All they did was remove the somewhat pointless dialog that asked you every time you quit, likely because very few people ever chose a different option on it each time.

Anyway, it seems n_K is asking to remove that ability entirely, which is silly. Would private browsing mode perhaps be appropriate?

People understand the this option in general is NOT what i want and is NOT the same.I don't want to ALWAYS restore my tabs from last session,i want to SOMETIMES restore them.For example: If i have 5 tabs open in the evening and i close the browser and go to sleep on the next morning i DON'T want those tabs anymore,but with the option in general i don't have a choice and i either have to close all but one tabs before i close the browser or close the tabs i don't want anymore when i start the browser.That is why i like to be able to to chose IF i want those tabs for the next session or not.And those that want the behavior you suggested can always just put a check in the prompt to never show up again and everyone is happy.

You also have to edit AERO.THEME afterwards, so it looks like this:

Just to be clear, its not required that you rename the folder of the theme to Aero. You can keep the actual Aero, no renaming required.

So for exemple, C:\Windows\Resources\Themes\clsSharp\aero.msstyles works after editing the clsSharp.theme file with > Path=%SystemRoot%\Resources\Themes\clsSharp\aero.msstyles

I think all Firefox requires is that the *.msstyles file be called aero (and obviously the *.theme file be edited to reflect this), everything else can stay the same.

I renamed the Dream VS to Aero. I chose it because it has strong font shadowing.

The first snip shows the main menu of Fx 20110522 Firefox/6.0a1 with HW accel off. It renders exactly like default Aero with the blue and shadows intact but retains the hover effect from Dream. The second snip is Fx context with HW accel off. The third snip is Fx context with HW accel on. The fourth snip is the Google Chrome 13.0.767.1 context menu. It renders exactly like the desktop right-click menu with the font shadowing displayed correctly. The last snip is IE9. This is the text zoomed in:

Zoomed in, DirectWrite looks really mangled. I've been using Firefox nightlies since GPU acceleration started and have grown accustomed to it. There have been gradual improvements and for my GPU and monitor I prefer DX10 rendering.

I'm trying to decide if I should try out 5.0 beta, or just jump to 6.0 alpha/nightly? I really want the new smooth animation for moving tabs, which I understand is only in 6.0 for now. Is there any real reason I shouldn't install 5.0? Do I just install it ontop of 4.01, or will it install into its own directory? As long as my extensions will work, the performance improvements should make it worth it. Will they work? Someone mentioned a lot of crashing with Flash 10.3, so that could be a dealbreaker. Anyone else experiencing that?

Sounds like you're a good candidate for the Aurora channel, it'll have Fx6 on it very soon.

Looks like the third one (Fx context HWA on) is using greyscale antialiasing, which is messing it up. It's supposed to look like the IE9 screenshot.

Checked on my Fx5, it looks correct to me (like IE9).

Firefox custom draws it's menus, IE doesn't (and hence uses GDI regardless of the page content).

I assume the bug is down to how the visual style (or theme system) reports details of the menu theme, Firefox marks it as opaque or transparent based on what the theme/engine says (opaque content always gets sub-pixel AA, transparent content doesn't)

Yes, with "real" Aero and not Dream renamed Aero it looks identical on nightly 052311 and IE9 also.

It's not silly, I only want to save what tabs I had open and the session cookie information if I choose to save it, do you think it's at all secure to allow anyone to open up your browser and force a reload of sites you were on AND session cookies for those sites that by the RFC standard and common sense should have expired?

It's the ****ing stupidest 'feature' I've ever seen in firefox, and it's so daft I'm tempted to get a different web browser before they manage to create yet another ginormous security cockup.

Just tried it, if I save my session or not when quitting, if I click 'restore previous session' then it restores it in full, both times.

But the Firefox Quit dialogue could be turned off.So people which use the restore tabs from last session option can just put a thick at "do not ask next time",and the others(like me)still have the option to save only when we want.This way both sides are happy.Why would you enforce something to the one or the other side when both sides can have it like they want to?

I like the feature of that, from 3.6 and before where you can choose to save your tabs and session data, now it doesn't matter what you pick and the lump of **** will save it reguardless and allow anyone to open it by clicking that stupid 'restore previous session' button.

Thanks for posting this. I got the renaming to work with the extra instructions. It has fixed the menu font and shadow but the context menu and certain website content are experiencing the same font issues as verified by your screens.

If I choose to close firefox and save my tabs, I wish the session data to be saved, if not though, I would expect it to be deleted but it's not, so whenever and however firefox is launched, the previous sessions' tabs can be restored with FULL cookie session information.

So e.g. if you were signed into a bank, closed and didn't save your tabs when exiting and someone opened it 3 minutes later and restored your session, they WOULD be logged in to your bank account on the page you left it from (assuming you didn't log out) and would have full access to it.

If that were a risk to you, couldn't you set Fx to remove cookies each time you close it? The option is there.

(I would be surprised if bank websites worked that way though, and I suspect choosing not to 'show tabs from last time' probably never gave you this kind of protection)

Setting browser.sessionstore.privacy_level_deferred to 2 should prevent any session data being saved when just exiting Firefox regardless of the "Show my windows and tabs from last time" option.

They have a session cookie that changes about every 5 minutes or so, hence why I mentioned 3 minutes, and it would work, well, it works with mine anyway.

I'm loving the Fx 5.0 beta so far, its much more responsive compared to 4.0.

It seems more refined and polished compared to 4.0. I'm seriously considering making the beta my main browser.

But not much has changed in 5.0, its mainly under the hood improvements, I wonder why they numbered it 5.0.

Really, there aren't any conditions set in stone about when a version should change by 1, 0.1, or 0.01 increments. I'd say it's the maker's prerogative and leave it at that.

Anyone know if there are plans to drop whatever changes they made to the font system (it's in Aurora and Nightly) into Fx 5.0, or is it strictly for 6.0? I'd hope not as fonts look much better on Aurora/Nightly on my system and it's making me puzzled as to why the changes haven't hit beta. I've seen absolutely no downside to the changes and with the reception Fx 4.0 received with it's blurry font mess if I were Mozilla I'd be pushing these changes into every build possible, even stable! :laugh:

I'd love to just drop back to the beta channel as I can't be bothered with the addon hassles running Aurora/Nightly, but I simply cannot revert from these font changes, it's impossible for my eyes. I've just there cut back from Nightly to Aurora, as Aurora hit 6.0a2, and now has the font fixes.

Well I may be naive and incorrect, but I assumed patches issued to Aurora/Nightly CAN make there way into the stable/beta builds if they are deemed fit? Either way even if I'm completely wrong I still can't understand not trying to get this patch into the more stable channels well before Firefox 6.
