarming shout doesn't just make you put your weapon away. You throw that bitch on the ground! Easy way to lose a very good weapon :(

She most likely is. Check either your house in Whiterun, or the Jarl's hall dinner table if you don't have the house yet. I, for one, could not possibly live without her, because she is my tank and storage lol.

If you become Thane of any of the other 4 main holds, you receive another housecarl.

A few of them pertaining to the events in Oblivion and before Skyrim are. Including some books by Cancelmo, a living scientist on the Dwemer.

I lost my ebony sword when doing the amulet of gauldmir or however it's spelt quest, the boss at the end disarmed me..I found it, but he did again and couldn't find it anywhere. Luckily I found that a fine skyforge steel sword is better anyway! :D

Here's a couple of screenshots since I've been playing with the SkyrinPref.INI file.

You can barely see the guy walking down the mountain with a torch in the distance,

the the building further away.

Note how clear the water is. SO nice.

Two moments that have made me chuckle so far:

First one I was fighting a dragon on a town, guards and locals helping out. He was a tough bugger and it took a couple of moments, but we got him. Literally 2 seconds later (hadn't even got the dragon soul yet) a guard walks past me and says something like "You shouldn't be walking around with your weapon drawn, makes me uneasy". HELLO?!?!? I just saved your crummy town from a frikking DRAGON!

Second one, I'm doing a dungeon with my companion guy (Derkeethus). I'm a pretty good sneak and so I don't set off traps. He's not as good so he does. So I'm wandering around and realise he's not following me. I backtrack a bit and find he's stuck at a trap. It's one of those spiked gates that swings round and knocks you back. Every time he steps forward he hits the trap release and gets knocked back. Every time. Poor fella.

Loving this game, and very happy that my decidedly average PC (Core2 and nVidia 260) can play it at full res 1920x1200 high. I've knocked the settings down to 4x from 8x to get just a little more breathing room.

So does anyone know what kind of skills I should be concentrating on as an archer type character? I guess Archery/Sneaking and Light Armour? I do find it very hard in fights as soon as they get up close (after 2 shots), I'm then kind of screwed and I just melt. I was thinking dual wield daggers, but I tried to bind them both to a key, but that didn't work, and now each one is on button 2,3... but they just override each other in my main hand... I have to go into my favourites and manually do it, annoying.

Ran into my first dragon outside (apart from the story line one), it melted me and my horse in 2 breathes, wasn't fun.... Speaking of my horse... is there anyway to counteract the steroids he was given when young? I jump off my horse to when being attacked, before I know anything he's killing the attacker giving me only one arrow hit before it's dead, doesn't help my leveling skills.

I do like the openness of the game, but sometimes I feel like I need a helping hand in where to go, which reminds me, how can I tell which is my main story line quest?

This topic is now closed to further replies.

