Sir Topham Hatt
Following on from another discussion. . . There seems to be a fair bit of controversy about the .xxx domain levels. I personally think it would be a good idea, but one rule I would put with it is that any adult site such as girls.com would automatically get girls.xxx as their domain name. This would then be fair. I don't understand why some people are against this?

Nick H. Supervisor Posted March 11, 2011 Supervisor Share Posted March 11, 2011 I don't get why people are for or against this. How does it affect us in any way?
Bamsebjørn
It would take away the fun of accidentally stumbling upon a porn site while innocently looking for images of big melons. :shifty:
remixedcat
It would be easier for admins to block porn sites. this is why they want it. plus it opens up new domains for existing sites.... neowin.xxx yeah baby!!!!!
Calum Veteran Posted March 11, 2011 Veteran Share Posted March 11, 2011 It makes sense to me. It would be easier for admins to block access to these websites, and it places them all in one nice category. I can only think the reason so many Christians (and some other religious people) are against this is for the same reason they're against porn in general?because they believe it is immoral, unfortunately  If that is the case, they need to realise porn will not go away; moreover, this would probably be better for them because it bunches all of the porn websites into one domain, which means it's easier for people to remove porn from their lives. If there are other reasons they are against it, I'd like to hear them.

I do this whenever a girl says she is fat, but obviously isn't. They soon change their minds!

Growled Member Posted March 11, 2011 Member Share Posted March 11, 2011 I really don't care, TBH. I really don't see what all the fuss is about.
nabz0r Veteran Posted March 11, 2011 Veteran Share Posted March 11, 2011 I actually don't care. But as some of you already mentioned it would be for easier for admins to block the sites. That might be good for some because it would be easier to remember the site name. :D
Rudy
I voted Yes but there's a HUGE butt to my vote. My vote only stands as long as there's no restriction for adult sites to keep using .com names.
Detection
Doubt it would be enforced, as kids could very easily type .xxx after any name and be sure to find a porn site, yes I know its easy already with google etc, but that would be making it easier
ThaCrip
obviously the .xxx is a good idea to protect kids. because then a parent could just filter out all .xxx instead of worrying about every little .com which is damn near impossible to do. Aethec
obviously the .xxx is a good idea to protect kids. Protect kids? When was the last time you went to a porn website without wanting it (with SafeSearch on, obviously)? What parents need to do is to talk to their kids about it - explain why porn != real life, why safe sex is important, why they shouldn't believe everything said on the Internet about sex, and so on. Parental controls are not a replacement for parents, and their only effect is to boost the kids' motivation to find porn - either by trying to bypass the filter or by going to a friend's place where there is no parental control. That would require thought and effort, and most people don't like that nowadays. On topic, it doesn't bother me. It could be fun to .xxx into Google and see what pops up, might learn about some new and bizarre fetish :p
Avalanche
The problem is that there are millions of porn sites in different tld. The .com is not the only one used! Who gets the right to girls.xxx when you have girls.net, girls.us, girls.co.uk, girls.fr, etc, etc, etc. That alone won't be possible. By the same logic every social site should have a tld so it's easilly blocked for work and < 13 year old children ...
Ryster
I voted Yes but there's a HUGE butt to my vote. My vote only stands as long as there's no restriction for adult sites to keep using .com names. You have a HUGE butt? Seriously though, what point would that be? Allowing porn sites to continue to use .com and others would 100% eliminate the main positive aspect of the .xxx domain, to keep them all in one place and make them easily blockable (or findable, depending on your perspective). LittleNeutrino Veteran Posted March 14, 2011 Veteran Share Posted March 14, 2011 I say YES, as well as make it a requirement. This way it can be easily blocked or monitored for whatever reasons you might have to do so. School, work, child safety.. etc...
