So I got BF3 working with overlay, in Steam.

Despite the web interface, the Origin client, and EA's hatred for Steam -- All you need to do is add Origin as a Non-steam game and launch from there.

I beat the system :D

It was because of Steam's hatred for the EA's update manager, and that solution of yours was suggested for Origin haters from day 1.

Switching to medium gives me low-mid 30 fps in full screen (so about 7-10fps increase over "auto"), at least it was mostly playable like that. How are you able to tell if a game is making use of SLI? I am guess mine still is not :(

The quickest way to verify SLi is working is through an option in the Nvidia drivers themself.

Click SLi on the left hand side sub navigation menu, once you do that on the top menu you will then see an option that says 3D settings or something along those lines (I am going off of memory here, pretty sure it is the 2nd option from the right), and just choose "show sli visual indicator."

If you do that, if SLi is working you will know it.

Seriously though I only laugh because what it does is put a big bar on the left hand side of the screen with the SLi logo at the top, and the green bar that moves up and down from the center is showing you the percentage of each card that is being used together, that is why it comes out from the center, top from the center is card 1, bottom from the center is card 2.

Here, I found a screen shot of the bar in action.

And here are screens and instructions of the directions I gave above.

Thanks Larry :D I didn't realize they hid a couple extra settings up there :p

Edit: weird....so after I enabled the visualizer, magically now it is getting mid 50s fps in full screen (medium setting), sometimes getting into mid 60s outdoors. And it did look like it was using SLI according to the bar (and fps)... really odd (but also good :D)

No problem. I did not know for the longest time it was there either.

And no doubt, they somehow enabled SLi during this Alpha after the Beta drivers were released. Had to have been client side.

Not sure what they have done on their end, but I decided to try full screen again, and at 1920 x 1080, Fullscreen, Auto settings, I am now getting anywhere between 55-80 FPS!!

EDIT - It is actually Low settings on my system, not Auto. Still looks fine to me though.

It is SO, SO MUCH better being able to play the game at full screen with a good FPS. It literally makes the difference between night and day for me, did not even realize how important it really was. Got my K/D Ratio from a .7 to a 1.1 thanks to full screen, so it really does make a huge difference.

Very happy to see this increase in performance. The only time it dips really low is when there is a lot of effects on screen, such as smoke, explosions, etc. It now has me fairly confident my 2 460's may be able to handle the final retail release afterall. Good thing I saw this, as I was highly contemplating picking this up today. The card is $45.00 EVGA's price, and through the end of today, you can get a $25 MIR making it $299.

Me. And with a Q9550, the game is running amazingly smooth (stays above 60FPS in the first park area and above 80FPS in the metro tunnel) on high on 1920x1020.

How you manage that cause i have Core i5 2400 and 5850 Twin Frozr II which is overclocked and i get FPS dips and slowdowns in the park area.

Just curious, I looked a few pages back but haven't found anything concrete, how did some of you people got into the Alpha, just like that with random emails from EA? I know it ends tomorrow/tonight I just want to know how my dated PC would handle it, after reading some replies here I feel it will do better than I thought :p

There is no concrete way of getting into the Alpha, it was random.

Thought so :( Oh well, given all prior major BF releases there will be a demo at some point^^

I just wonder why so few companies release performance demos like for example Square Enix did with FF XIV, that way people could know beforehand if they need to upgrade (not that I will upgrade either way, I don't plan spending anything for my PC for a long time, especially not a single game, it's just my curiosity)

Those dips are probably because of poor system management (how large of "dips" are we talking about here?). I keep my Windows clean and defrag my HDDs on weekly basis.

I also always mod the latest official drivers (now running 11.7) with this which helps a bit (and when I say a bit, I mean really tiny amount of FPS gain).

I dunno what to do about this game.

All the rounds ive played over past week have been so hit and miss its not even funny, making a game so dependant on the people you have in your team is fine in theory but when you have a team full of idiots it can really make you rage how unfairly biased the game is, i had enough of that with BC2. I also dont like having to unlock sights for every single weapon, there is a military standard in sights so they fit on picatinny rails there is no reason why i should have to unlock a red dot specifically for each weapon.

I dont hate it but i dont love it the newness has worn off now, do i cancel my pre-order or not :|

Just had a few good rounds with SMELTN on the opposite team, and I swear he killed me all 10 times.

haha sorry. I tried to get on your team but no way to do that really yet. :p

You know I agree with you on, unlocking certain things that work for all weapons. Like red dots, or better barrels, etc. When I seen Red dot unlock come up, I was so excited to use it as Assault, but then when I went in to customize my kit to use it, it wasn't available as Assault, only as Engineer I think, I was like WTF!!

On one end, I guess it gives you a reason to play ALL classes, so you can unlock everything.

While I am really liking what they have done, I think the release time of this game makes it a no go for me because I have already pre-ordered SWTOR and sorry but SWTOR > BF3 for me.

    • Really? Despite the memory price rises, nothing can kill it? I thought something would.
    • I think there will be a 27H1 for actual users of 26H1 The 25h2 supports ARM too : Snapdragon X, Snapdragon X Plus and Snapdragon X Elite
    • Poll: Grand Theft Auto VI price predictions, cast your vote by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe After years of waiting, Rockstar will be solidifying the launch date of Grand Theft Auto VI with the launch of pre-orders next week. While the studio has confirmed a date for this occasion, it is yet to attach a price to the highly anticipated game. So let's see what our readers think it will cost at launch. The Grand Theft Auto VI pre-orders will kick off on June 25 for digital and physical editions. Unless some last-minute changes happen, the release date will be November 19, 2026, across Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5. Unfortunately, there's still no information about a PC version from the developer or the publisher Take-Two. Now the question becomes, how much will Grand Theft Auto VI cost at launch? The game is predicted by some analysts to be the biggest launch of an entertainment product ever. With the amount of hype that has been built behind it and with ballooning development costs, Take-Two may price this Grand Theft Auto entry differently from other AAA titles. The current price of a AAA game is $69.99. That norm almost rose to $79.99 before calming down. But with such a massive release, Grand Theft Auto VI may be the game that pushes the boundary again. It's also possible that Take-Two keeps the price relatively low to increase the number of players that jump in early and keep them hooked on Grand Theft Auto Online to spend on microtransactions for years to come. Keep in mind that the below poll is asking for a prediction of the standard edition price, not a deluxe or any other special edition that Take-Two will introduce for additional benefits. Also, there is the chance of the company splitting up the campaign and online portions. If you think that will happen, put your vote on what you think will be the total cost of the two.
