Error: 1782 Disk controller failure

a friend of mine is having computer trouble...

he turned on his PC and all he could get was Error: 1782 Disk controller failure

he suspects its a harddisk error, but he swaped his harddisk, but keeps getting the same problem...

anyone got a solution to end his pain? :o

I would also suggest making sure all the ribbions are connected correctly, make sure nothing is loose an also make sure you didn't break a pin off or something.

First thing i'll bring up is, is it a compaq??? If so good luck...

Next this problem is due to the IDE cable is not placed in the right slot and needs to be moved, shut off the computer take off all the cables, restart the computer with no cables for 3-4 seconds to clean the Bios of anything it had registred before shut back off the computer then plug the Ide cable into Slot 1 or slot 0 depending on the motherboard then plug it in the drive. Make sure on the drive that the pin is set to master and then it should boot normally if its not a compaq...

If by chance it is a compaq then scream and yell and then throw the computer into a pool.