    • Rufus 4.15.2393 Beta 2 by Razvan Serea Rufus is a small utility that helps format and create bootable USB flash drives, such as USB keys/pendrives, memory sticks, etc. Despite its small size, Rufus provides everything you need! Oh, and Rufus is fast. For instance it's about twice as fast as UNetbootin, Universal USB Installer or Windows 7 USB download tool, on the creation of a Windows 7 USB installation drive from an ISO (with honorable mention to WiNToBootic for managing to keep up). It is also marginally faster on the creation of Linux bootable USBs from ISOs. A non-exhaustive list of Rufus supported ISOs is available here. It can be especially useful for cases where: you need to create USB installation media from bootable ISOs (Windows, Linux, UEFI, etc.) you need to work on a system that doesn't have an OS installed you need to flash a BIOS or other firmware from DOS you want to run a low-level utility Rufus 4.15.2393 Beta 2 changelog: Add RISC-V 64 support to UEFI:NTFS Improve the guards for using the "silent" option Improve the ability to cancel during write retries Improve progress reporting for compressed image extraction Fix unrestricted XML entity expansion and integer overflow in ezxml parser (courtesy of @esadowski4) [GHSA-55r2-34wg-8mv9] Fix "silent" Windows installation failing at 75% in most cases [#2960] Fix a crash during boot when using UEFI:NTFS on Snapdragon X based ARM64 platforms [#2934] Fix the first WUE option always being checked by default [#2965] Fix an infinite loop when using Windows ISOs that contain multiple WIMs Fix "Enable runtime UEFI media validation" checkbox not always being properly enabled Other WUE improvements/fixes for OneDrive removal and username validation (with thanks to @christian8641) [#2984, #2991] Download: Rufus 4.15 Beta 2 | 1.9 MB (Open Source) Links: Rufus Home Page | Project Page @GitHub | Screenshot Get alerted to all of our Software updates on Twitter at @NeowinSoftware
    • Tixati 3.43 by Razvan Serea Tixati is a free and easy to use BitTorrent client featuring detailed views of all seed, peer, and file transfer properties. Also included are powerful bandwidth charting and throttling capabilities, and a full DHT implementation. Tixati is one of the most advanced and flexible BitTorrent clients available. And unlike many other clients, Tixati contains NO SPYWARE, NO ADS, and NO GIMMICKS. Tixati portable version is meant to run on a USB flash drive or other portable media. It stores all its configuration files in the same folder as the executable binary files, and all file paths are stored in a format relative to the program executable folder. It is important you do not delete the "tixati_portable_mode.txt" file within the executables folder. This file is what triggers Tixati to run in portable mode. (The executable binaries are actually the same as the standard edition binaries.) When running the portable edition from a USB flash drive, especially one that is formatted in FAT16/FAT32, you may experience some lag when initially loading a new transfer. This is because initializing and allocating large files on flash-based media consumes a greater amount of time and resources compared to a conventional hard-drive. Tixati has the following features: detailed views of all aspects of the swarm, including peers, pieces, files, and trackers support for magnet links, so no need to download .torrent files if a simple magnet-link is available super-efficient peer choking/unchoking algorithms ensure the fastest downloads peer connection encryption for added security full DHT (Distributed Hash Table) implementation for trackerless torrents, including detailed message traffic graphs and customizable event logging advanced bandwidth charting of overall traffic and per-transfer traffic, with separate classification of protocol and file bytes, and with separate classification of outbound traffic for trading and seeding highly flexible bandwidth throttling, including trading/seeding proportion adjustment and adjustable priority for individual transfers and peers bitfield graphs that show the completeness of all downloaded files, what pieces other peers have available, and the health of the overall swarm customizable event logging for each download, and individual event logs for all peers within the swarm expert local file management functions which allow you to move files to a different partition even while downloading is still in progress 100% compatible with the BitTorrent protocol Windows and Linux-GTK native versions available Tixati 3.43 changelog: Several major DHT improvements Added • Zed 1.7.2 has landed with updated OpenCode models, bug fixes and other improvements by David Uzondu Zed 1.7.2 recently landed on the stable release channel, bringing a host of AI-related features including automatic context compaction and settings-based skill management, along with other things like better Markdown preview rendering and custom git commands in the graph view. Starting with the AI stuff, the developers introduced "/compact", a command that basically summarizes your conversation history on demand. This tool prevents your active chat window from hitting token limits by compressing older parts of the dialogue into a brief overview. In addition to that, the team relocated skill management to the settings UI, improving how the application communicates errors regarding those skills, and updated the OpenCode model roster to support DeepSeek V4 Flash, MiniMax M3, Qwen 3.7 Plus, and Nemotron 3 Ultra Free. External agent users can also monitor context window cost metrics and delete individual sessions directly from their history. Right-clicking ref labels in the git graph now opens a context menu that runs different actions against selected targets, kind of how VS Code does it. Here are some of the bug fixes this new release brings: The active agent fails to auto-select when creating a new git worktree. A scrollbar unexpectedly appears on wrapped code blocks in the agent chat. Collapse indicators for project headers appear when performing sidebar searches. Bracketed ellipsis title prefixes fail to show the ellipsis icon properly. Project icons render incorrectly in the recent projects picker. Diff hunk controls appear inside non-editable commit view multibuffers. The software update button hangs indefinitely on the downloading stage. Restoring an agent terminal in a remote project triggers a sudden crash. Splitting a pane that contains an active commit view causes a crash. Linux Wayland freezes when trying to read the clipboard from laggy external apps. Zed is a "newish" code editor trying to break the massive stronghold VS Code has on the developer community. Funny enough, the editor was created by former GitHub employees who worked on the Atom text editor (which Microsoft killed in 2022, several years after it bought GitHub). The project officially hit version 1.0 back in April, introducing platform parity for Windows and Linux alongside deep support for DeepSeek-V4-Pro.
    • 26H2 absolutely will support ARM Windows just not on devices that came with 26H1. This is evident by the fact I am running 26H2, which on my MacBook Neo and Surface Pro 12 (inch), within a VM.
