Just saw this, great chart, dunno if some info is off or not like the RAM for the Dell but the dimensions and stuff seem spot on etc. Check it out.

Neat chart, somethings do seem wrong though. Like, for example, it says the surround has a SLCD screen but tbh I couldn't make out any difference between my HD7 and the surround screen.

So either it was just me, my HD7 has a SLCD screen or the Surround just uses a regular TFT.

Why ? led backlight don't affect PQ.

the graph should have been in a matrix form to more easily see the differences though, well some of the stuff is handy the way they did it, but it should have been a matrix chart to. And they'r emissing some stuff like wether some screens are penTile or not, then again, all Amoled's are penTile.

the whole point of making it that way was for it to be a visual comparsion instead of the usual numbers and dimensions of the matrix style charts. and yea its missing a few things, like the venue pro has a different Ram size now. i made that image before the phones came out so not all the info i had was correct and i havnt had the time to update it yet, there not enough hours in the day unfortunatly!

I'd wager the Surround uses the same screen as the Trophy, and I compared the Trophy with the Mozart a few days back, and the Mozart's screen did have deeper blacks at least, and marginally different colour reproduction. So I'd say Mozart is the only HTC device to use SLCD, and therefore the only WP7 device with SLCD, which is easier to believe as HTC are only using 3.7" SLCD panels in their Android line of phone, and Mozart is their only 3.7" screened WP7 device. And no one else has used a 3.8" SLCD either. That, and I'd expect it's not too far-fetched for the Trophy to be rocking normal TFT as it's the closest thing to an entry level device we have.

I wasn't talking about Picture Quality, the picture quality on the HD7 isn't as bad as the reviews and pictures make it out to be though, I was remarking on how the display seems evenly lit instead of having grey areas at the edges of the screen like regular TFT displays do on black backgrounds. That's why I mentioned LED backlighting.

I wasn't talking about Picture Quality, the picture quality on the HD7 isn't as bad as the reviews and pictures make it out to be though, I was remarking on how the display seems evenly lit instead of having grey areas at the edges of the screen like regular TFT displays do on black backgrounds. That's why I mentioned LED backlighting.

Is that a reliable means of determining whether the HD7 is led backlit though? My HD2 also appears to be evenly lit without light bleeding around the edges but I'm pretty sure it's not led backlit.

Probably not, but the reviews and pictures seem to show the screen at it's worst, low brightness or at some stupid extreme angle that no one would use it at anyway. Still you never know as has been mentioned before HTC have kept quiet on what display they used, so no one knows for sure. Even if the screen, and the rest of the hardware, is the same as the HD2s, the HD2 is a fantastic piece of kit anyway so it's not surprising that HTC went with the same type of hardware on the HD7.

How do you determine the PenTile matrix? I have just recently purchased my DVP and have started to see this mentioned a lot. I saw a grid like pattern behind the screen prior to reading this and wondered what it was. Sounds like this is the same thing?

I guess the easiest way for you to determine it would be, switch your theme colour ot Dark / Red and compare it with Dark / Blue.

If you observe very cloesly the edges of the Dark / Blue tiles on hte home screen, the edges will look very straight and flat - more or less.

Try to observe the same thing with Dark / Red however, and you'll notice that the edges are now more of a checkerboarded pattern if your screen has a PenTile matrix - they're no longer solid straight lines. It's much easier to tell if you also have a regular LCD screen next to you, but it gives a kind of additional grainy / loss of sharpness look to it.

Not sure what the DVP is meant to have though.

The brand name, "PenTile Matrix" (a neologism from penta-, meaning "five" and tile) was coined by inventor / entrepreneur Candice H. Brown Elliott in 1995 to describe the geometric layout of the prototypical subpixel arrangement that she developed in the early 1990s while conducting independent research on subpixel rendering. The layout consists of a quincunx comprising two red subpixels, two green subpixels, and one central blue subpixel in each unit cell. It was inspired by biomimicry of the human retina which has nearly equal numbers of L and M type cone cells, but significantly fewer S cones. As the S cones are primarily responsible for perceiving blue colors, which do not appreciably affect the perception of luminance, reducing the number of blue subpixels with respect to the red and green subpixels in a display does not reduce the image quality. This layout is specifically designed to work with and be dependent upon subpixel rendering that uses only one and a quarter subpixel per pixel, on average, to render an image. That is, that any given input pixel is mapped to either a red centered logical pixel, or a green centered logical pixel.

All apart from the Omnia 7 I think, and possibly the LG Optimus 7 - neither available in America :p No idea about the LG Quantumn though... I don't think anyone here even has one .___.

Optimus 7 has 16GB of NAND flash onboard. No MicroSD.
