Origin really isn't that bad...

IMO the lighting/shadows is all around far better, especially in the subway... The sunrays are really nice too. Another great touch is the suppression effects. Water is a lot nicer too (but its still way to static, like all the other bf games.)

And dude its an alpha. When I think of alpha software, Polished certainly shouldn't come to mind. Play it for what it is.... I think its pretty polished for an alpha, I've played games in much rougher shape (like the natural selection 2 alpha)

Well, once again I'd love to play it, but I find a fast-paced FPS hard to play when I can't achieve 60+ at all times. FPS dips are very detrimental to the experience. As long as it runs properly I'll put all of my other qualms aside.

You can't change your hotkeys/sensitivity/sound in-game yet... super hard to play haha :(

The beta nvidia drivers: http://www.nvidia.com/object/win7-winvista-64bit-280.19-beta-driver.html

I don't see any mention of BF3 though :(

Taken from http://www.geforce.com/News/articles/nvidia-geforce-280-beta-driver-released

Though not mentioned in our release notes, we recommend that NVIDIA GPU users testing the Battlefield 3 Alpha download the 280.19 beta drivers to help eliminate any in-game glitches they are experiencing.

I used an AutoHotkey script to remap my keys. Works pretty well. The mouse sensitivity I can live with. As for the sound, I think it sounds pretty damn amazing. I love how it has depth to it.

There is a config file in AppData though ;)

Yeah I figured I could dig into the config files, but I didn't have a chance since I was just toying around at midnight, I'll give that a shot tonight. The sound is indeed amazing, but I had to turn my speakers way down, as it seemed a little loud by default.

The other thing that REALLY REALLY bothers me is the terrible ordering of your inventory.

I mostly played assault but it's...

Assault Rifle

Pistol

Paddles

Grenade

Knife

I'm still pretty new to it and haven't unlocked anything, but I think there is room for even more gadgets inbetween. Having the knife so far away from the main weapons is quite inconvenient, especially since I'm a mouse-wheeler. I should get back into number switching.

Just got myself an invitation to the alpha. I live in Asia, received "you don't meet the criteria to enter this site" error before and only bought battlefield bad company 2

but not medal of honor. So far ea origin doesn't impress me. The download speed is so freaking slow compared to steam.

Damn okay, ending August 1st means I definitely need to squeeze in some time sooner than later to check it out. And I am slightly concerned about the fact that even though they recommend the Beta drivers, there is no mention of SLi. I do know how to force SLi if needed, but it is not the best solution for it. I have a feeling tonight I may spend more time actually getting it to run decently than checking it out, one of the not so fun parts (but what allows for more power and customization) of PC gaming.

How can i get an invite ?

Also Paddles normally have to be unlocked.

Ugh, all my gaming friends got in (and some of them have never even played a BF game) and I'm sitting here alone and sad.

I'm refreshing my email every 3 minutes lol

as far as i know all you have to do is signup for that newsletter on the battlefield 3 site and make sure you get an e-mail confirmation , check your vet status and sign up at the alpha site and it should give you a key. thats how i got mine anyway no waiting or anything.

At least I'm not a lone on this...My boss is making fun of me for how often I'm checking my email.

I've been signed up for the newsletter forever, and got the email confirmation at the time of sign up. My vet status is vet 7 (which is up from 6 from earlier today, not sure why though)

Do the steps I outlined in the thread earlier and you should get in mate.

Yeah, I'm still waiting on an invite. No biggie, it only runs until August 1st anyway right?

I downloaded the Origin client and tried to create a new account but it comes up with a page load error try again later, may be experiencing high load etc. after I pass the DOB and country page.

Can someone confirm if that error happens to them too?

It's been like that for 3 days for me.

thanks

I got into the Alpha beta, coming from a hardcore veteran COD player to BF3 it seems to be very tactical, which is a good thing. I'm enjoying the quick kills and the fast action gameplay in RUSH. Really good first impressions for me. As for the Beta itself, there are a few graphical issues and bugs here and there, nothing too bad. Feel free to add me AP707, I'm not the best player lol, too used to my console controllers :x

    • Windows 11 KB5094126, KB5093998 bugging out Office apps but it may not be Microsoft's fault by Sayan Sen Microsoft last week released Windows 11 KB5094126 and KB5093998 as the latest Patch Tuesday updates. Following that the company also published the accompanying dynamic updates under KB5094149, KB5095971, and KB5094156. Although the tech giant did not acknowledge any major problems, some users online reported various issues ranging from OneDrive and Dropbox access problems, BitLocker recovery lockouts, to blue screens and BSODs. You can read about them in this dedicated piece. While there is still no confirmation about those problems from Microsoft the company has admitted to another bug which we did not report on. The tech giant has confirmed it has received reports of an issue in which certain third-party applications may be unable to launch Microsoft Office apps or open Office documents after installing the Patch Tuesday. This affects both Windows 11 as well as Windows 10. The company says the problem impacts a subset of applications that rely on OLE (Object Linking and Embedding) automation to communicate with Microsoft Office programs. According to Microsoft, affected scenarios involve third-party software attempting to open Office applications or documents from within their own interface. In such cases, the Office program may fail to launch altogether, or the requested document may not open. Oddly there may not be any error message, which probably makes the issue difficult to diagnose. The bug affects several Office products, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and other apps in the Microsoft Office suite when they are launched through the affected software. These include tax and accounting software such as CCH Engagement and Workpaper Manager, dental practice management solutions like Dentrix and Softdent, as well as the popular research and reference management tool Zotero. Microsoft adds that other applications using similar Office integration methods could also experience the same problematic behavior. To understand the issue it is important to look at OLE, the Microsoft technology involved. OLE allows different applications to work together and share data, while its Automation feature lets one program control another. Thus this enables third-party software to launch Microsoft Office apps, open documents, and perform tasks automatically without requiring users to switch between programs. Because many accounting, healthcare, research, and business applications rely on OLE automation to interact with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other Office apps, any disruption can break those workflows. As a result, affected software may be unable to open Office documents or launch Office applications even though the programs themselves continue to work normally. At the moment the company has not provided a permanent fix though it has confirmed that engineers are actively working on a resolution, which will be delivered through a future Windows update. As such additional details will be shared once more information becomes available. In the meantime, Microsoft recommends a simple workaround for affected users whic is to open the Office application or document directly rather than launching it through the third-party program. For enterprise customers and organizations managing larger deployments, Microsoft says an additional mitigation is available. Admins experiencing the problem on their managed devices are advised to contact Microsoft Support for business to obtain and apply the workaround.
