Dude, that's harsh :(

I'm not all about destruction. But for me, it's does add a whole new angle of gameplay. The ability to create and destroy cover as and when you need it is really handy.

It sounds like destroying cover will still be possible, you just won't be knocking over any skyscrapers.

EDIT: Also worth noting that the only source for this is the ign article, no where near official word from ea/dice... the only official word from ea has been "destruction 2.0 is not gone"

people need to stop flipping out at rumors :p. Also note that bf3 is still in an alpha.

I highly doubt bf3 will have less destruction than bc2.

I like collapsible houses in BC2 so I hope they'll make a return in BF3, but with some limitations depending on the map. For example, only allow some buildings to get brought down in Operation Metro so that the face of the map/gameplay isn't completely ruined (non collapsible houses could also work as a decent barrier between out of bounds and gameplay areas).

Agreed. It'd be silly if you could collapse every structure on a map. By the end of the game, the map would look like a levelled wasteland.

Battlefield 3 Battlelog revealed

After much talk about the new web-based Battlefield 3 service, Battlelog, DICE has finally revealed the first images of the new service, and it looks quite promising. Battlelog resembles a complete social network for Battlefield 3 players, with chat, profiles, news feed, forums etc. So far the service looks to be in alpha, and uses some Bad Company 2 icons and graphics as replacements. Here are a few more images of Battlelog:

:woot:

Damn, that Battlelog actually looks really cool. Right now I'm using Statsverse to keep track of everything in BC2, but having something that's integrated into the experience is definitely neat. The social networking stuff sounds interesting as well, and it totally makes sense for a game like this that plays so much better when you're in a squad with competent people.

Though I do see that your kill/death ratio and accuracy are both front and center on the page, which will be embarrassing for me  . At least score per minute is there as well, so I'll have one half-decent stat on my page.

Agreed. Smaller structures should be collapsible and larger structures like skyscrapers should have destructible elements (eg walls/windows) but not collapse. Removing destruction completely would be disappointing.

They are not going to remove destruction, simply SOME buildings won't be completely destructible to maintain a balanced gameplay, they already stated this in a podcast by Don't Revive Me Bro with Daniel Matros (zh1nt0).

Might not stay up for long. Click click click!

Whoever leaked those forgot to hide their username in one of the screenshots.

It's been awhile since I last logged into the Battlefield veteran site. :(

Also, I got the following message after attempting to log into the BF3 alpha site:

WE'RE SORRY - YOU DON'T MEET THE CRITERIA TO ENTER THIS SITE.

hmm that's a bummer... i'm a veteran etc didn't have newsletter though do now still there's nothing. ahwell.

specs look a bit interesting though...

- OS: Windows 7 or Vista (SP1)

- Installed: Origin

- CPU: Quadcore 2.0 GHz or faster

- RAM: 4 GB or more

- Hard Drive: 7.25 GB of free disk space

- Video: 512 MB or greater DirectX compatible 10 or 11 card with latest drivers (5.11 or later AMD, nVidia 275.33 or later)

- Sound: DirectX compatible 10 or 11 card

- Internet: broadband connection

good thing my upgrade well passes them.

The trees fall down too.... blandly... I hope they have some splintering and break offs to exploded trees.

Indeed, but it's a start. I like it a lot more than being able to toss 10 RPGs at a tree and have it still standing as with current games. All the sound effects are amazing though!

Damn, that footage looks amazing.

And my Veteran status is an 8, and it should be a 9 as for some reason even though I have all of the games down as owned it does not register all 9, abut I also do not get anything but the denial message when I try to enter that site, so not really sure how much Veteran status plays into it all. Oh well. The Alpha footage above looks sweet as all hell though.

Oh wait, my Veteran status is correct, I never noticed this little disclaimer until just now...

Your veteran rank is always the total number of highlighted BF games that add to your vet rank, minus one.

    • VidCoder 12.20 by Razvan Serea VidCoder is a DVD/Blu-ray ripping and video transcoding application for Windows. It uses HandBrake as its encoding engine. Calling directly into the HandBrake library gives it a more rich UI than the official HandBrake Windows GUI. VidCoder can rip DVDs but does not defeat the CSS encryption found in most commercial DVDs. You’ll need the NET 8 Desktop Runtime. If you don’t have it, VidCoder will prompt you to download and install it. The Portable version is self-contained and does not require any .NET Runtime to be installed. You do not need to install HandBrake for VidCoder to work. Feature list: Multi-threaded MP4, MKV containers Completely integrated encoding pipeline: everything is in one process and no huge intermediate temporary files H.264, H.265, MPEG-4, MPEG-2, VP8, Theora video Hardware-accelerated encoding with AMD VCE, Nvidia NVENC and Intel QuickSync AAC, MP3, Vorbis, AC3, FLAC audio encoding and AAC/AC3/MP3/DTS/DTS-HD passthrough Target bitrate, size or quality for video 2-pass encoding Decomb, detelecine, deinterlace, rotate, reflect, chroma smooth, colorspace filters Powerful batch encoding with simultaneous encodes Customizable Pickers to automatically pick audio and subtitle tracks, destination, titles and more Instant source previews Creates small encoded preview clips Pause, resume encoding VidCoder 12.20 changes: Updated HandBrake core to 1.11.2. • Too soon, I'm still not over this death!
    • Normally, I admit when a title is clickbait (unfortunately, it's become somewhat necessary to compete against AI-dominated news sections today), but in this case, all supported versions is implied and doesn't need to be spelled out in the title. Of course, I'm covering a Patch Tuesday update bug that is only available to supported Windows SKUs. All our coverage relates to supported Windows software and SKUs only unless we expressly state that it's "unsupported", "unofficial", or "third-party". I'm sorry, but supported/official SKUs don't need to be spelled out as such in every Neowin headline.
