samsung Galaxy S rom update problem

Everytime i connect my missus phone to kies on my PC it says there is an update, but everytime the update downloads it says there has been an error and it just asked to either cancel or retry, and if i retry the same thing happens, is there anyway to get the update without kies?

handset is unlocked via the XDA Devs unlock tool

Yep, there's a program called Odin that does it.

If Odin doesn't do it for you I had a similar problem and I had to leave the phone connected to the PC and take the phone out of Kies mode, iirc pressing the middle button and ending all running tasks.

I think the problem was the phone was also running some kind of mass storage thing in the background which was causing it to error, I've not since had the problem after updating to 2.2 so the update to 2.2.1 was easy.

well ive taken the SD card out of the phone to see if thats helps :s

ive give it another go and see if that helps

well removing the SD card worked lol of all things, firmware just completed and the phones rebooting as i type
