Cannot hear certain people on XBOX Live Party Chat

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I decided to go on XBOX Live last night & use my headset to talk to my friend and on there and some guys he'd been talking to on their too. I found I could hear my friend, but the people who weren't my friends I couldn't hear.

I went onto the options and it said they were un-muted, but had little x's through the pictures by the side of the names. I heard them intermittently but it kept going quiet so I could hear nothing again. I tried muting and un-muting but it still didn't work. I've not changed any settings that I know of & it's been like this for a while but it's never been an issue until now.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

There's also the chance that they have you muted. Have you gone into any games yet? There are some that show you your NAT setting (open, mild, strict.) NAT can also prevent you from hearing other people as well.

My NAT setting is set to open. They also checked I wasn't muted and I wasn't. I can't hear anyone in any games even when I go online on my own so I'm stumped?!

You sure your mic wire isn't loose and cutting in and out? Also do you have voice chat turned off in settings? I mean I don't know what to say.

I do have problems with my mic but at the time this was happening I had no problem with the mic because I could hear my friend just not the other members of the party. I have a feeling it's to do with the privacy option DigitalE pointed out - as soon as I added these people I could hear them. I'll have a look on the settings and let you know!

it is the privacy options, it specifically asks you what level of privacy you want for both online status visibility and voice. i think even more options are available from Xbox.com than from the console, but i haven't checked those in a while so they could be the same now.

I had major issues with my voice abilities after going through the Dashboard Beta. It turned out to be that somehow my family settings got turned on and switched to "child mode" in which tons of things were restricted.

Check the online safety settings, that's where you'll find your solution.

There is also your console settings to adjust game sound and chat as well, could of been the chat has been put down to 0
